Well this morning at 4 am I heard the familiar squeak squeak of a baby seagull I thought oh dear a baby s on the flat roof again, I hope the mum knows and I went back to sleep when I got up at 7 I could still hear a muffled squeak and opened the chimney trap door and could see a very very young seagull on the little ledge above… so arm in and popped her out into the bedroom Shes much smaller than Stephen and I was really worried she wouldn’t be old enough to feed herself I put her in the garden with some sardines and water and mum was circling around above screening at me I was hoping she’d come down and get her or at least feed her
When I came back from work just now she was making a big old racket and all the sardines had gone so I thought either mums been down or she is able to feed herself
I put some more water and sardines out and waited… she was making a lot of noise, suddenly it went quiet I had a peep and she was eating away at the sardines
With a bit of luck she ll stay with me and the sardines until she can fly away in about 8 weeks time
Anyway meet Sybil
Could it be Stephens offspring ?

Well I ve got to tell you I have Einstein for a baby gull
We are having a monsoon, parts of my garden have been under 2 inches of water I have come home to no signs of Sybil I put my waterproof coat and boots on and have scoured ever bit of my garden without a sight of her but not a dead body either After 15 minutes I ve given up and come in and who should greet me in the conservatory ….drumroll….yes Sybil how she slipped in without me seeing her I do not know

She’s now having lunch I ll let her out when the monsoon stops
She is one plucky lady (if she is a lady) and deserves to live

Aah bless her!
When I read that post I must admit that I feared the worse
Well done BlueBelle

FannyCornforth Fri 18-Jun-21 12:38:55

That photo! ?

Nicegranny Fri 18-Jun-21 13:18:54

This is great reading so thank you bluebell ?

LauraNorder Fri 18-Jun-21 13:24:18

Sybil is one lucky little gull

Gingster Fri 18-Jun-21 13:37:52

Creatures are so clever. Sybil knows where her bread is buttered (or her pilchards ) . ♥️.

JaneJudge Fri 18-Jun-21 13:39:07

It does make you wonder if Mummy Seagull is encouraging this chimney diving behaviour so she can get a bit of respite

BlueBelle Fri 18-Jun-21 14:00:23

Haha janejudge I never thought of that
As seagulls usually lay 3 eggs the mum is probably up there with another two teenagers so probably gritting her teeth to keep the other two in that little nestl
Perhaps Sybil did get kicked out by one of her brothers / sisters
I must try and catch a video she was trying to fly this morning they look so funny just jump up and down on the spot, wings going 90 to the dozen but nothing happens it’s really entertaining

Aldom Fri 18-Jun-21 14:11:38

Another great photo. It's pouring with rain here too. So clever of Sybil /Cyril?? to go into the conservatory. S/he is quite unafraid. You are clearly giving the right food if s/he is strong enough to be trying out her/his wings.

SueDonim Fri 18-Jun-21 15:11:50

Clever seagull! Maybe this one wants to be a house pet. grin

Callistemon Fri 18-Jun-21 17:01:59

Another lovely photo Bluebelle, thank you.
Gulls are clever; they always know who is carrying the tastiest crab sandwiches and best icecreams.

Well Sybil has weathered ( excuse the pun) a night shut in and although it’s dull and inclined to showers I think the torrents and the wind has eased down so she’s better off out side where she can hear the other birds and wander around in the greenery She ate up her breakfast had a drink then did her mornings ablutions in the drinking bowl She’s all fresh for the day
If you get bored with these pics and updates just say
In the last picture she’s saying good morning to you all

She's a real fluff-ball!

This is my favourite thread of all time on Gransnet. So heartwarming.

I seriously think there's a book in it, and such delightful photos. I think you are not far from me, in Lowestoft or Great Yarmouth? Those resorts sadly aren't doing that well at present. Imagine if everyone came to visit, to see the home of that famous Stephen and Sybil. Stranger things have happened.

Aldom Sat 19-Jun-21 08:15:46

Good morning Sybil. smile

Are you joking?! They're the highlight of my day! Sybil is on (p)lucky little seagull. Well done, BlueBelle!

Highlight, too, for two small boys in Australia eagerly awaiting your latest pictures!

I must have missed the Stephen story ,which I would have loved had I seen it. Keep posting tho as it’s just lovely seeing the progress of Sybil.

Aldom Sun 20-Jun-21 09:28:15

Good morning Sybil. How are you today? Ask your 'mum' to send us another photo please. smile

Callistemon Sun 20-Jun-21 09:47:43

I hope Sybil is doing well

SueDonim Sun 20-Jun-21 12:26:17

The photos are lovely. The one of her standing in the water bowl made me laugh. I don’t think I’ll be bored of them any time soon! ❤️

Ro60 Sun 20-Jun-21 23:23:46

Just checking in to see Sybil & best regards Bluebelle ?

BlueBelle Mon 21-Jun-21 03:27:19

Good morning everyone Sybil seems to still be doing well she eats about 7am 1pm and 7 pm she’s doesn’t come when I cluck like Stephen used to do but it’s early days yet and she usually seems to find the food soon after I put it out She sometimes eats in small bits and comes back to it later Stephen used to gobble the whole lot down but she could be younger She does drink from the water bowl, then I don’t see much of her as she goes in the greenery
Mum still watches from three storey up when I go out and squarks but has made no attempt to come down not even onto the flat roof
Here’s Sybil yesterday
Is she growing I think she looks bigger?
