Welcome to Thread II!

We companionably mused, gossiped and waffled about Royalty, and vaguely related things for 1000 posts!

Starting with names; and ending on them them…
and in between covered everything from Adam Faith to Scottish Country Dancing!

So, as before, God Bless this Ship and All who Sail in her! ??

Well, we shall never know…..

sad
It does seem a pity that they don't get the gig when they are ripe and ready for it.
Nothing against Charles, but William and Catherine seem absolutely right for the role now.

Yes he may opt out and Charlotte may marry and move to another country.

If George doesn't want the job and retires to SA to produce ethical diamonds, how will the nation react shock

Accusations of lack of duty? Unfairness to his lovely parents?

It hasn't gone down well with the public for others who wanted out.

FannyCornforth Mon 12-Jul-21 09:40:44

Annie I didn't think of him dying young before.
I did think of the opting out thing.
I think that by the time that George's turn rolls around, there won't be so much a belief in 'destiny'.
It might be considered more of a job.
Especially with the potential rise of republicanism.

I've got to clear a few things up about Mr C's doings in SA.
He wants to make it clear that he paid for the gems, it was all above board (I've definitely got my doubts)
And they were not diamonds, they were emeralds.

FannyCornforth Mon 12-Jul-21 09:30:48

I've just been reading the 'William at the Football' thread, and I was going to respond to Alegrias' comment, but I'll do it here instead.

I've got a long held theory / prediction about Prince George.

I don't think that he will be king, or if he is, it will be short lived.
I think that Charlotte will be Queen, and a rather marvellous one.
It's just a feeling I've got.

Thank you Lucca! I hadn't heard of that website. I've been looking on Amazon, and I'm surprised how many there are.
The tiara wearing community must be larger than I previously thought.

Fanny

When I was out shopping for the first time with our new baby, a boy, (we already had a daughter), we saw an old neighbour who congratulated us and said “You’ve got a pigeon pair, you want to stop there”.

I’ve never forgotten his words. Two children were enough for us to bring up reasonably comfortably, healthy, one of each, what more could we want?

The saying apparently is old folk lore. Pigeons lay two eggs, a male and a female. I have no idea if it’s true, but it’s a nice idea.

?(I know this is not a pigeon).

Apparently older mothers are more likely to produce twins. I bet you didn’t know that! I didn’t, until last week. My daughter has twins, but she wasn’t an older mother.

Mollygo Sun 11-Jul-21 13:49:58

I still have the one I wore for my wedding. Not really valuable, except perhaps as a antique.

FannyCornforth Sun 11-Jul-21 13:47:17

I’m really hankering after a tiara now…

lemongrove Sun 11-Jul-21 13:44:10

Yes Fanny living in Lemongrove Manor I am required to look my best, but I only wear my tiaras ( not all at once) on two occasions.....on my birthday, and when it’s not my birthday.

FannyCornforth Sun 11-Jul-21 13:35:05

lemongrove

lemongrove Sun 11-Jul-21 13:33:52

The ‘award’ will make amusing chatter if Meghan produces twins next year.?

FannyCornforth Sun 11-Jul-21 13:33:11

Laura Mr C has a very similar background as your dad.
He was an engineer for Rio Tinto in Rhodesia in the sixties and early seventies. He was very naughty too!
However , his then wife had a very different moral compass to your mother; so likewise, we have no idea what happened to the gems either!

lemongrove Sun 11-Jul-21 13:32:12

Laura ? what was your Mother thinking?!
Remember the Paul Simon song Diamonds On The Soles Of My Shoes from his South African LP/CD ?
