When I saw pictures of Princess Alexandra with Sophie Wessex today, I thought that they epitomise all that is so good about our Royal Family. The Princess looked a stylish delight and Sophie her usual quiet but poised self. What a comfort they must be to Her Majesty.

You have misunderstood my post Yorki, sorry if it wasn't clear.

I was talking about the way the people on here talk about Meghan and Harry. Which your post just exemplifies, actually.

Yorki Thu 15-Jul-21 10:05:26

Alegrias1.. I agree with you, I'd describe Harry and Meghan attitudes towards the royal family venomous to say the least. " Toxic" is how I'd describe Meghan Markle, and Harry is just plain " stupid". I feel so sorry for both of their families.

Nobody's been unkind about these three, some people have pointed out truths about one of them, expressed an opinion that the aristocracy is not perhaps such a good thing and nobody has said anything untrue about the Duchess of Kent. Apart from the people who can't tell her apart from Princess Alexandra, that is.

People aren't critical of them "just because they are Royal", that's an odd thing to say.

And "venom"; extreme malice and bitterness shown in someone's attitudes, speech, or actions. If you want to see venom, take a look at any thread that mentions Harry and Meghan.

True enough about people being unpleasant at heart though, but not the people you meant, I suspect.

I find the venom directed at individuals, just because they form part of the Royal family unpleasant.

One of the saddest aspects of the internet is that it has revealed just how nasty and unpleasant many people are at heart, even though in everyay life they hide this behind a veneer of being kind and thoughtful.

Hear hear Jabberwock.

What is it that makes some people so unkind about these three ladies, none of whom has done them any harm in any shape or form? I guess its because one is a royal and the other two married a royal and royal = bad person. I'm all for conversation and different opinions, but why the venom? It's unnecessary and sad. Everyone makes mistakes, no one can help how family members behave, no one can help the circumstances of their birth or who the fall in love with. No wonder people don't want to join in GN conversations anymore as sometimes it's a quite unpleasant place and getting worse.

Katherine Worsley (the Duchess of Kent) was featured in a documentary recently; she became depressed and ill following the loss of a child, and subsequently taught music in schools - she is know an 'Katherine Kent.'

I always remember the Duchess’ kindness to poor Jana on Centre Court. I appreciated her not expecting Jana to try and put a brave face on the terrible disappointment

I wish Gransnetters could agree to differ without getting personal with one another. Sophie Wessex was money grubbing, as Fergie attempted to do by exploiting her ex.

I haven’t seen the photo but both lovely, graceful and elegant, so too is the Duchess of Kent. So different to some of the younger Royals (or not royals!). Kate is in the same vein, she is lovely.

Yorki Sun 11-Jul-21 03:05:28

NGAIOL... I can imagine Princess Anne and Zara Phillips, referring human breeding to "good stock". It's a very "horsey " think to do.

MOnica speaks good sense as usual.

Princess Alexandra was diagnosed a while ago with Polymyalgia Rheumatica. A horrid illness which I was diagnosed with last year. She still
is beautiful at 84, and still works tirelessly for the Alzheimer’s Society. I met Princess Marina her mother as a child. My dad was a psychiatrist and worked in a now long gone Mental Hospital and she came to open a new wing of the hospital. She was beautiful and very elegant I remember thinking then. Very unassuming and preferred to use her biro for signing her name rather than a smart silver one that was bought especially for her!smile

lemsipyou are correct indeed that it was the Duchess of Kent who taught music to schoolchildren in an inner city school not too far from us in Yorkshire. Amazing story!

coastalgran .........you must mean the Duchess of Kent not princess Alexandra, google it.

Cabbie21 Sat 10-Jul-21 19:21:15

When Princess Margaret got married, we did not have a television. My Dad rashly promised he would get one for the next royal wedding, thinking it would be Prince Charles or Princess Anne. He kept his promise sooner than he thought, when Princess Alexandra got married.

coastalgran Sat 10-Jul-21 19:03:43

Princess Alexandra has always been very discreet, so much so that in her early royal life she continued to teach music and none of the pupils knew that she was royalty. Sophie is so stylish and again very discreet and a favourite of the Queen so is her daughter Lady Louise, perhaps this is why the Duke of Edinburgh left her his carriage and horses, he knew that they would be in good hands, appreciated and looked after and loved.

Have I mentioned how much I hate be kind grin

Roni The Countess of Wessex made a bad mistake several decades ago and that has already been referred to on this thread.

To compare that with the long term louche lifestyle of Prince Andrew, of dodgy friends and dodgy deals is ridiculous.

Deedaa Sat 10-Jul-21 15:09:01

Roni I would have thought that Sophie is as unlike Prince Andrew as it is possible to be.

Aepgirl Sat 10-Jul-21 14:45:57

They both give great support to the Queen - no moaning or throwing tantrums when they’re not the in the limelight.

I love them both. I remember when Sophie had an ectopic pregnancy I so felt for her as I had been through it. I have great respect for them.
