Welcome to Thread II!

We companionably mused, gossiped and waffled about Royalty, and vaguely related things for 1000 posts!

Starting with names; and ending on them them…
and in between covered everything from Adam Faith to Scottish Country Dancing!

So, as before, God Bless this Ship and All who Sail in her! ??

Perhaps a Gransnet voters section on YouGov is the way forward. I just looked it up, and you can look up popularity by generation for each Royal, it’s interesting to see the differences in the perceptions of different age groups - Prince William is the favourite for Generation X for example.
yougov.co.uk/ratings/politics/popularity/royalty/all
Not sure how representative of the UK public YouGov is though.

Casdon you may be right, the problem is I can't see anyway the individual at the top could slip down ( well there is one but we don't mention it on GN). Maybe we do need a Superleague--but then who? Oh my brain hurts I give up!

Casdon Tue 03-Aug-21 18:21:48

A league table can’t have people in fixed positions at the top and the bottom can it, or it wouldn’t be a league table, smacks of the Superleague. All votes would need to be equal, and it would no doubt end up with very surprising results for those who set it up. Prince Edward for example could be Leicester City one year, and trounce the rest in popularity - but it would be the people’s vote that got him there.

Is it time to send a message to GN HQ with a word of praise for one of these posts.

Fanny I did not say she hasn’t cashed in on her connection to
the royal family, I said she has not given interviews slagging them off.

Yes, sorry, I acknowledge that. I didn’t say that you did say that, but I can understand why you thought that you were implicated

Anniebach Tue 03-Aug-21 17:35:45

Really trisher if you are going run up a league table only you
know who will be at the top and bottom, you are a republican so we can expect anyone who slags off the family will be top of your list.

trisher Tue 03-Aug-21 17:28:26

FannyCornforth

*trisher*, you couldn’t run up a league table could you, or perhaps we could do some sort of vote?

I think we all know who would be at the top and the bottom of this league. Maybe we should have a points system for the rest. They could move up and down acording to actions and perception.

Haven’t heard much about the billboards recently

www.independent.co.uk/life-style/royal-family/republic-monarchy-abolish-royal-family-b1894316.html

On another topic, Fergie is just a silly girl, apparently, and M&H are evil incarnate.

Who knew?

eazybee Tue 03-Aug-21 17:05:19

Fergie's misdemeanours and problems were brought about by her self-indulgent stupidity with no thought for the consequences; Meghan, and Harry's, actions are calculated, pre-meditated and with malice aforethought.

Lucca I have never said everything Meg has done is bad, I give my opinion on what she say and does. You brought
good camp / bad camp into it so it’s you that puts members of the Royal family into your camps.

No I don’t. It’s what I observe happening,

FannyCornforth Tue 03-Aug-21 16:56:50

trisher, you couldn’t run up a league table could you, or perhaps we could do some sort of vote?

trisher Tue 03-Aug-21 16:50:54

Actually Annie I think you will find I'm the Good Royal/ Bad Royal advocate.

Calendargirl Tue 03-Aug-21 16:41:09

But she says Prince Andrew is a lovely man, a great father and a wonderful grandad.

I honestly believe that is what she thinks actually. Despite the divorce, they seem very fond of each other still, and apart from all the Epstein business, I think he is a good dad and grandad.

FannyCornforth Tue 03-Aug-21 16:40:55

To say that Sarah Ferguson didn’t cash in on her royal connections is ridiculous.

She went to America and flogged all sorts of tat on the back of it. (I’m racking my brain for the name of her brand - it was something like ‘The Duchess Collection’.)
She also notoriously got ‘caught’ by the Fake Sheik for taking money for an introduction to Andrew.

She was an absolute terror for it.

Having said that, I do like the woman!

I admire Megan, I think she's fab. Love her sporting prowess. And her attitude. And her hair.

Lucca Tue 03-Aug-21 16:03:00

Mollygo I ignore the good / side bad side jibes, it’s used by
Megan admirers

Wrong. For the umpteenth time I’m not MEGHAN admirer (so childish to spell her name wrong ) I just think the “everything she does and has ever done is wrong/bad” is bizarre.

Anniebach Tue 03-Aug-21 16:00:16

trisher I only said Fergie hasn’t given interviews slagging off
her family or ex in laws, others spoke of her being a good royal.

I didn’t watch the programme you watched and posted about

trisher Tue 03-Aug-21 15:45:09

Oh come on Fergie was definitely bad Royal when she was having her toes sucked! But she says Prince Andrew is a lovely man, a great father and a wonderful grandad. (Do you think they are paying her?)

Mollygo Tue 03-Aug-21 14:40:12

No, you’re right, Anniebach, which actually makes Fergie’s silence look better, but I don’t get the good side/ bad side idea.

Anniebach Tue 03-Aug-21 14:36:27

But they wouldn’t get the world stage and big money Mollygo

Mollygo Tue 03-Aug-21 14:22:44

Yes Anniebach.
Really those who want to slag off their in-laws should do it anonymously like it is on GN.
