Reminder re Royal Mail scam

I’ve had 2 of those texts in the past week, didn’t realise I could have reported. Hmmm so what are the chances of me remembering that nugget of information long enough to report it the next time I receive one of those fraud texts?! ?

If you save the number to your contacts on your phone, and call it scam texts, you won't have to remember it and you'll have it all ready.

Apparently the numbers 7726 on a phone pad spell out the word SPAM if that’s any help.

It's isn't an amount that would ring alarm bells. I watched Rip Off Britain a few months ago and they dealt with this scam. Once the fraudsters have your personal details they clear your bank accounts and take out loans against you. Be aware all the time.

Too true Sarnia. To be honest I had two Royal Mail deliveries recently. Normally stuff comes from Amazon. This is the first time I’ve had one of these and I’m wondering if somehow it is linked to the deliveries I’ve had from Royal Mail.

It was so convincing that I’m sure if I was expecting something I would probably have clicked on it without thinking.

One further tip I picked up somewhere was that you should check the name of the company was spelt exactly correctly before the .co.uk or the .com.

Hi, if you look at a text from Royal Mail, it will say Royal Mail at the very top of the screen, same with all other delivery companies. With the scam texts, it has a mobile number instead. These scammers are also using Hermes, DPD, DHL. Stay safe?

Thanks debsododband I didn’t know that. It’s true the message I received did have a mobile number at the top.

I have had a Royal Mail card through the door asking me to go online to pay excess postage fee. It does look kosher, but I am biding my time on it to see if an expected parcel does not arrive.

Thought I was scam savvy but this one caught me out and I fell for it as I was anxious to receive consignments involved and planned to take it up with the suppliers later. Fortunately Fanny Carnforth quickly put me wise to this and I immediately cancelled my bank card. Sorted. I will always be grateful to her and never again think I'm so smart as to always recognise a scam. Pride came before an almost fall indeed.

No Luckygirl it is bogus , if a delivery needs to be rearranged that will not cost you anything

The card says the sender did not put sufficient postage on the parcel. But I am biding my time on it. I have several parcels due and have contacted the suppliers.

Have you tried telephoning your local sorting office to check? If its genuine, they will have the parcel and there should be an option of collecting it from the sorting office and paying the postage due.
