I thought we’d settled on Sue for the baby’s name?

I know Royal events have to be planned well in advance, but it worries me when the Queen is now 95 and they arrange things as if she will be here forever.

She must think “Crikey, I’ve got to keep soldiering on, it’s already in the diary!”

I'm not sure 70 is that special a number, is it? I assume the extra day will be in half term anyway.

Blossoming, do go to a Palace Garden party if you get the chance. You will never stand in a better dressed queue, and the whole thing is people watching paradise. Our first one was so long ago that I remember so envying Princess Diana’s bare legs while I sweltered in tights, and it was so hot that one of the Yeoman Warders, clad in scarlet wool, fainted. Out of the crowd came various doctors to assist and I treasure the memory of the one trying to unbutton his collar saying to a colleague “Actually, I’m an obstetrician”!

Calendargirl my mum is 93 and still plans ahead! She says she got lots she still wants to be a part of.

We got married in Silver Jubilee year and lost count of the number of commemorative teatowels, dishes, cups, spoons and ashtrays we were given. Nearly all from the (to us) old folk on our coach trip to Llandudno, when they found out we were honeymooners. I'm sure I've still got a couple of those teatowels somewhere.

Blossoming that indeed is a worrying thought! Let us hope that heels nowadays are more reliable than they were in the 1960s, one would hate to be guilty of lese majesty.

Do you know what you were wearing?

In my dream, the party as indoors with hundreds of people seated at trestle tables. For some reason my table only had two plates of sandwiches, whilst the others had laden tables, particularly with the bright pink trifle? I don’t know what I was wearing.

In real life, I wore my wedges to a Palace garden party. They had peep toes (acceptable) not open toes or sling backs
(unacceptable).

If I was invited to a Palace garden party, I’d buy a new outfit, only ever did that for one wedding and three funerals. The funerals, I wore the same frock as they were spread north to south ( so I didn’t feel insensitive wearing the same funeral frock)

I’d enjoy choosing something special (I may not even care if I couldn’t re-wear it)
I’m tall and loathe heels. Partly due to the ‘long tall sally’ comments when I was 13, yes I know, get over it. My current plan is a long frock, cosy flats that incorporate my orthotics, as I’ll be standing much of the day.
I know, it’s not allowed but I’d love to take my enormous 7month old lab. I’m sure he’s born for palaces and if Princess Ann was around I know she’d see his potential ??

Didn’t I hear once that at certain receptions people were warned what colour the Queen would be wearing and that you shouldn’t or was I dreaming? I’d wear a light blue frock but I am not fond of hats nor heels.

i think that colour dictat only applies to other bigwigs.

Florals are pretty, but block colours are more elegant. I'm not a hat person, but I like heels.

The palace never discusses what the queen will be wearing. That was made clear after Margaret Thatcher was said to have contacted the palace before a function to ask what colour the queen would be wearing so that the wouldn't clash....She was told in no uncertain terms that the Queen never notices what others are wearing!

I am concerned now about dressing for our Royal garden party.

I find it difficult enough to dress for special occasions as it is, without all of the royal rules and regulations.
Footwear is a constant issue...
