Is it just me, or have you noticed that it’s a bit quiet around here of late?
Have we run out of stuff to talk about?
Feel free to talk about anything here…

grin at knowing who I mean! I've found him grin

FannyCornforth Thu 12-Aug-21 11:47:25

Jane I know exactly who you mean! He looked a bit like a knitting pattern model, and was a reporter on GMB.

JaneJudge Thu 12-Aug-21 11:41:03

no I have the wrong person blush

JaneJudge Thu 12-Aug-21 11:40:37

wasn't Andrew Castle on four in a bed?

Rosycheeks Thu 12-Aug-21 11:36:38

Yes Andrew Castle. He was moaning a lot about theaters being closed and I know a lot of people including me love the theatre but I think one of his daughters is working in that field and he went on and on about it.

FannyCornforth Thu 12-Aug-21 11:28:37

Yes, that’s him, he’s permanently in moaning mode now. He is like the Daily Mail personified (mind you, I quite like the DM).
He’s not the brightest either, never well informed.

Whatdayisit Thu 12-Aug-21 11:14:01

Is it Andrew Castle? He was always a bit wet years ago.

Rosycheeks Thu 12-Aug-21 11:12:17

Nick Abbot is good. Yes I agree they need easy going presenters at the weekend.

FannyCornforth Thu 12-Aug-21 11:05:24

Rachel Johnson isn’t a bad presenter at all.
I do agree that the weekend presenters aren’t up to much.
Andrew Whatsit (the ex tennis player) is dreadful, and David Lammy, although a decent enough chap, just has an awful presenting style and shouts far too much.
I really admire Majid Nawaz, but he’s a bit intense and shouty too.
They need to have more easy going presenters at the weekend.
Love Nick Abbot though!

FannyCornforth Thu 12-Aug-21 10:40:18

Rosy remember when Farage used to be on LBC? And Katie Hopkins?
Oddly enough, I quite enjoyed listening to both of them

Rosycheeks Thu 12-Aug-21 10:35:24

No im not Nigel Farage! That made me laugh.

FannyCornforth Thu 12-Aug-21 10:31:03

My husband's old university is doing face to face seminars and tutorials which are more important to be honest.
Loads of students don't even go to the lectures in the first place so now they'll all have them online and can catch up if they were just in bed or can re-watch them if they are particularly diligent.

When he was teaching the lecture theatres booked by time-tabling weren't actually big enough for the whole cohort in the first place and although he was one of the "better attended" lecturers he often had half-empty halls.

I think some lectures will be open to students if they want to be there as time goes by.
It's being billed as a big issue but I honestly don't think it will be when the new academic year actually starts up.

IMO it’s all important. Lectures as well and I cannot conceive of any reason to not start in October.

Brilliant!

But that is the best idea yet, a lecturer/DJ rapping away on a podium about quantum physics!

My husband reads stuff about quantum physics and gets excited by that sort of thing. To me the very words bore me to death. Horses for courses.

So - nightclubs are open but no face to face lectures for university students! Maybe they could do the lectures in nightclubs? Or put lights, beery carpets in lecture halls?

I was going to start a thread about nightclubs
