The death of the comedian

I used to like Little Britain but I can see why many wouldn’t. My Dad, when he was alive, bought me several of the series for Christmas one year because he thought it was patriotic. Love him, he’d never actually watched it and was going by the title !

there are no stand up comedians that suit my sense of humour anymore! Sarah millican is just gross and her husband gary delaney is lavatorial ..... each to there own I realise. They could never hold there own in a comedy show because they are not actors of course.. There are many like them.

I watched victoria wood on bbc2 last night, now there was a star.
I like 'would I lie to you' also.

On You’re Dead to Me my favourite BBC Sounds podcast Greg Jenner has historian and a comedian discussing various historical events. He’s had comedians on the programme that I’ve never heard of but they’ve been so funny. Because he’s one of the creators of Horrible Histories he likes to make history funny and interesting. I must admit to not finding the guy from Ranganation very funny and yet he appears to be on everything. I haven’t seen many stand up comedians but when I have I’ve been bitterly disappointed with them eg Dylan Moran but the stand out stand up was Rich Hall. I love him anyway and his BBC4 programmes are brilliant.

Recently motherland and Wayback when absolutely fabulous… Ricky Gervais.

I like Man like Mobeen too but I think some of the humor is very West Midlands

Try watching 'Would I lie to you'. you'll find that extremely funny, mainly, of course , Lee Mack

I like most if not all the above, but the op has a point though.

All the above mentioned apart from Motherland (which has just finished) are relatively old.

Would Australians get This Country, I wonder?

I did recommend it to one DD in Australia the other day, I think she's still enough in touch with rural West Country life to enjoy it and find it funny.

I know this will go against the mainstream opinions but I never found Ken Dodd Morcombe and Wise or the two Ronnies remotely funny
It's down to taste, I agree. I never found 'Monty Python's Flying Circus' even remotely amusing, I thought I was just silly.
But I saw Ken Dodd live at the theatre. His amazing ability to keep his audience in stitches was legendary. For me, it was a very poignant performance, with the audience singing 'happy birthday' to him. It was for (I think -I'm happy to be corrected) his ninetieth and he died not long afterwards.

another favorite of mine is QI, I prefer Sandi Tokvig to Stephen Fry but its a close run thing

Peter Kay is one of the most talented observational comedian ever. His ability to see humour in the most ordinary everyday situtions, is really very clever and very funny. Car Share will be a comedy classic, just like Monty Python and Fawlty Towers are now.

I love Motherland. And Peter Kay. And Russell Brand. Not everyone's cup of tea but I went to see him live and almost had to leave the theatre. I was laughing so much I was close to fainting. Tears streaming, I could hardly breathe.

Motherland is brilliant - the hellscape of the school gate and all those bitchy mums.

I so agree agree Kim. However be warned whenever I complain of ‘political correctness’ I usually get a telling off.

Motherland is funny, in an excruciating way. I also like Have I Got News for You. On the radio I listen to Deadringers, The News Quiz and I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue.

DH and I probably have different ideas about what is funny, he disliked This Country and I loved it.

Think being politically correct has stunted flair.

My favourite comedy series of late has been The Ranganation, a format that I think worked better in a lockdown Zoom setting in series 2 and 3 compared to the studio setting of series 1. Yes, there's bit of bad language but I really enjoy the banter between Romesh Ranganathan and his regular Zoom focus group including his mum.

I like The Office (Ricky Gervais), Have I Got News For You, Would I Lie To You, and Man Down.

What do you mean by "potty mouthed"? Swearing? Sexual references?

I don't mind swearing (it's just words), but don't like vulgarity. I don't like Jimmy Carr for that reason, but find Mickey Flanagan and Sean Lock very funny.

Paul Merton makes me laugh with his off the wall comments.

Henning Wehn the German comedian has IMO a British sense of humour. So funny.
