Welcome to Thread II!

We companionably mused, gossiped and waffled about Royalty, and vaguely related things for 1000 posts!

Starting with names; and ending on them them…
and in between covered everything from Adam Faith to Scottish Country Dancing!

So, as before, God Bless this Ship and All who Sail in her! ??

Do you think that Harry realises how unpopular he now is in the UK?
Or do you think that he thinks that he is still the beloved ex soldier, with a cheeky smile, a winning way, and a heart of gold?

FannyCornforth Sat 24-Jul-21 10:24:36

The ghostwriter of Harry’s memoir is JH Moehringer.
He is an acclaimed author.
He wrote Andre Agassi’s autobiography, which in tabloid speak was ‘explosive’.
Moehringer is ‘obsessed with men who drop out of society’.

I think that the book (that book) will be better than I initially thought.

I’m sure it’s for the American market. I think this book/these books will go down like a lead balloon in the UK. People in the UK who would like a republic are not going to buy them, and people who support royalty will feel that the books are disrespectful and so unlikely to buy them. That’s my take on it anyway.

trisher Sat 24-Jul-21 10:19:03

I think they'l be aiming at the American market anyway. They are after all the 21st century embodiment of the term "Go West Young Man"- but now we have to add women as well!

I do think that the ‘wellness’ band wagon is a ship that has already sailed

Wellness, Mindfulness etc
Since the Ladybird spoof books does anyone take a lot of it seriously?

Mollygo Sat 24-Jul-21 10:18:07

The four book deal will benefit the ghost writer. Do you think it’ll be the same person doing all four-presumably the content has already been determined.

FannyCornforth Sat 24-Jul-21 10:14:09

Sorry - back to the matter in hand.
So the ‘four book news’ is referring to a book deal.
That makes far more sense.

I do think that the ‘wellness’ band wagon is a ship that has already sailed (confused)
I can’t think who their perceived audience / customer is, beyond the initial curiosity

It brings to mind Pippa’s book about entertaining which was well and truly slated and ridiculed

trisher Sat 24-Jul-21 10:13:22

OMG FC isn't it funny how you don't know how old anyone is on GN and then you suddenly realise someone is years younger than you and they were a babe in arms when you were out clubbing!!!

It’s fake news because they say it’s fake news ? We are to believe what they say ?

No Annie, I know you don't believe it. hmm

All they say is lies, they have been plotting this since Meghan was 12 years old and we'll all know the truth when she finally gets her dream to be President of the World.

FannyCornforth Sat 24-Jul-21 10:09:09

trisher ah, that’s lovely, thank you smile
However, I wasn’t even a twinkle in my father’s eye in the sixties! DH is 26 years my senior
When I was teenager I was obsessed with all things 1960s, especially kitchen sink dramas.
I based much of my ‘look’ on Jean Shrimpton
I know more about the popular culture of the time than he does!
I was obviously born in the wrong era!
I often wonder how our life together would have been if we’d met at the same age…

As I said somewhere else, the whole business is distasteful. Both for Harry and Meghan and for the press and public who want to read whatever revelations Harry has to feed them.

maddyone Sat 24-Jul-21 10:03:09

I really hope you’re right Allegrias. I really hope it is false news.
I had heard that Meghan is going to write one of the books, about wellness, whatever that is (that makes me sound like Prince Charles grin)

Alegrias1 Sat 24-Jul-21 09:56:45

A lot of that is fake news maddyone.

Especially the bit about the publication being after the Queen has gone. And one of the books is going to be about about wellness (confused)

We'll believe all sorts of things that reinforce our prejudices, I find.

maddyone Sat 24-Jul-21 09:52:48

I think the RF will be very upset about the latest revelation that Harry has signed a deal for four books. What has he got to say that it will fill four books? Also the disclosure that one will not be published until after the Queen’s death will be extremely disturbing for them. Surely Harry and his family are not that interesting!

Wow! FC you obviously can pick'em!!!

It was some thirty years later that we got together - I missed his prime!

Aw and FC I had such a lovely picture in my head of him in his suit and winkle pickers and you with your full skirt and white stilletos

Grany Sat 24-Jul-21 09:42:19

trisher

Well her mother left her over £70 million some of it in trust for W&H, but left to HM so there was no inheritance tax. She'd lived a well subsidised lifestyle, so some of that money should have come back to us. www.theguardian.com/uk/2002/apr/03/queenmother.monarchy2
But of course the RF are so caring and do so many good works they just don't pay tax like the rest of us.

Thanks trisher So much the Royals are allowed to get away with and spend public money freely.

Mollygo Sat 24-Jul-21 09:27:59

FC if your DH looked like that, Wow!
My mum said my DH looked like this photo of Bob Monkhouse when he was younger. He doesn’t now!

The Palace Letters a book by professor Jenny published It documents the queen's role in the 1975 Australian dismissal crisis and subsequent fight to keep official records hidden.

Grany Sat 24-Jul-21 09:09:29

Royals derived a fortune from their investments in slavery that was handed down from royal to royal no hereditary tax.

I wonder how much the embarrassing wealth the queen succeeded in being kept hidden from public she had accumulated

trisher I’ve got a photo of DH in his youth (taken in a Skeggie pub with his mates) and he looks justlike that!
