Good Morning Everyone,
Its looking the like the start of a another hot balmy day here in Brackley this morning .
I noticed on weather map , we are just of the extreme heat area
. Did Bicester as usual yesterday but tried to spend thine under cover in cooler areas although was only hour there.
I also have started to look at coach trips , I noticed a advert in local banbury paper online , although I think the original organiser has now retired , the coach operator are doing trips on the same lines as in the past but a different booking option online.
Take Care,
Mick

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. A bright start in South Yorkshire with a light breeze - hope that stays around. GS is still abed. We took him swimming yesterday and it was very enjoyable. We were the first in the pool and it never got really busy all the time we were there, surprisingly. There seemed to be a lot of chlorine in the water though. We had a right old cloud burst and thunder after we got home, but after tea we managed to get a walk for some fresh air, watched a Star Wars film that I had missed at the cinema and played Uno. We have been asked if we would like to go to his football club open air picnic and awards ceremony this evening, but we will give it a miss - unless there is an “oldest most committed supporters” award; we might be in with a shout!?
Cleaning for me today, and some ironing if it cools down. Have a good day, folks.

Good morning all and it’s another sunny day. Yesterday turned cool again in late afternoon and was quite hazy out at sea.
I was going to order a pop up gazebo as we have no shade in our garden . Then I thought - we did have one but haven’t used it for about 10 years. I dug it out and it was in perfect condition . The trouble is it’s isn’t pop up. Never mind ! I took my time and successfully erected it while dh was busy strimming our wilderness. Just needed his help to put the legs on. Ta da!!!

We are afternoon tea-ing with our neighbour down the lane .
She’s so friendly and lovely but will be moving into the small town very soon. I shall miss her as our other neighbours aren’t so welcoming when we arrive here. They aren’t keen on second homers. It’s a shame as there aren’t many of us in this small hamlet. We’ve had this place for nearly 22 years. You would have thought they’d have got used to us.

Marydoll what a bargain you bagged! £1.50 for all that!

Sar a relief for your gd. ?

Alizirin good news about your hip and it will be good to get that knee done. What service! Well done NHS. ?

Phew it’s getting very warm now ?.
Must get into the garden for some sea air.

Have a lovely day everyone. Whatever you’re doing, ?

Hello everyone from the Lake District, we had a long drive from Stirling yesterday, and a longer one home today. This is the bed I am having early morning tea in! We stopped at Gretna Green, and there was a couple in full wedding regalia going into the Old Forge to get married, so we had to stop and watch. Met another couple who had done the same thing exactly 28 years ago, and were back to celebrate their anniversary there.

Our lovely cat sitters have been taking wonderful care of the garden and have promised us a surprise when we get back. He is a retired landscape gardener, so can't wait to see what he has been up to. They are staying on to care for cats while we are away for DH's surprise birthday trip, so needed to think of an excuse for him as to why they aren't leaving. Not able to start their next sit until Saturday is actually true, and he seems to have bought it!

Great news on the GD's wrist Sar, not so much for you Alizarin. Enjoy your meeting Ash.

Keep cool everyone, drink plenty and take care. Thoughts with those who have worries.

Gelisajams Wed 21-Jul-21 08:58:12

Good morning from a cloudy cold Shetland. I can’t believe I slept under a 13 tog duvet last night!
DH is getting worse! He has an important procedure to carry out one a fortnight since his op . He declared this morning he’s left his kit to do this at home! Today will involve trying to get a replacement sent here. Fortunately he’s due an order from the suppliers. Hopefully they can send it up here quickly.
Because of that and because DH was listening to cricket last night til bed night we still haven’t planned what we will do after he’s got his medical problems sorted.
Glad your GD has suffered nothing too serious sar
Take care everyone and stay safe ?

Gelisajams Wed 21-Jul-21 09:18:56

Phew, the lady at the medical supplier was most understanding and has arranged to send him his next kit here as a matter of urgency!
He needs it by next Tuesday but it should be here on Monday.
Now back to planning the day…..

GrannyGravy13 Wed 21-Jul-21 09:22:43

Morning Mick and all

We also had a thunderstorm with exceptionally heavy rain for about 50 minutes late yesterday afternoon, sun is out now and it’s heating up!

Good news regarding your GD Sar53

I am off to Lakeside Shopping Centre on my own shortly, looking forward to browsing without DH asking me what/why am I looking at ?

We went out to one of our local restaurants last night with the 6yr old, all the staff were wearing masks, and the majority of the customers wore them to walk to the tables. All beauticians and hairdressers were wearing masks when I had a manicure yesterday as was I, and local shops have polite signage asking people if customers would like to wear masks it would be appreciated.

Keep safe and well folks ?‍♀️?

Good morning all from sunny Lancashire, where it seems to be getting ever hotter. Mr. B is working on the garden today while I am sorting through some of my craft stash.

Hope everyone has a good day ??

Dogsmakemesmile Wed 21-Jul-21 09:55:47

Good morning everyone. Much cooler here than yesterday though I think the cloud may lift later. Another friend coming for coffee in the garden this morning. Will probably wear my sunhat again. Have prepared tea and cleared up the kitchen. Trying to keep the house as clutter free as possible. Realise how much non essential stuff I used to pop into my shopping basket prior to the pandemic and actually it had started to creep back in. Enjoying the digital subscription to the newspaper my son organised. And no paper to recycle.. Sending best wishes to all especially those in ill health or distress. Keep cool.

joyce6135 Wed 21-Jul-21 10:04:50

Good Morning from East Northants where it is cooler today after much welcomed thundery showers yesterday, no sun showing as yet. No plans for today other than starting a new book called Mix Tape which was recommended on another thread as a book club choice. Hope it lives up to the recommendations. Have a good day everyone, thinking of all the poorly people out there.

Grandmafrench Wed 21-Jul-21 10:05:16

Good Morning everyone from sunny South of ??

Think you have shocked all GMers with the duvet comment, Gelisa. It doesn’t take long to forget chilly nights once a heatwave overcomes everyone. Nothing worse than not being able to sleep due to heat. Hope that MrG’s emergency kit arrives very quickly.

Alizarin have they spotted that you may be planning a replacement (by stealth) of all your body parts in the near future? Or maybe you’re truly a Bionic Woman. You’re certainly very brave and positive - you should be the poster girl for that hospital!

Now…to the other and far more trivial extreme. My Dermatologist visit yesterday gave me a clean bill of health, but I wanted her to assess some annoying sun damage on my nose and treat a cherry angioma on a boob. I’m not in the least bit vain - having had a Mum who was. Very! But I honestly don’t want to have any more marks on the few bits of me that remain blemish free. So, let the good times roll. I braced myself as she blasted my nose with liquid nitrogen. You would have been entertained at my waving toes, which is what I do when something is painful and I really must not yell. After that ‘treat’ we moved to another theatre where she put protective goggles (total blackness) over my eyes, to meet the total stuffiness of my mask and then in short bursts I was allowed yet another fun few minutes of wild toe twirling to help relieve the darkness and the laser attack!

It was just above 40 degrees when I walked back to DH and the car, since we were inland and an hour from the sea. He had found a comfortable seat under a tree. We opened up the doors and boot and then sat under some huge mulberry trees at a pavement café, for me and the car to calm down.

Our dear Canadian friend’s widow is back in the village from Switzerland. This time with her DD and SiL, DS and DiL, 3 GC’s, 2 dogs and their Kitten. She told us it’s a happy travelling circus when they are all together. Her children still aren’t able to process their Father’s death. To date he lies in a mortuary in Canada, a Red List country with no idea when travel or normal life will re-start. No funeral arrangements, no family gathering, almost as if he has just disappeared from their lives. So yesterday morning she told us they had bought a fabulous tissue air balloon, and they wanted to write messages on it and send it off at twilight from his favourite beach in his memory….and would we come? We were so thrilled to share that.

To see the balloon lift off in just a faint breeze from a deserted beach, and the glow as it drifted out to sea was really moving, but it made us all feel so much better to be able to say our goodbyes in a place that made him happiest.

We had so much catching up to do and there was good coffee and chocolate brownies to eat back at their house, so I was a bit wired and didn’t go to bed until 2.30. I shall feel the call of a steamer chair and cushions in the garden this afternoon, or possibly better - since my nose needs to be out of the sun for 10 days! - a proper siesta in an air-conditioned bedroom after lunch. We could relax in the sitting room, but the full-on snoring of our dogs does spoil the mood a bit. ?

Have a really good day, dear peeps. And if it feels too hot to do stuff, that’s probably because it really is. Stay safe, stay calm, stay cool, hydrated, rested and, if necessary, stay somewhere with feet elevated and eyes closed. My Dermo says Factor 50 all over your faces, please! There, it’s not just me nagging you.

Hugs to all ????‍♀️

muse Wed 21-Jul-21 10:14:40

Good Morning Mick and all Morningsters?⛱

Solid blue Cornish sky. 23° in the shade and lots of dew on the grass, which I was going to slowly cut late last night but it was still too hot.

Sara53 Excellent new about your DGD. Hope the surf lessons go well. I have never tried but do still have a body board and my wetsuit.

grandMattie I do think broderie anglaise is a beautiful material. I'd love to see the finished top.

Scentia Agree wholeheartedly about the masks. We seem to have stepped back over a year with some thinking masks will stop them getting the virus. We had a small % in our main hospital with the virus who have had both doses!

Ashcombe Such a small world it is. I have been chatting on a new thread to me only to find that one lady, who lives on the other side of the world, used to live 10 mins away from me.

Alizarin Such excellent news on all fronts. Do you know how long you will have to wait for the knee op? It makes me feel positive about seeing the doctor about my left hip. I was told 5 years ago, when I had my right one replaced that the left would need doing soon. My wonky walk, whilst recovering from the fall, has aggravated that hip.

Jax Train news is sadly missed by me too? Farm news too ?
Hollysteers Long lunch? Red squirrel?

Mya was in very bad books yesterday. Workman , Phil, leaves his car rear door open during the day. Mya spotted his lunch box. Chewed her way into the box and enjoyed the sandwich he was leaving for mid afternoon snack. His lunch today is in our fridge.

I'm doing more sewing outside today. Just done an early wood walk with Mya who, always stops for a drinking of cool water from our spring fed stream.

MrM and Phil are under strict instructions to keep their hats on?. 20T of infill arrived at 7:00am and they are now busy with digger and dumper.

Gellisajams. Enjoy your day?. Hope the kit arrives on Monday.

??⛱???

Good Morning all from Muggy Harrogate - pleasantly coolish this am.
I slept in this morning! Getting to be a habit. I got up for the loo, went back to bed ready to do my exercises, but i flung myself at the bed and missed!! Feeling a bit sorry for myself now, am trying to keep moving so I don't stiffen up.
Yesterday went to my DGSs school concert. He was sitting in the choir, pulling faces at everyone, not doing much singing.
His dad was in the audience, when they finish, I was slightly disappointed that he ran to his dad, but glad that he is happy with him. We got home to receive our DGD who was tired after school and wanted to watch TV. We did a rehearsal for her egg and spoon race today, she dropped the egg, took the shell off and ate it!!
I've set my Roomba in the room she inhabited (and made a mess of) but it seems to be skirting her messes. I'll probably have to do it myself when the battery wears out!!
I have invited 2 friends to come this pm, yet to be seen whether they will make it.
Hope that bed is comfortable as well as glamourous B9exchange
Hope everyone has as comfortable day as possible

Nannytopsy Wed 21-Jul-21 10:39:05

Good morning Mick and all his followers. Light cloud but with some sun and warm here already. Enjoy planning your trips Mick. I am halfway through a self isolate and beginning to go stir crazy.
Watering is a must this morning as we laid a couple of rolls of turf yesterday, repairing patches of “lawn”.
Good news from your surgeon Alizarin - now on to the knee.
Time to get moving. I hope the day is kind to everyone

EkwaNimitee Wed 21-Jul-21 10:57:19

Good morning, Mick and everyone. Still baking hot here in Carlisle so I am continuing not exerting myself overmuch. I have had to go out and water the new turf yet again, the most boring garden job there is. The only 'gardening' I'm doing at the moment is researching tree nurseries (and gasping at some of the prices).
Your dog's antics made me smile, muse !
Have a good day all.

Gwenisgreat1 Wed 21-Jul-21 11:01:04

WOW!! that was some bargain Marydoll.
I'm glad your GD only had a sprain, Sar, painful but no further treatment.
Alizarin I believe I need knee replacements, but havent done anything about it, except ordered CBD oil to see if it will make a difference. I think I really need a youth transplant!!

Nannagarra Wed 21-Jul-21 11:06:39

Good morning from Sefton where it is currently 23C.
Mixed news for you Alizarin. You are one calm woman imo.
Such a sad life your BiL had, Marydoll. ?
Sar53, I hope your DGD feels better soon.
DGdog due to stay for the next 5 days as it is cooler here than at DS’s friend’s down south. I’ve missed both DGdogs (an 8 year old golden retriever and a 7 year old cockapoo) so much during the last 16 months. We used to look after these beautiful girls while their ‘dads’ were at work. Despite their opposite temperaments - g.r. is very chilled whereas the c. pings round the house at 300mph in excitement - they’re great pals. I’m looking forward to babying the g.r. once again. She loves it too.
Masks and screens are still in use here, thank goodness, though few wore masks when I went into Sainsbury’s near Liverpool city centre last week. Well ‘ards, unlike me, dear reader.
Take it easy, find some shade and a smile.
???

loopylindy Wed 21-Jul-21 12:14:20

ooh! Good luck with your knee op. Good job you don't live here in Torbay! I was due to have mine done just as lockdown started, so all elective surgery was stopped and despite the ups and downs of covid numbers here I'm still being bumped. Apparently Torbay/Devon is second from bottom on the Orthopedic lists. Just my luck.

madeleine45 Wed 21-Jul-21 13:32:30

not done this kind of message before so dont know all the abbreviations you use. Anyway I send you all greetings from Northallerton north Yorkshire. Hot but luckily a slight breeze which does make a difference. Due to back problems and other things dont sleep well anyway, so it can have a little benefit as got all my towels washed and on the line by 5.35am, and gave the garden a good watering and then put my chair outside and was able to just sit in the peace and quiet and coolness to enjoy the birds etc. Lived abroad for quite a while so I am used to quite a bit of heat and use all the little tricks to help me along. Of course doing any jobs as early as possible in the morning and then I have all windows open and blinds or curtains closed and by about 1030 am either sitting out somewhere in a shady area doing some gardening jobs, or inside with cold water or tonic from fridge. I use the little blue freezer oblongs that you put in lunch boxes or whatever . wrap them in plastic so not too wet and then in an old towel or something cotton. Brilliant to sit and put your feet on or do the same and have one on a worksurface if you are doing a job so that you can put your hands on for a cool down. Rinse out flannel in very cold water and put in plastic bag to have by your side to be able to use for head and hands. If you still have one knocking about fill hot water bottle with v cold water and a few ice cubes and lovely to have in bed to cool it down and put your feet or hands on again. Cool loose clothes , cotton or if y ou are lucky enough to have something real silk are the best and ladies , Ditch the bra! Nothing tight to keep you hot and sweaty. Then keeping cool indoors until an evening breeze picks up or it cools a little and you feel you have the energy to do the minimum important things. The rest can just wait. We dont get this sort of weather often so hope you all get a bit of a breeze to enjoy and ignore other jobs which can wait for a while. Enjoy your day

Grandmabatty Wed 21-Jul-21 14:05:38

Welcome Madeleine to Mick's good morning thread. That's lots of excellent advice to stay cool. Enjoy your day. I'm going to sit out for a while in the shade.

overthehill Wed 21-Jul-21 14:17:02

Good afternoon from hot and sticky London. Never joined in with this before although been on GN for years.
Had JS delivery this morning, cheerful driver told us how he loves the heat .....what!!
Anyone who's seen my recent post knows I'm suffering big time with injured back so finding it doubly difficult with that and heat to do anything.
We have friends popping in tomorrow for a couple of hours so need to push the Dyson round. Other than that, bit of exercise for the back also rest.
