‘Evening All’! ??

It feels nice to be back in your kitchen again Soop. My period of abstinence is over!

We are in Malaga, enjoying the glorious weather. It’s been wall-to-wall sunshine every day since we arrived at the end of July. Last week was particularly hot. ?August in Spain isn’t for the faint heated that’s for sure! I’ve spent most of today in my swimsuit (M&S promised ‘tummy control’ but to be honest, I think it’s had it’s work cut out) sitting under a parasol in our communal gardens, reading.

We are up for showers now. Well, Himself is in the shower, I’ve just poured myself a cold cava from the fridge as you do ...
?

Our daughter, son in law, the boy wonder (who is now 9y old) and l’il miss (4y) have been out here for 3 weeks. It’s been wonderful. The children love the gardens. Pool play gave endless hours of fun. They flew home yesterday. We have 3 more weeks. It seemed strange today not hearing l’il miss at my side saying “Grandma, can you put my arm bands on?”.

Hi Urmstongran, nice to see you back. Scotland at the moment is roasting hot but I will keep my swimsuit for elsewhere. I don't want to traumatise the neighbours.

Jaxjacky Wed 25-Aug-21 19:29:48

annesixty how lovely to see you here in the kitchen, the decorators we use are in doing our hall, stairs, landing and l room when we are away for 5 days in a few weeks. We trust them with a key, I booked them back in May.
Yia have a wonderful holiday, rest and relaxation are in order, I’ll look forward to your pictures.
An appointment ASAP would be preferable soop and about time too. Grandmabatty bet you’re chuffed with the tomatoes, you wait, no stopping you next year! Urms is back ??? hurrah! Not jealous, not jealous….pleased you enjoyed your family time.
I, unfortunately have an inkling why GF is leaving, I’m still a newbie after about 13 months, but it’s changed on certain threads that I won’t be contributing to. Fortunately we have this wondrous, safe kitchen haven, where we nurture and respect each other.
Have a kind evening everyone xx

Doodle Wed 25-Aug-21 19:56:36

I’m not going to comment on the whys and wherefores other than to say I have always enjoyed pleasant exchanges with grandmafrench and would be sorry to see her leave.
annsixty lovely to hear from you again. Upheaval at home is so tiring when you just want to sit and rest but hopefully you will be able to enjoy your newly decorated home.
muse you could have picked my rubbish up on the way too.?
I have never heard of a Horlicks cake. Does it come with a good night’s sleep guaranteed? Hope your DH overcomes yet another infection.
It’s been a long time since I’ve said this but I’m very pleased to say it today ? yoo hoo Urms lovely to have you back. ?
Thinking of you all ?

brook2704 Wed 25-Aug-21 19:58:34

Hello everyone, just stopping by after a really busy but lovely day
So very sorry to hear you’re leaving us *Grandmafrench - if you’re reading this please please reconsider ! You’re such a kind and supportive poster, I’ll definitely miss you and your tales of french France ???
I’ve had a good catch up with my friend today, we both did the Aqua class at the gym then had lunch at out, just at Starbucks but it was fine. After that I met DD2 and DGD at the park whilst DGS played footy. He was in a bit of trouble with his dad so didn’t linger there too much! Hopefully it’ll blow over as these things do
Lovely to see you back Urmstongran sounds like you’ve had lots of good family time ?
Have a lovely evening everyone, will pop back later

muse Wed 25-Aug-21 21:07:09

Hi Urmstongran A little bit late but I'm here with your cake as promised. Nigella Lawson's Malteaser cake - minus the malteasers. I ate those on the way home. Sorry. It's made with horlicks Doodle. In the cake and icing. ?

I wonder if it will tempt Grandmafrench. Hope so?

I will put the seats down next time and do a collective dump run Doodle and annsixty.

Hope the wait isn't too long for the operation. Have a great time celebrating all those birthdays YiaYia

Lovely see so many in the kitchen tonight ?. More stools needed soop. Bigger fridge too. Hug has been duly passed on to MrM.

Thank you for the kind messages about MrM.

Room on my hammock for another one TillyTrotter. ?I managed 1/2 hour in it today Blossoming.

As Jax says: Have a kind evening everyone xx

dragonfly46 Wed 25-Aug-21 21:19:31

Welcome back Urmston. You have been missed! Not at all ? of the sunshine you are enjoying!

Nannytopsy Wed 25-Aug-21 21:38:51

Welcome back into the arms of the kitchen Urms! What a shame that GrandmaFrench isn’t with us too.
All this talk of hot weather is making me a bit jealous - East Anglia is cool and dull. We are having the upstairs windows painted at the moment so they are all ajar all night - brrr!
There are an awful lot of weeds in our garden - why do they grow better than all the plants I buy??
Sleep tight everyone.

brook2704 Wed 25-Aug-21 21:53:53

Just popping quietly into the kitchen for a nightcap - it’s been a long day and pjs are on now - I think that Horlicks cake is just what’s needed
Just thinking of your DIL dragonfly try not to worry too much and hope she’s much better soon
Hope you have a lovely holiday yia and safe travels!
Hope that firecracker chicken tasted as good as it sounds BA - yummy!

brook2704 Wed 25-Aug-21 21:57:06

I’ve exactly the same problem with the weeds in our garden nannytopsy - they grow much better and faster than everything else ☹️

fatgran57 Wed 25-Aug-21 22:54:42

I have not posted on the kitchen thread before but I will do so now to ask GrandmaFrench to please not leave gransnet.

She really is the in the very top group of kind warm and truly caring posters and would be a very sad loss to us.

Something is very wrong if she feels she can no longer be among friends on here. She should not be made feel bad.

Please reconsider and perhaps post on this thread instead and others including myself will come over to here also.

Grandmafrench Wed 25-Aug-21 23:36:43

You are all so lovely - but I knew that already - so I don't really know what to say.
But thank you so very much and can you all now please stop because I promise I will think about continuing my membership of the wonderful Kitchen. Promise. I have received so many direct mails that I have been typing replies for two entire evenings now and it may be that posting in the Kitchen again will be the only way I'll get to give my poor fingers a rest! ?

Night night to you all, and sleep well lovely peeps. x
??‍♀️

brook2704 Thu 26-Aug-21 07:57:16

Grandmafrench ❤️

Mapleleaf Thu 26-Aug-21 09:10:46

Keep posting, Grandmafrench and on the GM thread, too. I love reading your posts, they are so cheering. ?

Mapleleaf Thu 26-Aug-21 09:12:20

I’ll issue the same plea to Marydoll, too.

lemongrove Thu 26-Aug-21 09:19:34

I wonder .....? GrandmaFrench didn’t you used to come round to the back door of The Argy flogging lavender bunches? Or was that somebody entirely different ( it could have been Soop she’s very enterprising that way) remember her rock buns Doodle ??
Anyway, hello all, and a special welcome back to Urms?
I have gone a bit green ( not with envy)?at the thought of horlicks cake, isn’t there a plain scone to be had in here?

annsixty Thu 26-Aug-21 09:35:19

I am green with you lemongrove
Any of those bedtime drinks were awful.
During the war when sweets were on ration, some of the manufacturers had the bright idea of making tablets, sold in small round tins, of their products.
I can only remember Ovaltine and Horlicks.
I could just about manage to eat the Ovaltine ones but not the Horlicks
I also remember cakes made with Allbran, equally disgusting.

Blossoming Thu 26-Aug-21 10:07:55

I used to eat Horlicks with a teaspoon, straight out of the jar grin

Dogsmakemesmile Thu 26-Aug-21 10:54:59

I still do that with peanut butter Blossoming...Lovely sunny morning. Elevenses coming up. Wash on and a bit of dusting accomplished. Take care everyone.

Jaxjacky Thu 26-Aug-21 11:05:50

Hi all, so far been very lazy, MrJ is off today, so we are lounging ?
Taking daughter and GC’s plus son, his GF and her daughter out to eat about 5’ish. Son and family moved yesterday, feels odd writing that, it seems he’s at last settling down, he has been a trial over the years, actually a flipping nightmare at times. We wanted to see them all before son et al go on holiday, then school starts.
Dogsmakemesmile and Blossoming I do that with the last few baked beans left in the tin.
Have a lovely day all.

Blossoming Thu 26-Aug-21 13:45:33

Good afternoon lovely Kitcheners. It’s a beautiful sunny day here and fortunately not as hot as in July. Jax I hope you and Mr. Jax enjoy some lazy time while you have the chance, enjoy the evening out with the family.

Mr. B and I have been for a walk on the moors not far from the village we used to live in. We used to spend long days rambling, in all kinds of weather. We are no longer so young or so fit, but we enjoyed a gentle walk and a sit in the sun and our picnic. Ready for a nap now!

Blossoming Thu 26-Aug-21 13:52:30

.

soop Thu 26-Aug-21 16:10:13

Welcome fatgran57 I echo your kind words. Many thanks. Please continue to call into the kitchen. the more the merrier.

soop Thu 26-Aug-21 16:25:41

Welcome back to the kitchen, Urmstongran. You sound very nicely settled and have obviously been enjoying the finer things in life.

Grandmabatty True! Scotland is basking in sunshine. I last wore a swimsuit some time around the beginning of the century. I looked passable. Now is not the time to repeat the experience. Almost everything of mine has taken a serious nose-dive. Ah well...I do have some fond memories.

muse I would love a lie down in your hammock. How many of us lot could fit in? Not many of us would find it easy to get out again. Me included. wink

lemongrove I slaved over a hot stove in order to bake those rock buns. As I suggested, they are best dunked for fifteen minutes in a cup of very hot tea. After which, there isn't much improvement. And the tea is undrinkable grin

Grandmabatty Thu 26-Aug-21 16:29:03

I've been doing a Soop today. I started tidying the garden and began pulling up unwanted green things that look like the stalks and leaves of lilies and are bulbs but haven't produced flowers in three years. They might be crocosmia? Anyway, once I started... It was cathartic. That, and weeding. The garden bin is now almost full and I have my eyes on another part of the garden for tomorrow. I only stopped because my dodgy thumb felt, well, dodgy. It has been cooler today and very pleasant outside. Washing done and dried and ironed too. There is no stopping this domestic goddess. Tomorrow I'm off to Hobbycraft to buy a gift for my son's girlfriend. Or as my mum calls it, "the make do and mend shop " She couldn't remember what it was called and came out with that! Chilli for tea. Enjoy your evening Kitcheners.
