Well, what a surprise!

To see that Mawbe had posted a birthday message to me on Wednesday 4th August!

I had quite a few surprises that day!smile When Mr P opened the front door to let Oliver Sprout in (he was rather a soggy moggy, his own fault for for going out in the rain. He does it because he likes being rubbed dry!)

But I digress. Mr P said "I think you'd better come and have a look. So being in an affable sort of mood, I did.

Well, you could have knocked me down with a Tena Lady wrapper!

There was a cluster of balloons with helium numbers 6 &3 attached, a rather small balloon arch (handy if you were expecting a visit from a troop of little people, which I believe is the correct term to use, and a good hostess should always be ready to cater for all types of guest. None arrived though.confused ) and a beautiful plant.

Later a friend arrived with a delicious apple and almond tray bake, complete with candles and sparklers! grin, then another friend with flowers and champagne!

I had lots of cards (more than usual) and Mr P cooked a delicious mealsmile

It really was a fabulous birthday, which was great, because you see it will be my last.

I was diagnosed with terminal cancer back in mid December and despite the best efforts of all staff involved, the prognosis given during my last consultation in July, was that I had about 3 months sad

I won't bore you with details of the various treatments I had, but will reassure you that I'm still pottering about and enjoying what I do.smile

Please don't inundate me with PM's. I would feel that I had to respond to each one,and my time and energy have to be used carefully these days (quite interesting planning ones own funeral though wink ) but I will read any posts on this thread.

With love, and every good wish for a successful gammon at Christmas!

Lovely posts here for our phoenix.

Just thought you should know that she is not up to reading gn and hasn't been for a few days but she does know about everyone's lovely thoughts.

I’m another that missed this thread.

So very sad to hear your news Phoenix , I have enjoyed your posts over the years and will miss the giggles you’ve shared.

I’m hoping you’re feeling a bit better after having to cancel your belated celebrations.

Dearest Phoenix I was so sorry to hear you were unable to have your 'bit of an event' today and truly hope you're able to rally round enough to read all these lovely posts which show just how much you are thought of. Take care lovely lady flowers

Thinking of you Phoenix, there are a lot of kind posts on here, from many caring friends of yours. You have certainly reached out to lots of people, & touched all of our hearts.
Warm thoughts for you, flowers

Dear Phoenix how sad I was to read this thread. What a funny, kind and very popular person you are. Was it only three years ago that you did “brave the shave” on behalf of Macmillan Nurses? My heart goes out to you and your family- not forgetting Oliver Sprout and Minnie.?

grannysyb Sun 15-Aug-21 17:05:09

I don't post very often, but always enjoyed Phoenixs' posts, I had heard that she wasn't well, but didn't realise how seriously unwell she was. I wish her peace and love for the time she has left with Mr P and Oliversprout and Minnie.

Phoenix your posts made me laugh when I first joined Gransnet a few years ago. I was at a low point and you perked me up with your witty take on life and situations. You are a brave woman and I am glad you had such a lovely birthday.

Like others who were to have attended I’m feeling sad that our lovely Phoenix is not well enough to hold her ‘event’ after all.

My kind husband, who was to have been my chauffeur this afternoon, took me out for a meal instead and indulged me as I recounted some of the history we built up on GN over the years. We raised a glass to you dear Phoenix and although we laughed at some of your funnier stories, we remembered too the heartaches and difficulties you’ve endured with unfailing good humour.

Sending you very warm wishes old friend - and kind thoughts for your loved ones. ❤️‍?

Dear Phoenix, you truly are an inspirational lady. My heart goes out to you and, if I could, I would give you the gentlest of hugs. You are loved beyond measure. You are amazing. flowers in abundance.

Ixion, dimittuntur tibi.
I'm feeling a bit raw just now!

ixion Sun 15-Aug-21 16:25:44

Sorry Marydoll, I had a smile when I wrote this!
Too much Argy-Bargy-ing.
Sorry it didn't shine through the wording☹️.
Mea culpa?

Marydoll Sun 15-Aug-21 16:17:40

Ixion, what I meant was that I have seen people posting on this thread, who rarely post now.

Pittcity Sun 15-Aug-21 16:13:07

I've just had a go at Phoenix solitaire...addictive!

dustyangel Sun 15-Aug-21 16:04:50

Thankyou Doodle for showing me where to find this thread.

Dear Phoenix you have been such a brave lady for many years and you’re still showing so much bravery now. I’m adding my loving thoughts and thankyou for helping me and also making me laugh.

I shall rename Josephine Solitaire Phoenix Solitaire ?

It's so heartwarming to see so many of the old, original posters coming on here to honour our dear friend. A testimony to how much we cherish her.

Old, Marydoll, I certainly am, but not, sadly, original in any sense of the word. But I soon got to 'know' and actively seek out Phoenix's posts, which I have loved to read with a style of their very own!

You have bought joy and comfort here in equal measure to everyone who has been fortunate enough to meet you and for that, I thank you?

Doodle Sun 15-Aug-21 15:07:10

Yes me too. I am also heading off to see what Josephine solitaire is all about.

kittylester Sun 15-Aug-21 13:45:27

I thi k we all would, chewbacca. Now off to find Josephine Solitaire.

Chewbacca Sun 15-Aug-21 13:35:56

One of the things that I still hold Phoenix "responsible for" was a thread that she started some time ago about the difficulty in winning a game of Josephine solitaire! I'd never heard of it but followed the link that she provided and became hooked! Every time I play, I think of Phoenix. Without her sharing her quirky sense of the ridiculous things in life, I'd be the poorer. Cx
