Doing some family research in the Channel Isles and there Smith is a very uncommon name I was told.

My maiden name was Miller, not the reason for the dusty part of my used name I only realised that a couple of years ago. Anyone with my married surname is probably a relation.

My maiden name was Smith and my married name is very unusual but I won't out myself on here - you could say I went from the commonplace to the ridiculous!

Apart from a past school teacher I don't know anyone called Jones.

I don't know any now but in my childhood one set of neighbours was named Smith.

I’m so bored I looked up how common my very ordinary surname is. I always knew Smith was the commonest British name but I’ve never personally known an actual Smith. Where are all the Smiths?
