Spinster.

Makes me visualise a thin, grey-haired, timid, sad lady.

Very out dated for today’s hip young singletons.

“Moist” makes me shudder.
And, entirely unconnectedly “panties” ?‍??‍??‍??‍?

welbeck Mon 09-Aug-21 18:35:28

on MN, it's always, gusset !
is there a theme developing here...

Soroptimum Mon 09-Aug-21 18:36:51

Absolutely hate ‘belly’.

I dislike the s-word that the BBC seems to think is necessary in plays. I once started to watch a drama series around the topic of autism and part way through a man (not the autistic person) used the s-word. I was disgusted.

The s-word also seems to be in a lot of movies,. used to express annoyance. If I were in charge they would not get on television - but I'm not.

As a vegan, I avoid using a certain word and refer to it as the m-word.

Panties. envy <<not envy>>

EkwaNimitee Mon 09-Aug-21 18:41:12

Dribble and drool…the image of cows doing it turns my stomach

MawBe Mon 09-Aug-21 18:48:25

It’s not a word but LOL at the end of a statement, particularly one I didn’t actually find all that amusing, is a real irritant.
Unsurprisingly all sorts of “text speak” have the same effect.
I often wonder what people who write gr8 or * hun* do with all the time they have saved?

ElaineI Mon 09-Aug-21 18:49:31

What's the s word and m word.

MawBe Mon 09-Aug-21 18:53:36

Not M&S surely?
Now those letters are usually enough to start a thread! grin

MawBe Mon 09-Aug-21 18:58:01

I’m not too fond of odious I suppose because I know its origin is from odium/odiosus ( “hatred” ) there is an overlay of the word odour

Spinnaker Mon 09-Aug-21 18:59:24

Detest the word masticate - makes me feel sick.

BlueSky Mon 09-Aug-21 19:09:23

‘Panties’ I wonder why it makes my skin crawl while pants or knickers are OK?

Charleygirl5 Mon 09-Aug-21 19:11:48

MawBe you have hit the nail on the head- it is one of the words I also dislike. I would also add panties, LOL, belly, spinster, epileptic, Miss. I could go on.

GillT57 Mon 09-Aug-21 19:12:01

Riverwalk Mon 09-Aug-21 19:19:39

Lots of 'moists' on the baking threads e.g. a lovely moist lemon drizzle cake.

welbeck Mon 09-Aug-21 19:28:18

panty-hose, which is what americans call tights, the thin ones, i think.

What's the s word and m word.

The m-word is something that vegans do not eat.
