Welcome to Thread II!

We companionably mused, gossiped and waffled about Royalty, and vaguely related things for 1000 posts!

Starting with names; and ending on them them…
and in between covered everything from Adam Faith to Scottish Country Dancing!

So, as before, God Bless this Ship and All who Sail in her! ??

Whenever anyone mentions a Duchess all I can think of is the one in Alice who hands her the baby that turns into a pig. It's just so not Kate.

Alegrias1 Mon 02-Aug-21 09:50:41

You're right Fanny, that's not what we pay our Princesses Duchesses for. There would have been insurrection on the streets of Dundee. Instead of just disappointment.

FannyCornforth Mon 02-Aug-21 09:48:50

Come on Alegrias, at least she had the decency to be thin and wearing too much makeup. I bet that she was wearing ridiculous heels too.
Heaven knows. she could have shown up being all overweight and nondescript shock

Sparklefizz Mon 02-Aug-21 09:45:19

So your main complaint is that she didn't stop and speak to people on that day, not that she is thin and uses makeup? You just added in those complaints eh?

It's still not much of a "crime" compared to she who cannot be named who was also being financially supported. I think you're clutching at straws.

Calendargirl Mon 02-Aug-21 09:44:10

Catherine is only a duchess, not a princess Alegrias. She will have to wait for Wills to be Prince of Wales first.

(I know I’m being pedantic. I think she is entitled to be called Princess William, if she chooses, am sure Annie will confirm).

Anniebach Mon 02-Aug-21 09:43:20

As did Meg who told her husband she wanted to kill herself,
put on her make up, went to Albert Hall, cried when the lights were down then when lights went up greeted guests, make up
perfect, big, big, big smile , what a fantastic princess

Alegrias1 Mon 02-Aug-21 09:29:33

No, I'm sorry Sparklefizz, we pay for her to be a Princess and be nice to people. Especially people who hang around for hours waiting to see her.

(Where is that sarcasm emoji when you need one?)

Sparklefizz Mon 02-Aug-21 09:27:21

Alegrias If all you can find to criticise about Kate is that she's thin and wears - in your opinion - too much makeup, well I reckon she's doing ok. Her Mum and siblings are also thin. Who can help genetics?

And on the day she rushed to the car - good grief! What a terrible crime. Cut her some slack.... maybe she had her period or a headache.

Pedantry time - St Andrews. Not Saint Andrews smile.

Oh really? I ‘work’ at a Saint school, and they get quite huffy about it being written in full.
Is it a Catholic / Protestant thing I wonder?

I don't know for sure Fanny but I think its something to do with a change to the spelling over time of the original name - there should be an apostrophe at the end of "Andrew's" as well, if it was really Saint Andrew's town, but there's not. confused

Ellianne Mon 02-Aug-21 09:22:27

Tongue in cheek Annie. There isn't a snarky emoji to hand!

Alegrias Other Royals now, especially those who live abroad; everything that is written about them is gospel truth!

I, for one, don't believe what's written about H&M .... their actions speak for themselves.

I saw K&W once, they were visiting my nearest city and I joined the throng, not knowing what we were waiting for. A woman in the crowd told me what the crowd was for so I hung around.

William came out, he's much better looking in real life and chatted and waved to lots of people.

Katherine came out and into that waiting limousine like a bat out of hell. Too much make up, painfully thin and didn't even bother stopping to talk to or interact with the adoring fans who had waited for her. But then, there were no cameras around.

Her actions spoke for themselves.

Calendargirl, you've been watching too much of The Windsors ?

Anniebach Mon 02-Aug-21 09:21:03

A woman running a business and having 3 children ? surely not

And while running her own business and looking after 2 other children!

In reply to Annie.

And was Pippa lined up for Harry?

Hmm, should he have chosen Middleton over Markle?

hmm

They must have got it on after the evening do!
Possibly upon a disheveled trestle table, amongst the left over sausage rolls, and to the strains of Careless Whisper, or more to Harry’s taste, The Birdy Song…

Kate’s mother planned it all ? Chose the university for Kate,
arranged for William to choose to date Kate above all the other
girls in his year , what a clever woman.

Alegrias tee hee!

FannyCornforth Mon 02-Aug-21 09:11:40

Ellianne you could be right about Ma Middleton - like her daughters she has a core of steel and an iron will. Fascinating women

Sparklefizz I do believe that she went to Saint Andrews because William did. I also believe that her chosen subject was picked because it’s what aristo girls study (as did I !)
I didn’t read that in the press, it came straight out of my brain.

Alegrias1 Mon 02-Aug-21 09:07:46

Fanny, slapped wrists!

Don't you know that we must NEVER cast aspersions on any aspect of the life and character of St Andrews Catherine? The papers made things up about her, you can't believe any of it. Other Royals now, especially those who live abroad; everything that is written about them is gospel truth!

Calendargirl Mon 02-Aug-21 09:05:40

Ellianne Mon 02-Aug-21 09:01:15

I thought it was known that her mum, Carole M, always had Catherine lined up for the position? Not necessarily Catherine herself at the start.

Sparklefizz Mon 02-Aug-21 08:47:24

She didn't have the poster ... that was cooked up by the press. It was Diana who had a poster of Prince Charles up on her wall.

The press claimed she went to St Andrews because William did. Do we believe everything they say?

Why shouldn't she have waited for the guy she loved? The breakup didn't last long. The Waity Katie phrase was another unkind thing cooked up by the press.

William said at their engagement interview that they had bided their time because he wanted to be sure she knew what she would be having to take on, and could cope. He did the opposite of Harry.

In my view she is a nice, stable, well-brought-up young woman with solid family values.
