I've just heard on the news that we are getting a four day Bank Holiday in honour of HRH's Platinum Jubilee.

I vague remember her Silver one. I must have been about 5 or 6. All the street parties. My mom made me a red, white and blue dress. And my dad, ever the perfectionist, made me a stunning replica crown.

Totally ignore the above.......too much sun, should have been talking about shoes!

I recall many years ago going to Wimbledon straight from work to meet my flat mates. Having stayed to the bitter end, there were hoards of crowds waiting for public transport, so we decided to walk “across country”. Shortly into this journey, and for no apparent reason, the heel came off my shoe. We had no idea where we were and could not see any signs of public transport. I tried to rip the heel off the other shoe, but it wouldn’t budge, the only option was to limp the rest of to way, the barefoot option being the alternative. I think we arrived back way after midnight!

Found some on Amazon, called high heel protectors. I didn’t get them there, I can’t remember where I got them from to be honest.

You can buy little clear plastic things (don’t remember their name) that you put on the end of the heel on your shoe. They prevent you from sinking into the lawn. I got some for my daughter’s wedding after I kept sinking into the grass at my son’s wedding.

Yes Smileless definitely platform soles for a garden party unless you are one of those tall willowy types who look great in trainers with a summery dress.

Been off line for a few days and just found this thread which I've read from the beginning and am thoroughly enjoying so thank you Fanny for starting it.

If we'd had a daughter I'd have chosen Josephine, my all time favourite girl's name which was also my mum's middle name.

If I were fortunate enough to be invited to a garden party at Buck house, my biggest worry would be whether or not to wear heels. Always feel more elegant in heels but wouldn't want to sink into the lawn.

I loved Noel Streatfield's books, Fanny Cornforth. Used to feel a bit sorry for Pauline though. Petrova and Posy definitely got the more exciting names.

Thanks to this thread, I dreamt I was at a Royal tea party last night.

There was not much to eat on my table and I had to go round scavenging from others.

I will try to think of other ways of addressing you guys (there, I did it! Never again).

I knew that I read all of Streatfield's books, but I can't remember a thing about them apart from the names, many of which I couldn't pronounce, Horatio comes to mind.
I pronounced it 'Horry at ee oh' in my head

If we'd had another daughter she would have been named Mary Florence. It took me many many years to quite come to terms with knowing that my fourth baby was my last: Mary Florence was the potential baby that was somewhere near but never a reality. It was very strange.....

Another here who dislikes being called a guy, it’s a phase, it will pass - I hope. Mr C shudders when he hears it as I have been known to object out loud, just sometimes when I’m really grumpy you understand. Keep chatting fannyc, why not? .

I've always loved Imogen.
When I was a little girl I wanted two daughters called Imogen and Ursula.
I think that I may have been influenced by the books of Noel Streatfield.

We say "folks" a lot in London.

Anyway back to names. Mine and my daughters were already mentioned x 3 n yesterday's offerings.

Personally I might choose Imogen or Isabella.
