Good day to you all from a hot and humid Algarve, not only that but someone has stolen my blue sky! I would suspect Grandmafrench but it sounds like there is sunshine to spare in her corner of the world. Anyone who wants a thick white blanket of cloud is welcome.

Yes we will be watching the match tonight. I didn’t see the 1966 one as I was out shopping for a dress for the afterparty that our football mad neighbours were holding. I did vaguely wonder why there were crowds of men round all the television shop windows intently studying the black and white TVs. We were more of a rugby household at the time.
I have very romantic memories of that party though.
DH watched and celebrated at the pub. shock and then went home to sleep off his celebrating. He only went to the party because his friends went and got him out of bed.
And the rest is history but as I told him the other day, “I could have been a WAG” as several professional footballers asked me out as well.grin

A late good morning from Burnham on Sea where our caravan is stored. It is quite dull at the moment. We are off to Weymouth tomorrow.

Only took 2 hours journey this morning as the M5 was fairly quiet for a change!

Meal out at 6pm, so we can be back to the van in time for the match.

Wishing you all a lovely Sunday.

Nannagarra Sun 11-Jul-21 11:59:04

Good morning from the Sefton coast where it is cloudy. Rain stopped [my] play yesterday. ☹️
We’re looking forward to the football this evening. For the previous game I served a lasagne I’d made, wore a white top and found I’d correctly predicted the final score. During tonight’s build up we’ll be eating roast chicken - should be beef, I know, but food from my country of origin is not desired atm. ??? My white top’s at the ready, the flag unfurled in keeping with previous matches. Superstitious or what?
?????????????????
The plant Grandmafrench makes me think of meadowsweet Filipendula ulmaria which smells fabulous imo. The flowers and leaves are similar however it is not a tree and isn’t planted in formal gardens. In fact it grows wild here. A gran with sound knowledge is needed!
Have a good one!

EkwaNimitee Sun 11-Jul-21 11:44:03

Don't hold your breath, LauraNorder, it's September before the sofa arrives!

Grandmafrench Sun 11-Jul-21 11:32:53

Oh no! Not the Shetland holiday - which you probably REALLY need now, Gelisa. Will keep doing the Anti-Covid Dance for you. x

Grandmafrench Sun 11-Jul-21 11:31:38

Oh, Laura - I got quite excited then. It’s driving me crazy - even my big Encyclopaedia of plants and trees and flowers doesn’t give any clues.

LauraNorder Sun 11-Jul-21 11:29:38

Fingers crossed ? for you Gelisajams.

LauraNorder Sun 11-Jul-21 11:26:35

Sorry, I swear the photo wasn’t there when I first read your post.

Grandmafrench Sun 11-Jul-21 11:25:15

Sorry, have tried and failed.
All who want a little dance, try Three Lions Laurel and Hardy Dance - It’s Coming Home. On YouTube.

Is it a Disappearing Cherry Grandmafrench

Gelisajams Sun 11-Jul-21 11:23:35

A late good morning from a damp Morecambe Bay. I haven’t read any posts yet and didn’t read until late yesterday. I hope Gingster had a lovely day.
One of the reasons for my late post is I didn’t wake up this morning having had a good nights sleep after the stresses of the holiday with DS2. I knew I’d need a holiday after 10 days with DS2. He only had a couple of meltdowns while we were away but it was very tense! The joys of an autistic son. I try to keep things as normal as possible for him.
DH and I were discussing what needed doing this week before we go to Shetland next week when DS1 sent a text to say DGD has Covid. We called for a cup of tea and a rest after we dropped DS2 off yesterday! Oh dear that’s us in isolation. We will take a proper test on Thursday then check daily with the lateral flow tests and hopefully we will be ok to go.
Take care and stay safe everyone.

Good Morning everyone from a blazingly sunshiney South of France.

So…..c’mon lovely people, start the day with a dance and let the good times roll. (It’s possibly today’s special offer, so you can’t refuse). (Little dance exercise for you provided separately!) If we all spread the pre-match good feeling, it might just work. You know, GranPower and all of that? I’m actually not a footie fan, only ever been to a couple of matches but did watch the 1966 match with great excitement on our black and white t.v. I can even remember the dress I was wearing! Bizarre. (The memory, not the dress!)

And my wish? Please, please, I hope that all the fans at the maybe most-watched Telly event in history, won’t think to boo the Anthems, won’t boo and whistle the other team, won’t fight, won’t jeer, and will try to show affection and pride and respect. Just show yourselves to be a great sporting nation and not a bunch of fighting drunks. Win or lose, the game’s the thing!

Help needed with this little tree. Before the flowers have gone, can any gardening Gran tell me the name? I thought it might be a Bird Cherry, but no. It smells nice, looks like a cross between Buddleia and Lilac, has lilac tree leaves, and appears at this time down here in gardens everywhere, especially formal public gardens. Does anyone here have a name for it? Non!

Loved your Golden Day stories, Gingster. Despite all - a great time was had by all. You need a group photograph with people wearing bandages, clutching brooms and buckets, fire extinguisher, etc., to jog the memory in future, perhaps?

??? is what I think of after your post, muse. Obviously time for a full engine service for you. Hope the leg is improving at least. Do you think that MrM was telling you, like Elvis, that ‘I don’t have a wooden heart’. ? ?

Lovely photos this morning. This side of the Channel - and more specifically at this house - we are hoping that euphoric pre-match excitement will turn into the greatest celebrations.

Whatever you’re all doing, please stay safe and enjoy your day.
Warm wishes and hugs to those in need. Thinking of you always, Panache. And, if you’re reading this - hugs to Urmston EV Taichinan and Pants and of course to Sheep and Cattle.

Good heavens, I really should check before posting. My dress has an elasticated neckline and a shirred bodice!

LauraNorder Sun 11-Jul-21 10:28:40

Good morning Mick and all from overcast and slightly breezy Anglesey.
Ever since you mentioned your Liverpool connection Alizarin I’ve been reading your name with a scouse accent, so many different sounds depending which syllable you stress.
Your reward for kindly sacrificing all the flowering sweet peas Esspee will be loads more flowers.
What a memorable anniversary party Gingster.
The sea green sofa sounds beautiful EkwaNimittee, hope we see a photo when it arrives.
Wishing you all happy holidays, jolly trips out, lovely lunches, good times whatever you may be doing.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 11-Jul-21 10:27:45

Morning Mick and all

Gingster what a day to remember!
Sar53 safe journey, I hope the M25 and A127 are kind to you and that you resist the temptation to make a stop at Bluewater!

Pottering this morning, then the 6yr old GS has requested a proper roast chicken dinner which includes pigs in blankets and copious amounts of stuffing balls. DD and family will be staying over to watch the match, GS school is allowing those pupils who have stayed up late to go in at 10.30 tomorrow.

COME ON ENGLAND ⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️

Keep safe and well folks ?

Georgesgran Sun 11-Jul-21 10:15:48

Good morning from Durham where it’s brightening up nicely. I’m not a gardener, but spent a couple of hours weeding/pruning yesterday and will do the same today - unfortunately, it doesn’t look any different after my efforts.
DD1 and DGS are self-isolating, so a solo day for me. Perhaps a little internet retail therapy later. Not sure if I’ll watch the footie or not.
Enjoy the rest of your day GNs.

muse Sun 11-Jul-21 10:05:41

?What a day Gingster.
Glad those smiles got you through?and all those mishaps didn't spoil the celebrations.
