Definition of youth
1a : the time of life when one is young
especially : the period between childhood and maturity
b : the early period of existence, growth, or development

I have never really considered that “youth” was exclusive to young males. The youth offending service deals with both male and female offenders.

I don’t really feel that I should have to explain in plain language about my sexuality whenever I refer to my “wife” and I don’t think that my username leaves much doubt as to my being female.

MissC, we all know perfectly well what ‘one’s youth’ is, as you describe. References to ‘the youth of today’ or ‘youth offending service’ encompass young males and females. But ‘a youth’ is a young male.

It was an easy assumption to make if a poster has not read any of MissChatelaine's posts previously.

Absolutely agree Callistemon. I’ve read them (and crossed swords with her!) so I knew but not everyone would (as with the poster up thread) and I don’t think a username is a reliable guide to whether a poster is male or female, as MissC thinks.

Maybe gender identification at the start of each contribution would clarify for each post whether the poster was male or female. However I think that the majority of contributors would think this unnecessary and a waste of time.
I don’t see anyone starting a post with “as a heterosexual woman I think…..” so why on earth is the fact that I have a female sounding username, I have a wife make it so impossible for readers to understand that I am female. I’m certainly not going to start my posts with “as a lesbian grandmother…..”
maybe this is a topic for a new thread sometime.

This is quite a coincidence, my neighbour of 13yrs moved out about 4 weeks ago. My new neighbours moved in 2 weeks ago. A young couple in there early 30s with a little boy around 3yrs old also a young dog. We said Hello! and we made small talk and all seemed ideal. A week later at 11pm at night, he started shouting like a mad man swearing and banging stuff around, this went on for over an hour, eventually it went calm again. With these hot summer evenings they were sitting in the garden, as was I. He started shouting and bottles were clinking and he was obviously drunk. Eventually I had to go indoors it was so unpleasant. About midnight I was woken by a bright light flashing in my bedroom. I got out of bed to see what was happening and could see an ambulance outside next doors house. Then the guy from next door was being helped into the ambulance, he was hopping. I assumed he had had a bad fall. Not surprising if he was drunk. A few evenings later, while I sat watching TV I suddenly realised my house smelled of smoke, I was a bit concerned and went around checking all the electric plugs etc. It was so bad a started to cough and kept coughing. I was so worried I have never been a smoker and this didn't smell like normal cigarette smoke. I opened my back door hoping to clear the smell. I could smell it out the back in the garden and then realised it must be something like Cannabis. I have never smelt Cannabis, but guessed it was something of that sort. Sometime later it cleared. I mentioned this to a friend and she and her husband agreed this is what it probably was. It seems the police are not interested in this situation as there are thousands of people smoking this in there homes all the time and they can't do anything about it. I am 81, a widow ,with no family for hundreds of miles, and I'm told this is the times we are living in, get used to it. What a wonderful society Britain has become. A sweet little 3yr old is growing up in that household, what sort of example are his parents. These are private houses a nice neighbourhood, and this couple are smart and sophisticated on appearance. I guess I am old fashioned and this is the new world.

I ve never used it and don’t condone it in any way, I hate drugs, but it’s around us all in vast amounts, and once the genie is out the bottle you can’t put it back it may well be Illegal but nothing is done about it
When I m working on my allotment the smell of cannabis is so strong yet nearly all the allotments are middle to. older aged people ( mostly men but a few ladies) I don’t know who is smoking it but it’s certainly wafting around heavily

I recently interviewed a homeless man alongside the local authority homelessness worker. When she asked him if he uses any drugs he very confidently and unhesitatingly said, “No”. The LA worker started to ask the next question, but I interrupted and said, “Do you not smoke cannabis or use cocaine (our local ‘drugs of choice’)?” To which he replied, “Yes, but only like normal people do.” It turned out that he was a daily user of cannabis and a weekend user of cocaine, but he didn’t even regard this as ‘drug use’.

BlueBelle loads of people, middle aged and upwards use cannabis the hipsters of previous years! Cocaine is rife in all ages too.

Yes its a sign of the times Im afraid and I feel sorry for Scentia. Its a horrible smell and I can smell it when im out and about a lot lately. I am surprised at how many people do use it.

Of course Jaxjacky I realise that I was just trying to put it in perspective as a lot of people connect drugs with young people only

Would you be equally upset if they were just smoking ordinary tobacco OP? Because if it’s just the fact that it’s weed that you don’t like, then I think you’re being unreasonable.

How ridiculous. Ordinary tobacco is legal, cannabis is illegal.
