Having seen Gingster's lovely wedding picture on the Good Morning thread, I'm curious to see more from other GNs. I'll start with mine! This was 1972; would have been our Golden next year, but DH sadly died three years ago. Still brings back so many happy memories.

Oh Yammy that made me laugh!

Lovely photos everyone. We were 19 and 20 when we got married. On the morning of the wedding I had a driving lesson, ending at my best friend’s house (chief bridesmaid) and she had her lesson, taking us back to mine. The instructor was flabbergasted ?
We were married in the afternoon, and had a really lovely day.

Unfortunately, true what a way to start.
My father really topped it all with his speech, quoting Health Wealth and Happiness. He said 'Happiness you will both have to work hard, wealth well I'll be better of when she's married and you'll be providing the wealth and as for health Physician heal thy self and your wife". There were a few sniggers and a lot of gasps. We were 23 and I had gone back to live at home while my DH finished his studies.
We had wanted to get married two years earlier but had been stopped by DH's family. They refused to pay for the Bubbly reception and the flowers I wanted in my bouquet, so my poor Father had paid for everything. I did buy my own dress.
We still laugh about it and looking back we should have eloped to a Registry Office which was what DH wanted all along.wink

Such beautiful pictures, all of them!
Lucca I can see the love for your father shining through even if the husband ultimately wasn’t up to scratch!

Somebody mentioned earlier how so many brides these days all look very similar as they are made up, polished, tweaked to within an inch of their lives, yet our generation, well we just did our best and we all scrubbed up fine, didn’t we ?

We've just celebrated 48 years together after being given 18 months by FIL
DH had been a student until two days previous and looks it and as if he had been lassoed.
The hairdresser slept in.
My father talked about it as if it was a football match.
The minister said it was the quickest wedding he had ever conducted even when he worked in India.
The photographer had forgotten to put a film in the camera.
The taxis to the reception got caught in an Orange lodge parade and some of the guests had a big religious argument
They forgot to send the taxi for us.
DH forgot where we were staying and had to break into his parent's house by standing on a dustbin.
I didn't realise the blouse of my going away outfit was see-through but DH student friends certainly did.
When we got to Edinborough it rained and the umbrella DH had been given showered us in confetti on the Royal mile.
I accidentally signed the register in the hotel with my maiden name and got a smutty look and so it goes on...blush

Married in 1949 Hubby died in 2016. We had 67 years together although he did not know me for the last eighteen months through the rotten Dementia. We were a different as chalk and cheese in nature but we were happily married for all those years.
We had no fancy wedding receptions then and were still on rations but even the neighbours and the barrow boys contributed something to make our Cockney wedding day go with a swing. The reception was held in my parents front room.
My dress was made out of parachute silk.

Marydoll

Thank you Callie. ?
It's still red, but much lighter. It looks as if I have spent a fortune on highlights, but it's actually streaks of white!
At one point it was so long and curly, my colleagues named me Crystal Tips.

Is your DH called Alistair? ?

(Sorry, just realised Alistair is a dog ?)

Grammaretto Thu 28-Jul-22 23:01:14

Such beautiful brides! and their grooms.
I will try to fish one out tomorrow.

Baggytrazzas Thu 28-Jul-22 23:01:04

these are all lovely photos of very happy times in your lives.

Its amazing how young everyone looks. I don't have any photos handy but we looked around 15 years old ( were 21 and 23).Although we all did our best with clothes, hair and make up, we didn't have the film star treatments and professional make overs that brides get now. I think everyone in the photos here looks individual whereas a lot of the brides now look almost like sisters, as they have the same false lashes, lip fillers, hair extensions etc as everyone else.

lovely to be sharing these. thank you.
