Have you a memory that makes you happy to recall? One that says in my mind happened when we were on holiday with three children aged 12, 10 and 3. We had a lovely day and I felt we had sent quite enough for one day ! We were heading back to our cottage when our youngest demanded a colourful / silver hellium balloon being sold by a street seller. We were all tired and the little one was playing up - as they do at that age ! I made it clear she had had quite sufficient that day. Unbeknown to me a young man must have heard me. I was aware of someone walking behind us , he passed in front , bobbed down in front of our youngest and presented her with a balloon and the words " it's your lucky day" he then just walked away before we could thank him.
of course our child was delighted. This gesture did not make me feel I had been undermined it made me smile . The balloon was a parrot shape and gave my daughter much pleasure because as it slowly deflated it moved around the room , was in a different place each morning! Daughter now has her own children , she has never forgotten the balloon she named Parrotini. given by a stranger that' flew' round the room during the night! Happy days.

I wonder about that too Beechnut. It was such a lovely spontaneous act of kindness. We had had a happy but tiring day , and this small act made us all smile - especially our 3 year old!

When you think how many of our happiest memories are of the kindness shown by others it makes you realise that showing kindness is one of the best things you can do with your life.

I remember climbing onto my grandad's lap when I was tiny and him rubbing my little, bare, cold feet with his huge, weathered, old hands to warm them up. Such a happy little thing that has stayed with me all my days.

I remember my dad getting ready for work. I had 8 brothers and sisters so there never was any milk for his morning cuppa but we always had a tin of Libbys milk which he used and if I was up he used to make me a cup too. Still have a tea with evap milk now and again and always think of him when I drink it.
