Do you like it, and does the icecream man come to your neck of the woods?

Lastly, what is your favourite flavour, please?

Love it in small portions, I usually ask for child's size scoop.
No ice cream truck here.

Favourite is probably butterscotch ripple, although in Maui I had a pineapple coconut that was heavenly. I also love an ice cream sandwich. Not sure if they have them in the UK. Vanilla ice cream between two chocolate biscuits.

Miss Adventure: we have lavender ice-cream here in the south of France, I don’t like it, and I LOVE ice-cream! No ice-cream vans here, sadly, I used to love hearing their chimes when I was a child. My mother used to give me sixpence, and I was always first in the queue for a 99 ( there was only vanilla at that time) This was in the late 1950’s in South Wales.

I love ice cream/ gelato. In the summer I have DH and I have one most days when sat watching TV. When out and about I love trying different and unusual flavours. My all time favourite was fig in Florence. The ice cream there is to die for. Also in Pisa I had a refreshing pink grapefruit sorbet if that can be counted. Other favourite flavours was rhubarb and custard in the Lakes and a yummy coconut in an ice cream parlour a few weeks ago in Llandudno.

Can't get past pralines & cream but I do have wonderful France for introducing me to the joy of sorbet many years ago.

MissAdventure Wed 11-Aug-21 21:51:44

Gill66
That's disappointing to hear.
We need tester pots of all these flavours, I think.

Love ice cream, hazelnut my favourite but hard to find. Had black cherry sorbet in France last time I was there and that was wonderful and finally about 20 years ago I came across Marzipan which I have never found since. Superb.
I really don’t like our usual strawberry chocolate or vanilla options. Very boring given the wonderful flavours around.
Ps Ferrero ice cream sounds really good ?.

MissAdventure Wed 11-Aug-21 21:54:39

Somebody gave me a nice Aldi choc ice a couple of weeks ago.
It was something like coconut, with an apricot type sauce in it, too.

MissAdventure Wed 11-Aug-21 21:58:10

It does sound lovely, doesn't it?
I actually took the plunge and was going to have the Ferrero a while back, but he had run out, so I went for my usual mint choc chip.

Morrison's salted caramel is delicious too Grannywannynanny. Same price. They were doing 2 packs for £1.50 a while back. I got as many in the freezer as I could.

Thanks for the tip off muse Now I know where to go when the shelf is bare in Tesco.

Ice creams my go to treat when I'm not feeling too well. For me it has to be Kelly's Clotted Cream Vanilla, I can't stand the smell of chocolate let alone the taste.

Our ice cream van is around every day no matter what the weather or the time of year. He blasts out half the neighbourhood with 'Football Crazy' to the point you can't hear yourself think.

Zennomore Thu 12-Aug-21 08:23:42

At a music festival in the 80’s an ice cream van arrived and my son aged around 5 shouted out “look Mum Mr Hippy ice cream” ?

Sarnia Thu 12-Aug-21 08:57:48

I can buy 3 Magnums from the ice cream man for £10.50 or a box of 4 from Tesco for £3.50. No brainer.

We were on holiday in what we thought was a ‘typical hill village’ in Cyprus.
On the first day an elderly lady came past with her herd of goats, followed shortly after by an ice cream van chiming Popeye.
The lady and her goats and the ice cream van came daily throughout our stay. Both unexpected; each brought a smile.

JaneJudge Thu 12-Aug-21 09:24:39

We have a few. They have regular arguments on our local facebook about their pitches which get quite heated

Blondiescot Thu 12-Aug-21 09:27:57

No ice cream van around here, but we do have one of the best ice cream shops in Scotland not all that far away. On a nice day, the queues outside are huge! I love their pistachio ice cream. I'm also a big fan of Turkish dondurma ice cream, which has a uniquely chewy texture. Sour cherry is my favourite flavour.

silverlining48 Thu 12-Aug-21 09:29:59

Sour cherry sounds great.

Does anyone remember the ice cream wars when pitches were literally fought over?

NotSpaghetti Thu 12-Aug-21 09:42:12

See janejudgeabove, Silver!

NotSpaghetti Thu 12-Aug-21 09:43:15

Oooh, yes, marydoll dulce de leche. ?

silverlining48 Thu 12-Aug-21 09:47:52

Yes, I was responding to JJ. In the 80s (I think ) there were actual fights about pitches. People got hurt .
At least they are only arguing on Facebook. It’s always been an issue.

timetogo2016 Thu 12-Aug-21 09:51:44

Yes i do like ice-cream and yes we have an ice-cream man pretty much the whole year round.
I prefer vanilla, especialy with hot homemade apple crumble.

henetha Thu 12-Aug-21 09:57:52

No ice cream man around here, sadly. I love ice cream.
Mostly vanilla, but I do like choc ices too.
Because I am borderline diabetic I often buy Frank's Dialicious.

seacliff Thu 12-Aug-21 10:04:42

Just as well we don't have an ice cream van here in the sticks. I love special ice cream not the ordinary stuff. Rum and raisin, and coffee flavour are favourites. There is an ice cream parlour in Southwold that does truly delicious but expensive ones, good for a treat.

Rosycheeks Thu 12-Aug-21 10:05:12

I can hear the ice cream man but he never comes to our road its too busy.
Rum and Raisin for me. Sainsburys used to do choc ice cream which I loved but they must have changed the recipe its not the same. I make my own with condensed milk thats lovely.

Esspee Thu 12-Aug-21 10:06:42

When we lived abroad on trips home every summer we stayed with my mum and dad.
There was an ice cream van which arrived every night after dinner playing music. We referred to him as the music man who came to play music for boys and girls before they went to bed.
Worked beautifully for many years until our eldest excitedly informed us that the music man sold ice cream!

Esspee Thu 12-Aug-21 10:09:44

Favourite flavour Tablet. (Only in Scotland I believe)
