Re art Gingster, thank you but I always say I had no choice but to be an artist. When I was a small child my mum used to shoo me out of the kitchen and say, 'Go and paint with your father.' Hence, probably, my inability to cook and utter dislike of kitchens. My first memories are of being in a large cardboard box in dad's studio (makeshift playpen) and the smell of turps. All very bizarre, looking back.

Good Morning Friday
(54 Posts)Good Morning Everyone,
Its a grey ,wet and miserable start here in Brackley this morning.
Today a small early shop , before having a coffee mid morning , basically a quiet day .
Looking ahead to watching the Tour De France on TV from tomorrow .
Take Care,
Mick
Good morning all. I’ve joined you early birders today, having woken up at 6.25 am. I tried to persuade myself that I could catch another hour to no avail but after taking photos of the sun streaking across the valley, have given in and brought tea back to bed for both of us only to find DH had dozed off again.
I hope your parents are feeling better now Dwmxwg, it must have been such a shock for the whole family. It’s always after the event that the scary alternatives occur to us.
Enjoy your trip Marydoll, it does sound wonderful. A few years ago whilst visiting my sister in law in Staines we all got up early to see one of the big steam trains making a special stop there. It was so enormous after a modern train, gleamingly polished and with such a reminiscent smell.
Good morning all. Looks like rain here in Cheshire.
Trip to Waitrose this morning to get some treats for the two youngest GC who come for tea every Friday.
Lovely picture Alizarin -how nice to be artistic . Your Dad was very talented.
I recognise that poemAshcombe and have heard it spoken many times.
Must be earlier this morning as only one page of posts.
Hope the day brings some pleasure to all.
Good morning all, following overnight rain it is a sunny morning here on the S Welsh coast.
Congrats to your DD Susan. I'm sorry to hear of your DFIL's fall and hope he will be home soon.
Enjoy your steam train trip Mary, all our family love steam trains.
Wishing you all a pleasant day.
A tad damp here in mid Cornwall. Digging work continues. The final outlet one is narrow and deep. It reminds me of the lead mines I been down in on the edge of the Peak District. I’ve a kean interest in local history.
Finishing of Sainsburys order today. DD and DGD arrive tomorrow so there’s lots of extra vegetables on order. Drainage and digger parts collection didn’t happen yesterday as MrM decided to replace two more hoses. Whilst I’m out collecting everything today, I’ll be popping into the fish mongers for crab.
Mop and bucket will be out today. The bedroom annex bathroom hasn’t seen it for a long time.
What a long wait for the ambulance Susan. What a worry too with the hospital trust! Hope he’s well looked after ??
What a talented man Ali.
Hope everyone has a safe Friday with their journeys, whether short or long, for pleasure or necessaries.
I’ll pop back later tonight to catch up with news from others.
Enjoy the cycling tomorrow Mick.
?? ?
Good morning from a dull Black Country where it obviously rained overnight.
Hoping it brightens up, so we can go for a walk. I am trying to ignore the pile of ironing!
Lovely paintingAlizarin your Dad was so talented.
Enjoy your trip Marydoll we have the Severn Valley railway near here, and always stop at the station in Bridgnorth to watch the steam trains.
Hoping today is kind to you all
Good morning Mick, morning all from cloudy South Lanarkshire.
I’m feeling rather flat after reading another thread which has upset me. Ridiculous but I’ll put it down to hypersensitivity brought on by repeated lockdowns.
Alizarin, how talented your Dad was and you must have inherited his skill to have been able to complete the painting albeit under his direction.
Well done to your DS Gagagran.
Congratulations to your DD Susan and I hope your FiL is recovering, that’s a dreadfully long time to have waited for an ambulance.
Have a lovely trip Marydoll, there’s just something about steam trains isn’t there?
Charity shop day, I hope they have lots of bric a brac for me to sort out. There were slim pickings last week as they hadn’t accepted any donations of any kind for a week due to lack of space in the storeroom.
Wishing everyone a peaceful Friday.
Forgot to add - have a fantastic trip Marydoll I remember throwing pennies off the bridge when going on holiday to Leven in my childhood. So exciting !
Beautiful picture Alizarin your dad was very talented.
So sorry to hear about your FiL Susan.I do hope he is okay. I remember those incidents with my parents but I was able to go with them. Waiting for the ambulance is torture.
Not too hopeful Corner DH has been known to put ice cream in the fridge - twice!
Good morning Mick and all his followers. There was overnight rain in Suffolk and it has just begun again. At least those watching the TdF, like Mick will be sitting in the dry!
Cleaning, bed changing and packing today. We are away for a couple of nights next week and a friend arrives to stay with us a couple of hours after we get home. It’s the second time this has happened!
Enjoy your trip Marydoll! We stayed in the apartments overlooking the station at Porthmadog too Corner. A tip - don’t sit in the open carriage on the journey from Porthmadog to Beddgelert. There is a long tunnel on the way and the steam, smoke, soot and sulphur fill your carriage! The smell took me back to my childhood, when I used to go shopping with my mum. We always had to check before we crossed the bridge so that we weren’t crossing when a steam train went under or you got steamed.
Susan I hope there is good news of FiL today. Medical care in West Wales seems to be hit and miss.
I hope the day is kind to everyone.
Good morning all from a very bright start to the day here on the east coast of Fife oops speaking too soon perhaps, it’s now clouding over
We had some rain yesterday afternoon himself is so pleased he managed to get the lawn mowed before the rain came on he’s very good at judging when to get that lawnmower out the overcrowded shed. We’ve been on FaceTime to our second youngest grandson wishing him a happy 11th birthday. He’s so handsome I told him I wished I had skin like his and he laughed. He’s now at an age where his football knowledge matched that of himself he surprised us both with his intelligent adult like conversation. My oh my these grandchildren of ours are growing up so fast. Marydoll have a great day on the flyingbscot I saw her on the move while sitting in a quaint tea room in Dingwall near Strathpeffer when she-first came out of hibernation. So magnificent. I love travelling on a train and so miss my travails
keep within the guidelines and you’ll be safe DAE AS YER TELT
Oh and a dear acquaintance of mine is also a talented artist I’ve a couple of her paintings which I just love ? I’m unable at the moment to post one hopefully I’ll be able do it tomorrow Alizarin you’ve got a great talent I love your painting
Good morning Auntyflo and all x
Good morning from North Yorkshire. It’s rained since yesterday evening and looks set in for the day.
Yesterday was beautiful for our walk in the arboretum.
Today will be housework and admin.
Enjoy the train Mary, well done to your DD Susan and your DS gaga. Hope your FIL is ok Susan .
Here are a couple of photos from the garden before the rain.
Have a good day everyone. Stay safe.
Good morning from a very wet Morecambe Bay. Nothing exciting planned for today. A bit of crochet maybe and catch up with a few overdue telephone calls. Thinking of all with problems and too many missing posters.
Take care and stay safe everyone.?
Good morning from a dull N. Bucks .
Yesterday the weather was lovely for our friends visit., we were outside all day. DGS were eager to show off new found smiling and football skills respectively .
Lots of little jobs to do today and to start thinking about packing lists for our holiday .
Hope today is kind to you all and there are some smiles along the way.
Good morning Mick and all from a wet northwest Lancashire coast.
Off to art group in a mo and even made an effort to put some make up on. If I had spent as much time painting canvases instead of my face, I’d be Leonardo da Vinci by now. Hope it’s not still life ?
Making my way home north the other day on the tube, I pulled out a flip up seat and fell flat on my bum as it had sprung back.
Wasn’t embarrassed as with mask on and knowing no one, who cares? Main thing is I’m ok.
Enjoyed coffee with good friend yesterday wondering how she keeps her house so show house proud with bad feet and a bad shoulder. I do admire her.
Thoughts to all with troubles and will read through later.
Good morning Mick and all from hot Lueneburg. Such a lovely positive thread this morning. Beautiful painting, lovely photos, interesting journeys and good news. I have had my 2nd vaccination yesterday. Feeling fine today (not like the first one). Gardening work today and general cleaning of the house. For the 3rd time friends are coming to me on Sunday rather than meeting at a friend`s flat as it is so hot. Our dogs can play in my garden. Next week our club is starting again and I can go back to the fitness centre - but only if it has cooled down. Inside Lueneburg there are some tourists but otherwise the town is quite empty. We still have to wear masks when going into the shops. So, I hope that you all have a pleasant day. Take care.
Togo’s morning, Michael and all GNs. It’s wet in South Yorkshire. No matter. Good for the garden. We had a walk in our favourite park yesterday and on the way back called into the garden centre to buy a tarragon plant. £1.99. DH is still trying to work out how I managed to spend £28.99 while (he says) he wasn’t looking!?. We had a face time last night with DD and DiL who are coming down to stay next week for a couple of days.
Alizarin that’s an amazing painting. Your dad was very talented. I adore steam trains.
Have a good day one and all.
Dull and wet here today. Susan56 so desperately sorry to hear about your FiLs treatment, you must be so worried. Legally surely someone could, and should, have gone with him. Lucky you Marydoll, very envious of your steam trip, how fabulous, look forward to your pictures tomorrow. Good luck with the blood test 'Ash*.
I have made a vegan ginger cake to take to tea with a vegan friend this afternoon. First time I had come across a recipe needing 'flax eggs' which you make by mixing ground flax seed with water and leaving it till it is really gloopy. Interesting, but seems to have risen. Really sinful with boiled syrup and brown sugar poured over the cooked pricked cake like a lemon drizzle. Hope she takes it home, she is as skinny as a rake, and the calories must be horrendous!?.
? oh no, it’s raining again ?, good morning Mick and all from a very wet Anglesey. Wish I hadn’t wished for rain, now I wish it would stop. I promise not to moan about having to water with the hose ever again.
Wow Alizarin, your father was a very talented artist and what a lovely way for you to grow up, surrounded by paint and canvas.
A day of reading, perhaps a flick of a duster here and there and maybe a game of scrabble as we haven’t played for months. Such an exciting life but contented so mustn’t complain.
Hope you all have the best day you can today ?and those of you hanging on to the sunshine, give it back please or at least share a bit.
B9 that cake looks delicious
Good morning from a soggy, cool South Yorkshire. It looks to be set in for the day, too.
Just enjoying my breakfast after fasting for bloods, the cup of tea tasted delicious! ?
The plan to cut the grass will now have to be put on hold until it dries up again. This mixed weather is certainly encouraging it to grow. Instead, it looks like I'll be getting the vacuum out to give the rooms a good fettle instead.
That's a wonderful painting by your Father, Alizarin.
Well, I hope that you all have the best day you can, take care.
Good morning Mick, Annie and all. It had been raining here, and is still quite damp underfoot.
I am awaiting a visit from an Occupational Therapist this morning. She is due at 11.00, and I don't have any idea how long she will be here.
Beautiful painting Alizarin, how clever you and you dad are.
Is it today for your steam trip Marydoll, anyway enjoy, and don't get smuts in your eyes.
That cake looks delicious B9, makes me feel like baking, if I bet the energy ?
Robbie, the robot cleaner, is beavering away upstairs, and DH is writing a shopping list. I am doing nothing, yet ?
I enjoyed my coffee outing yesterday and managed to find two tee shirts that I liked.
Have a good day one and all.
