Spinster.

Makes me visualise a thin, grey-haired, timid, sad lady.

Very out dated for today’s hip young singletons.

What's the s word and m word.

The m-word is something that vegans do not eat.

Maltesters? But we do

welbeck Mon 09-Aug-21 19:38:53

milk !

JaneJudge Mon 09-Aug-21 19:39:41

Gill, the soundtrack is fine but shock the language
I know it was of its time though so was quite thankful in a way to watch an uncut version

welbeck Mon 09-Aug-21 19:39:52

sorry, i think most of us can work out what those words are, without having to specify, as some here find them unpleasant.

Hubby, hollibobs, hun.

Maybe I just don’t like the letter H grin

GillT57 Mon 09-Aug-21 20:10:48

Fair enough Jane. Do you specifically mean the family dinner with all the shouting and aggression and cussing? It is over the top!

Jaxjacky Mon 09-Aug-21 20:13:03

BlueBelle with you there and the phrase ‘ over the rainbow bridge’ makes me cringe.

Chewbacca Mon 09-Aug-21 20:38:38

Fur babies. Really grinds my gears to see animals referred to like this. And I judge those who do.

Marydoll Mon 09-Aug-21 20:46:35

Maw, odious, is a great word, it just sums up all that is hateful!

One I really dislike is when someone has died and people say he/she has passed. Passed what? An exam?

Doodledog Mon 09-Aug-21 20:55:47

I've said it before, but 'Uni' makes my teeth itch.

I also find 'purchased' instead of 'bought' unreasonably annoying. It's just so pompous, particularly when it's said about a bar of chocolate or something.

Grannybags Mon 09-Aug-21 20:57:18

Phlegm
Mucus
Hubby
Slacks (trousers)

I also dislike passed instead of died. And lost

MissAdventure Mon 09-Aug-21 20:58:24

Gifted.
Fur baby.
Hun.

i live in glasgow, i hate when a man refers to me as hen or doll, i don't mind the sweetheart or darling (one i use), they are not so keen when i say it back.
words i don't like.....snot, crap and going for a waz

ginny Mon 09-Aug-21 21:12:29

I very much dislike the word pregnant. It seems such an ugly word for something so incredible.

MoorlandMooner Mon 09-Aug-21 21:15:03

Swill - when used to mean have a wash. As in 'I'll have a quick swill before I go out.'

and

Custodian. Nobody every owns anything now, they're always 'Just a custodian'.

Borrheid55 Mon 09-Aug-21 21:18:23

So…. When asked a question, the person starts with ‘so’ ??

Marydoll Mon 09-Aug-21 21:23:43

Borrheid, I think you may be thinking of me, when we were at school! ?

Marydoll Mon 09-Aug-21 21:27:38

I don't mind hen, but don't like doll, its so common, just like me! ?

NotAGran55 Mon 09-Aug-21 21:37:07

I’m joining the hubby, hubster, hun , fur-baby club and adding movie.

Charleygirl5 Mon 09-Aug-21 22:02:47

I hate being called madam, I do not run a brothel.

I do not like being called hen or luv and especially darling if it is not somebody close to me. I am not their darling.

I agree Marydoll- I do not understand why the word "died" cannot be used because if somebody has passed- passed where?

Calpurnia Mon 09-Aug-21 22:17:25

Bonkers, kids (as in children) sanitary towels, guys.

I tend to use the phrase 'passed away' though not 'passed'.

Do those who dislike 'passed' feel that 'passed away' is the same, or is that more acceptable.

I don't like using the word for which 'passed away' is a euphemism, so I use 'passed away'.

Snog. Kissing should be gentle and romantic. Thee can be nothing romantic about a snog.

And 'cute'. Especially on Facebook.

Ooooo I love spinster. I claim it with pride and although I'm old, I'm fat and gobby.

I once referred to myself as a spinster of the parish to an English bloke abroad. He thought it was hilarious.

Lucca Mon 09-Aug-21 22:38:08

MawBe

“Moist” makes me shudder.
And, entirely unconnectedly “panties” ?‍??‍??‍??‍?

Oh lord me too.whenever we have cake and my bloke starts to say how good the cake is I glare at him and say “don’t say it!!”
