Diana’s statue

I don’t know what I was expecting but it wasn’t this odd lump of horrible coloured metal. The clothes don’t seem to suit her as I remember her but perhaps it’s just my aged recollection. Still as long as her sons are happy with it, that’s all that really matters. Is the statue going to be on public display?

I’ve only seen it on my phone. I don’t know what I was expecting but it didn’t enthrall me at first glimpse. The bust area is too full - she was slender. Perhaps it is to depict her older?? The children look out of proportion to me. Just so long as William and Harry like it. Bit underwhelmed really.

Thank you, grannygravy.

Have not had a really good look just trying to get used to the metal look of Diana. I suppose you would need to view it in person as looking at pictures on the laptop it is almost impossible to see the third child that appears to be standing behind them, rather random I thought.

Shandy57 Thu 01-Jul-21 16:56:56

I can't understand why it was three random children, and don't think they captured her at all well.

That's a lovely picture.

This is the photo of her and Prince Harry wearing the clothes that the statue clothes are modelled on

Grandmadinosaur - luckily I had my glasses on or the statue could have been anyone and I would have been none the wiser.

grandmajean oops you are right it is 2 random children. I was looking at the photo on my phone and didn’t have glasses on at the time. I’ve just looked at it again on my I pad and on second glance I find it disappointing. It isn’t even a good likeness of Diana.

annsixty Thu 01-Jul-21 16:43:55

Whoever up thread said Fiona Bruce got it right.
The clothes and those of the children are very dowdy, however I didn’t pay for it so that is ok.

Cherrytree59 Thu 01-Jul-21 16:41:11

The two children that I can see that is smile

Cherrytree59 Thu 01-Jul-21 16:40:26

Why the big belt?.

The children seem to be done well and I think this just makes Diana look like a headteacher shepherding children, rather than her appearing kindly towards them.

Agree with other PP, her face looks masculine and maybe that is why it comes across as hard to me.

As long as her sons and families are happy.

Grandmajean Thu 01-Jul-21 16:38:13

I don't like it much but I never think statues look like who they are supposed to be although I did quite like the one of Eric Morecambe.

seacliff Thu 01-Jul-21 16:38:02

I don't think it does her justice really, but hopefully her sons are pleased. Also there is a third child almost hidden, I suppose this just represents her love of children generally.

Callistemon Thu 01-Jul-21 16:34:06

It doesn't seem to have captured the glow she had when she was with children.
She was only 36 when she died and this makes her look much older too, or was that the point?

Presumably William and Harry must have approved it.

Framilode Thu 01-Jul-21 16:31:49

Her body seems far too bulky and the face looks more like Fiona Bruce.

tickingbird Thu 01-Jul-21 16:30:29

Frankly I don’t like it. I think it looks a bit odd somehow - the clothes don’t seem right but pleased there us one and the brothers like it.

theworriedwell Thu 01-Jul-21 16:30:02

Well one of the children is a girl I think.

Grandmajean Thu 01-Jul-21 16:28:47

I'm going to have to look at the picture of the statue again as I thought it was two random children !

Tizliz Thu 01-Jul-21 16:28:16

I quite like it, but then my husband and I disagree about the artist’s other work.

theworriedwell Thu 01-Jul-21 16:27:47

Just out of interest why do people still refer to Prince William and Prince Harry as boys? Prince William is 39 and Harry is 36, not exactly boys.

Grandmadinosaur Thu 01-Jul-21 16:24:49

I’ve only seen it on my phone but it wasn’t what I thought it would be although it’s nice that it’s with her 2 beloved boys.
I assume as it’s in the sunken gardens at Kensington Palace the public will be able to view it Bluebellwould

FlexibleFriend Thu 01-Jul-21 16:22:58

It's a statue, it looks like it was modelled on her nursery teacher days. I thought it was good to see Harry happy and smiling.

ginny Thu 01-Jul-21 16:22:07

Can’t say I’m too keen either..

Mrst1405 Thu 01-Jul-21 16:03:58

Must say I wasn't impressed. It looks a bit out if proportion and a bit manly somehow. Ask long as the boys like it.
