Welcome to Thread II!

We companionably mused, gossiped and waffled about Royalty, and vaguely related things for 1000 posts!

Starting with names; and ending on them them…
and in between covered everything from Adam Faith to Scottish Country Dancing!

So, as before, God Bless this Ship and All who Sail in her! ??

Anniebach

Titles are so unfair, when I joined the Young Wives my friend couldn’t because she wasn’t a Mrs.

At last! Something we agree on Annie!

FannyCornforth Mon 02-Aug-21 12:23:02

I recall that you agreed upon something else once.
It was something that I didn’t agree with.
I’ll try to remember what it was…

Ilovecheese

This sort of talk about some people being "higher" than other people is ridiculous.

My surname is King! grin

Anniebach Mon 02-Aug-21 12:51:27

Wish I hadn’t thought of Young Wives, now I am wondering
about trans women and Mothers Union and the W.I ?

Mollygo Mon 02-Aug-21 13:20:37

No idea about MU and transwomen, but as the group I joined allowed women without children to join, even all that time ago, I suppose it wouldn’t matter until someone started a ‘you MUST admit transwomen’ campaign.

trisher Mon 02-Aug-21 13:36:03

Now if one of the RF turned ot to be trans that might be interesting!

maddyone Mon 02-Aug-21 14:41:12

Going back to my post this morning, I think how it works is that a blood Princess is higher than a non blood Princess, so, if Meghan or Catherine are without their husbands and they meet Anne, Beatrice, or Eugenie, Meghan/Catherine must curtesy to Anne, Beatrice, or Eugenie, but if they are with their husbands, because Duke/Duchess is higher status than Princess, then Anne must curtesy to Meghan/Catherine. That’s how I understand it anyway. The Queen made some new rule recently (in the last few years) about blood princesses, so the blood princesses wouldn’t have to curtesy to the non blood princesses.

Is that absolutely clear? No, I thought not, not to me anyway, about as clear as mud. However I think all this curtseying and bowing is completely ridiculous, and I’m saddened that the Queen thinks it’s important.

Haha, the very image of Anne curtseying to a non blood royal is quite funny. I bet she’d say ‘Naff orf.’

Good heavens!

Mind you, Harry’s bound to run out of material soon…
It could be the final stage of his interminable journey

maddyone Mon 02-Aug-21 14:44:54

Sorry, got the letters the wrong way in some of my curtseys. My brain’s faddled with all this talk of who curtseys to who, it’s a good job I’m not royal, I’d never remember it all.

maddyone Mon 02-Aug-21 14:45:59

A royal trans person, that really would bring them into the same world as the rest of us.

maddyone Mon 02-Aug-21 14:47:38

My surname is King.

Well I think we’ll all have to curtsey to you Ellianne.

FannyCornforth Mon 02-Aug-21 14:54:08

That’s another thing that Catherine does really, really well - curtseying.
The more I think about it, the more convinced I am about her (and her mother’s) ambition.
I’d love to have a few bevvies with Pippa and get her to spill the beans.
Or even better, Michael. Now there’s a man who could do with letting his hair down!

I'm just imagining the Middleton's bedtime Stories.
So the prince kissed the princess and she woke up. Then he said he had some more wild oats to sow and left her, but like all good princesses she waited and waited for him
^ When she kissed the frog it turned into a prince, but she had to keep on kissing him to make sure he didn't turn back again^

So if someone made up a bitchy story about Meghan, you'd be happy with that, would you trisher? No? Why do it about Kate, then?

trisher Mon 02-Aug-21 17:50:31

Bedtime stories in the Markle household- And so the prince and his true love were married. But she realised immediately that the tiara was too tight, so she flogged it on e-bay, sold her story to Netflix and moved the family to California where they lived happily ever after.
Happy? Sparklefizz?

Calendargirl Mon 02-Aug-21 18:02:06

You don’t have to be a mother to be in the Mothers’ Union. You don’t have to be married, you can be widowed, divorced, female, male, trans, bi.

(Actually not sure about the last two, but the MU is very accepting nowadays).

Anniebach Mon 02-Aug-21 18:30:57

I assumed women would be allowed to join the Mothers Union,
I was a widow who joined the Mothers Union,

maddyone Mon 02-Aug-21 19:29:22

Has anyone else seen the trailer of the truly horrid American production The Prince?

I think there was a separate GN thread on this maddyone unless it has disappeared?
Since then I have read how Prince Philip is portrayed in the video, dribbling, which yet again is distasteful and out of order.

Lucca Mon 02-Aug-21 19:34:53

There’s a whole thread on this yes.

Ellianne Mon 02-Aug-21 19:35:06

Blossoming Mon 02-Aug-21 19:50:16

Claire’s are selling tiaras at 50% off! They even have a royal tiara. Guess where I’m going tomorrow?

Anniebach Mon 02-Aug-21 20:31:32

That’s so cruel Maddy

Have you chosen one Blossoming ?

maddyone Mon 02-Aug-21 22:28:29

It does appear very cruel Annie. Thanks for the heads up ladies, I’ll have a look at the other thread.

I don’t know if any of you watched Big Bang Theory but there’s a wonderful episode where Sheldon buys Amy a tiara as a present. She is so over the moon. I would be too. I bought a wonderful book about tiaras at the V&A.
