Tesco six-packs of bottled water - shortage?

We don’t have a Waitrose within 100+ miles so when I had the opportunity to go to one yesterday, I took it. The only gaps I noticed were in the cereal aisle but even there, it seemed that if the branded version was not available, their own brand was and vice versa.

I know that it was pretty well stocked overall because I spent so much, they gave me a bouquet of flowers as a freebie! ? ?

You know the tooth fairy has to pay more if one loses a tooth in Waitrose?
Better to do it in Aldis.

Well, you must have spent a lot because they're usually as tight as a duck's backside.

I have warned her not to lose teeth in Waitrose, all she would get would be a free Guardian.

Callistemon, I have a great freezer bag (QVC) which is meant to keep stuff hot or frozen for up to twelve hours.
I actually don't know if that is true, but the ice lollies and fake Cornettos I bought in Home Bargains, (brilliant shop) lasted more than an hour in it, in the hot sun today!

I now realise how fortunate I am: five smaller supermarkets, Asda, Iceland, Tesco, Co-op and Lidl no more than ten minutes away! Bigger versions of all, plus three M&S food stores, an Aldi and Waitrose, no more than twenty minutes away.

Oh, there's a Home Bargains there too but I didn't get that far.

We don't have an Asda, but that's where I shop online, as I'm not keen on sainsbury's and find morrisons a bit dear.

I allowed Dh to put some new tipples into the trolley, Callistemon. As I rarely get to Waitrose more than twice a year I like to think my spend evens out over the year.

We only have a small Tesco close by. To get anything else requires a 20 mile trip into town. I have been getting Sainburys deliveries for a while now and also shop in M&S if I go anywhere that has one. My local Coop, which is v small is surprisingly good, too.

Must say I’m another who doesn’t understand why anyone buys bottled water. Having drunk tap water in many parts of the U.K. I’ve never found any to be unpleasant, though admittedly the taste does vary.

Back in the early 80s we lived in the Abu Dhabi desert, where our water came in a bowser. It came out of the tap hot and brown. I had to filter it, boil it, and then keep it in jugs or bottles in the fridge.

When we came back to the U.K. for one summer break we were amazed to find that bottled water had suddenly become a fashion - when you could get clean, cold water straight out of the tap.

You have to hand it to the French, since it was largely them at first - whose marketing so successfully persuaded millions of Brits to buy something they didn’t need.

I don't know if M&S still sell it, but years ago (hark at the oldtimer!) M&S used to sell liquid soap in, well I don't know what they are called, but a bit like like those tall thin pump dispenser cylinders in which some toothpaste can be bought, and the soap was pink and rose scented.

If I remember correctly, there were four different types, various colours, various scents.

Ah well Witzend It sounds as though you wouldn't mind our extremely hard water, which tastes revolting at the best of times, and often has sand in it. Plain water is my "go to" drink and I thoroughly dislike the stuff which comes out of my taps.

You said you don't go out much so that is quite understandable.
And that's why we have deliveries too.

We had to go to town for something else.

But if you're determined to pick holes in everything I post, please carry on. It bothers me not a jot.

I'm not picking holes. I dislike supermarket shopping anyway. If I go out, I'd rather go somewhere enjoyable. I just get fed up with people who don't seem to realise that some people don't live within easy reach of shops and who have different lifestyles.

It doesn't bother me that much if a delivery is missing something because I adapt, but the thought of having to trail round a variety of shops to find a specific item seems like a waste of time. We've hopefully moved on from my grandmother's time, when the women seemed to spend most days going to a variety of shops - and that was their life.

My favourite water I can buy here is San Pellegrino, lightly sparkling from Italy. I’ve been to hotels in Italy where you have a water list as well as a wine list - the variety is unbelievable. I do drink tap water, but if I want a cold sparkling water instead of wine with a meal then why not.? It’s not essential, but neither is most of the stuff we buy in supermarkets.

Our little market town has a Tesco, not a large one but not an express one, a national co-op and a small local co-op, plus a small Herons. The nearest Waitrose, Asda, Morrison’s, Aldi, Lidl are half hour’s drive away. The local Facebook page is always moaning about the lack of a Lidl/Aldi.

Personally, I like to get my supermarket shopping done as quickly as possible. I realise that the A and L are cheaper, but the thought of having to just drive there in the time it takes me to shop locally, no thanks. Plus petrol of course.

ElderlyPerson, I have some of M&S rose scented soap in my home, ( I have a stash from the M&S outlet ) it is still available. Believe it or not, there is a shortage! Now that does concern me! ?

No, not a joke at all Bluebelle, I can guarantee there would be a national outcry if dishwasher tablets were unavailable. I’m guessing you’re not a cat owner, as if you were you’d know that some of them are exceptionally fussy. Yes, they might eat something they aren’t used to in desperation, but they would pester you mercilessly.

People can be very judgmental on here about things they don’t consider priorities themselves - that doesn’t mean other people, in this case OP are wrong, just that they see things differently. There have been a lot of unnecessarily harsh remarks on this thread.

Our water often smells very strongly of chlorine, more so at Bank holidays. . Awful. Not sure if it's because the crop growing area around is heavily treated with chemicals by farmers, so the run off needs to be cleaned.

I always drank tap water until I moved here. I use filtered water for tea and coffee. But my favourite drink is still water, so I buy bottles. I very rarely drink alcohol, I just enjoy water.

I remember the ‘four different scents’ things that M&S used to do.
There was a whole range; talc, bubble bath, hand cream etc
It was in the late 70s / early 80s.
Pink - Rose
White - Magnolia
Blue - Bluebell
Green - Fern

Sorry forget to answer the OP. I have weekly Asda deliver for heavy stuff. Last week unusually my water 6 pack was replaced by another make. So far, that's all. Let's see what today's delivery brings.

I can never understand the need for people to be unkind to other posters. As I have said before on GN, Walk a day in my shoes!. We do not know what is happening in a poster's life nor their circumstances and the effect of sneering remarks on their wellbeing.

I'm still suffering from the effects of a poster's, unfair remarks and public unkindness towards me, weeks ago. So much so that I only post rarely now.
You have to accept that you are fair game on the politics thread, but not on threads like this one.
