Welcome to Thread II!

We companionably mused, gossiped and waffled about Royalty, and vaguely related things for 1000 posts!

Starting with names; and ending on them them…
and in between covered everything from Adam Faith to Scottish Country Dancing!

So, as before, God Bless this Ship and All who Sail in her! ??

It’s utterly ridiculous that I don’t know how to use a bloody phone
I am so technically inept
I’m practicing now…

Lucca Mon 26-Jul-21 09:17:34

To be honest I usually screen shot it and save to my photos often editing it too.

I’ve just googled Margaret’s wedding dress (I really must learn how to post pictures from the net)
She looked the business. My favourite so far.

Are you using your phone Fanny? Just press down on the selected image and it comes up as "save image" which then goes into your gallery to share.

Lucca heaven’s above! I actually gasped when I saw those bridesmaids! ?
The ‘mess’ was the queen mum’s dress and never ending veil combo.
Anne’s hair used to be gorgeous. There’s so much of it!

Yes lovely wedding dress but oh dear me look at the ghastly bridesmaid dresses !

Lucca Mon 26-Jul-21 08:57:53

What is a mess ? Anne’s hair ?!….
It’s like a birds nest I agree.

FannyCornforth Mon 26-Jul-21 08:34:41

Lucca oh dear. What a mess

Lucca Mon 26-Jul-21 08:34:35

I have to say I just don’t get Anne’s hair , sorry. The same for fifty years too !

What about this one? Looks kind of sack like ?

FannyCornforth Mon 26-Jul-21 08:30:13

Molly I recently read an old quote from Charles, referring to Andrew’s ‘Robert Redford good looks’.
They all look very different to each other.
I must say Charles did have his moments, that photo of him in his polo gear with Camilla.
Very Jilly Cooper!

Ellianne - yes, Beatrice looked stunning and I agree, it was sheer genius during the pandemic.

I think all children and grandchildren have at one time or another been stated as "the Queen's favourite". It must be horrible for the others.

Ellianne Mon 26-Jul-21 08:16:24

I think Beatrice's alteration of the Queen's frock was sheer genius in the middle of a pandemic. So pretty. I've heard she is the Queen's favourite GC?

Mollygo Mon 26-Jul-21 08:05:10

FC, I never really thought about it. Children’s looks are a bit like brains.
A combination of 2 first class degrees doesn’t always mean the children will be clever. Sometimes the children get a combo of the least attractive features or weakest skills and sometimes, they’re just not photogenic.

I’m going to say something which could be perceived as bitchy, but here goes.
I’ve always thought (for decades really) how odd it is that the Queen’s children (apart from Anne) aren’t very good looking.
The lads didn’t do well on the attractive genes front, considering how beautiful HM is and how handsome Philip was.

Andrew was good looking when he was young, Fanny

I’m no fashion expert, but always thought the Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding dress was a bit spoiled by the rather prominent bra cups.

I agree. It was the first thing you noticed. And it wasn't until I saw a recent film clip that I realised she had a sort of bustle at the back which was mostly hidden by the veil. She looked beautiful but it wasn't a knockout dress.

Meghan's wedding dress was stunning but not a good fit. As said above, her dress for the evening was better.

Anne's dress had beautiful sleeves and she looked lovely.

Diana wore a dress so utterly unlike anything bridal worn before - it was OTT but it was the 80s, and a complete fairytale dress, despite the creases. Looking back at photos, she looked so young (well, she was young!) and innocent.

Yes. Camilla looked fabulous. She really knows what suits her.
Yes. Meghan was utterly stunning
Yes. Catherine’s dress wasn’t very nice at all - Pippa’s was better
However, I really, really love Diana’s dress. Creases and all.

Yes, Anne looked absolutely gorgeous; she was an incredibly beautiful woman.
It’s a shame she doesn’t make ‘more of herself, now. She’s got all the raw material - it seems a terrible waste!

I think wedding dresses in the late 1960s and early 70s were the best. So elegant.
(My mom made her own m.1970.
She also made the bridesmaids dresses; arranged the flowers and made and decorated her cake! She was really, really talented. And a bit of a control freak!)

I recently saw a thread where GNers were sharing their wedding photos. The dresses were gorgeous.

FannyCornforth Mon 26-Jul-21 07:35:15

Oh it is now Lucca!
I’m so glad that we’re talking dresses now! ?
I haven’t caught up yet, but Kitty’s dress is very Italian, as it would be by D&G.
Was the wedding actually sponsored by D&G or something?
I saw something in the DM a couple of days ago about a pre-wedding party, and everyone was wearing D&G

I know this will be unpopular but I thought Meghan dress was stunning, simple elegance.
Undoubtedly poor Diana’s was the least elegant thing she ever wore.

Why do you think it will be unpopular Lucca? Because it’s Meghan? Well, I agree with you, her dress was beautiful. Also agree about Diana’s. Looking back on it, just a huge flouncy, creased creation that swamped her slimmer body. I bet in later years she hated it.

On the subject of royal wedding dresses, always thought Princess Anne’s first wedding dress was just right for her. Made her look a beautiful bride, which wasn’t really how she had ever come across before.

Casdon Sun 25-Jul-21 23:34:47

I liked Eugenie’s dress the best of the recent royal brides. Particularly because she chose not to hide her scar, but it flattered her figure so well, and was simple and well cut. Meghan’s looked too big on her I thought, although the evening one she wore was beautiful, I much preferred that to her main dress.

Diana's niece. Beautiful wedding dress and veil, Dolce and Gabbana.

She married a guy 32 years older. Her parents and some of her siblings weren’t there.

Ellianne Sun 25-Jul-21 22:20:22

Yes.
The Fashion Museum in Bath houses numerous wedding dresses (not royal) throughout the ages and has interesting exhibitions if anyone is ever in the area.

Perhaps this was the precursor?

Is that Grace Kelly ?
