Well, what a surprise!

To see that Mawbe had posted a birthday message to me on Wednesday 4th August!

I had quite a few surprises that day!smile When Mr P opened the front door to let Oliver Sprout in (he was rather a soggy moggy, his own fault for for going out in the rain. He does it because he likes being rubbed dry!)

But I digress. Mr P said "I think you'd better come and have a look. So being in an affable sort of mood, I did.

Well, you could have knocked me down with a Tena Lady wrapper!

There was a cluster of balloons with helium numbers 6 &3 attached, a rather small balloon arch (handy if you were expecting a visit from a troop of little people, which I believe is the correct term to use, and a good hostess should always be ready to cater for all types of guest. None arrived though.confused ) and a beautiful plant.

Later a friend arrived with a delicious apple and almond tray bake, complete with candles and sparklers! grin, then another friend with flowers and champagne!

I had lots of cards (more than usual) and Mr P cooked a delicious mealsmile

It really was a fabulous birthday, which was great, because you see it will be my last.

I was diagnosed with terminal cancer back in mid December and despite the best efforts of all staff involved, the prognosis given during my last consultation in July, was that I had about 3 months sad

I won't bore you with details of the various treatments I had, but will reassure you that I'm still pottering about and enjoying what I do.smile

Please don't inundate me with PM's. I would feel that I had to respond to each one,and my time and energy have to be used carefully these days (quite interesting planning ones own funeral though wink ) but I will read any posts on this thread.

With love, and every good wish for a successful gammon at Christmas!

Phoenix we have been on Gransnet a long time and over the years you have cheered me up with your funny stories, some of them so bizarre they had to be true.
I keep in my desk drawer, the poem you wrote for Kitty, and often look at it and chortle.
A virtual hug and hand holding from me, you are one special lady ?

V3ra Sat 07-Aug-21 09:18:19

Phoenix I'm another who has missed your wonderful posts recently and I'm so sorry to hear your news.
Hopefully the love and support from all your friends on here can help carry you through the months to come.
Love and best wishes to you and MrP xxx

Phoenix what a totally FABULOUS person you are xxx

Septimia Sat 07-Aug-21 09:11:03

Ha! phoenix, good choice of music. I hope they do dance - but not on your grave!

My FiL was carried out to "Lazybones" and there were good choices of in and out music at a recent funeral here.

I want to be carried out to a ceilidh band, and the bearers can jig their way out of the door with the congregation jigging and reeling behind them.

xx

Oh Phoenix thanks- I was initially so pleased to see that you were posting again; as one of my favourite GN posters I had missed your hilarious tales (and did enquire where you had got to); but was shocked and visibly upset to hear your sad news. I really admire how positive you are and still able to be amusing - what a star. Here's hoping that the 3 months stretches much longer.
Phoenix, none of us will be able to tackle cooking the blummin' huge Christmas ham without fond memories of you and your escapade ♥️ Take care and sending much love. Xxx

I’ve been around Gransnet for a few years now. I don’t say much but there are many regular folk, including you, whose posts have made me smile. Phoenix your humour and writing skill always made you stand out from the crowd. Now your honesty and courage are doing the same, keep on being the amazing woman that you are, much loved and appreciated. ❤️

Well - what a shock

I went from being so happy you were back to being so sad to hear your news. I have been on here for about 18 months and read far more than I have posted - about 10 things in total (must do better!)

But your funny warm words and ways made me feel I know you, you are truly inspirational dealing with "the hand you have been dealt"

You did make me laugh with the wigs - I did the same and got it cut at the hairdressers - then ditched it and bought scarves - much less itchy I found. Think my very outgoing BIL borrowed it for a fancy dress party - not seen it since!

Life can be so unfair (like now)
You have touched so many people with your lovely personality and you should not be having to deal with all this.

Wishing you good things - sending you love ,hugs & total respect xx

Phoenix, I don’t know you………. I just wish I did ??

phoenix Fri 06-Aug-21 23:50:35

Well, some of YOUR posts have brought a tear to MY eye! Enough of that old malarkey! smile

midgey wigs are quite boring really, and I forgot to mention that I get the local village hairdresser to trim them for me and cut a different fringe if necessary.

The expensive one from the company that the NHS refer you to is "Wheat Mist", actually a nice sort of honey blonde. The Amazon ones are a platinum blonde shoulder length bob with a fringe, a sort of feathery ash blonde highlighted thing (hard to describe) and a silver pixie cut one. I might post some photos at some point!

Septimia definitely some surprises at my funeral! grin starting with the bearers and the music they will be bringing me in to! Struggle with links on this tablet, but feel free to Google "Pata Pata" by Miriam Makebe. I defy anyone to keep still to it! I'm tempted to have on the order of service thingy to have printed "The congregation will now stand and dance"

I won't tell you what the bearers will be wearing, but they are 4 of my close girlfriends, 3 of them are fine with it, but the other one is the "you wear a navy suit to a funeral" type of person wink.

Nannylovesshopping Fri 06-Aug-21 23:13:33

I always think of you when I struggle with the gammon at Christmas, and always will. So sad for you and your family.

Grannynise Fri 06-Aug-21 22:24:35

I read much more than I post so you won't recognise my name Phoenix.
I've always loved your posts, so full of humour and so sensible. Your attitude to this new experience is both wonderful and exemplary.
Sending positive thoughts for what is to come.

JackyB Fri 06-Aug-21 22:23:00

Another one here who has a year in her eye.

I don't know what to say. Your posts have always been so distinctive and cleverly written. It was a joy to see them, they were immediately recognisable by the title!

I wish you a belated happy birthday. May the memories of it stay with you for a long time.
