Charleygirl5 back home, we had a mixture of good and bad . Only coming up to 20 months, a lockdown baby so socialising is high on the agenda (we have 2 lockdown GC)

Doodle Fri 27-Aug-21 20:21:43

Sorry, soop’s kitchen is not the place for this. Forget I said anything. All I know is that I will be sad if the two posters I’m thinking of don’t post again.

annsixty Fri 27-Aug-21 21:03:35

Evening all.
A bit late to say Happy Birthday to Urmstongran but I will say it anyway.
I am a bit sad tonight for the silliest reason.
I am just back from a meal out with my friend and neighbour.
We have to eat now at 6:30 because our digestion can’t tolerate eating later.
Because she likes a starter I had one and then a main course.
A couple (or three ) glasses of wine were taken and I have come home feeling quite ill.
At one time I would have had a G&T, three courses, half a bottle of wine, maybe a brandy and just felt really relaxed and mellow.
Those days are long gone and I am looking back partly with nostalgia and a smidgeon of regret.
At least I had those days so I have been very lucky.
A very good night and a peaceful and pain free one to you all.

It’s not silly annsixty as we get older, things change, it’s a right old bugger, but, if we’re lucky, we have as you say, lots to look back on. Glut of Gaviscon if you have some xx

GrannyGravy13 Fri 27-Aug-21 21:30:00

annsixty I know exactly what you mean, I love all food, partial to a nice glass of wine. Unfortunately my digestive system doesn’t always agree.

gillgran Fri 27-Aug-21 21:32:32

Rather late wishing Urmstongran a very happy birthday. Sounds as though you had a great day, "Many happy returns". cupcakewine.

annsixty, flowers.

Those carrots made me smile, NT (I live in one of the carrot counties...!!!)

Warm wishes to you all.

brook2704 Fri 27-Aug-21 21:41:43

Hope you have a good nights rest annsixty and you feel fine by the morning ?

Charleygirl5 Fri 27-Aug-21 22:59:26

GrannyGravy if the little mite is only 20 months he does not know any better when in a restaurant so I take it all back and please accept my apologies.

fatgran57 Sat 28-Aug-21 08:49:06

Hello to everyone and thank you for the kind welcome. Also thanks to those who responded re the PM I received.

Sadly this came from a long term member who unfortunately does not feel warmly towards me and has not for a couple of years.

However as Doodle rightly said further up the thread soop's kitchen is not the place for this so I will move on.

Hope everyone is having a good day - evening here in Tasmania, I haven't done anything much today but a good bludge never hurt anyone - that's my story and I'm sticking to it anyway grin

GrannyGravy13 Sat 28-Aug-21 08:56:07

Charleygirl5 no problem, it’s hard as he and our DS’s youngest have hardly been out, no baby clubs or play dates.

Dogsmakemesmile Sat 28-Aug-21 09:18:42

Good morning everyone and many thanks for the messages of goodwill and support regarding my recent (minor) health issues. Have been scootling around doing a bit of housework/rearranging. Could rearrange for Britain. Banana for breakfast as never hungry but feel I should have something. Setting off for a trip out soon. Perhaps Melrose or Kelso. I live surrounded by beautiful countryside so wherever we go we are spoilt by the scenery.

Dogsmakemesmile Sat 28-Aug-21 09:19:45

Apologies. I forgot to wish everyone a safe and contented day.

Grandmabatty Sat 28-Aug-21 10:06:05

Dogsmakemesmile I love Kelso. It's such a pretty town. The square is lovely, particularly when the market is on.

Grandmajean Sat 28-Aug-21 10:06:15

Dogsmakemesmile Melrose is one of my favourite towns. We had a holiday in a village called Gattonside and the walk into Melrose was stunning !

Good afternoon dear kitcheners. Bed change here this morning - something I never mind doing as I love getting between clean sheets/duvet at bedtime. So I stripped the bed and put it in a basket on the landing whilst I re-made the bed. In the meantime just look who had made himself at home!! And I just didn’t want to disturb dear old Duncan!! DD2 is coming this afternoon so I'm sure it will be something wedding-y she needs to do. One of our spare rooms has been renamed The Bridal Suite!! Will hopefully be listening to the football commentary at 3pm - maybe our first win of the season (not started well at all ?). Mr BA and I renewed our season tickets but not been to a match as yet - I'm maybe being a bit over-cautious but I just look at everyone packed in without masks and I'm not convinced it's safe. Hope everyone has a pleasant rest of the day and sending you all safe virtual hugs

soop Sat 28-Aug-21 15:11:55

The internet has only just been restored. I've been champing at the bit. At one point a message asked me did I want to play a game while I waited for connection. Guess what I shouted out...perhaps not. It was VERY rude. blush

Before I return for catch-up, I need to contact family and discuss plans for our forthcoming mini gathering.

Hellogirl1 Sat 28-Aug-21 15:28:03

It might have been a good game Soop, you might have won! Glad you`re back online xx
Duncan is like all cats, if it looks comfy, it`s for them, lol!

Good afternoon lovely Kitcheners. I meant to pop back in last night but I fell asleep and didn’t wake up until nearly lunchtime today. They say sleep is healing, so maybe I needed it. It’s absolutely beautiful weather here, I emptied the laundry basket, the washing machine did all the hard work and then I hung it all out on the line. Time for a nap now! TOYA, hope to be back this evening.

soop Sat 28-Aug-21 15:56:48

Right!

You may recall that I mentioned a certain spider before logging off yesterday. It, or a member of it's clan, dashed across the sitting room floor late last night. For the fourth time, Mr Soop used the tumbler and postcard to trap it and release it outside.

Long ago, I worked in a tiny shop in a village in Cornwall. Two ladies and a dog stood on the threshold of the doorway. One said, we can't come in. I explained that it was okay for her to bring the dog inside. No, she replied, I'm afraid of large spiders and you have one on your shoulder.
All hell let loose. I ran into the street in a state of near collapse. The gentleman who lived in the flat above the shop heard my screams. He went inside the shop with a torch and scrambled around on his hands and knees to reassure me that the creature was no longer there. After which, normal service more or less resumed. Heck!

Charleygirl5 Sat 28-Aug-21 16:01:12

Bladeannie Duncan does look very comfortable. Thank your lucky stars he hadn't decided to relax on the bed while you were attempting to pop a fresh duvet cover etc on. He is so handsome but I have a feeling he knows it.

soop like yourself I do not play games. I hope everything is up and running again.

I am feeling cold in August- what will I do when January arrives?

soop Sat 28-Aug-21 16:06:15

BladeAnnie All cat lovers understand that the animal has the God-given right to park wheresoever it wishes. grin

Dogsmakemesmile We also like Kelso. It has oodles of character.

Nannytopsy Sat 28-Aug-21 16:11:14

Fatgran I misunderstood your previous post about the PM you received. One or two of the gang have had bizarre messages from strangers hence the advice to report etc. I don’t think that applies in this case, from what you say.
I have lost my shopping urge! Went out with the intention to have a good mooch but I only got as far as the garden centre and supermarket. When it came to it, driving into town and parking was just too much bother.
I did get some good perennials at knockdown prices though! ?

soop Sat 28-Aug-21 16:17:46

Nannytopsy Two devoted carrots. It seems a shame to have to separate them.

Callistemon Your cake sounds amazing. What is the recipe, please?

BladeAnnie I rescue stranded worms. I once carried a slow- worm in my hand for as long as it took to get away from the road and re-house it on a grassy bank. No worries!

I shall not be commenting further on the matter of who said what to whom and why it has caused so much friction. The kitchen is for like-minded (kindly) people. End of. flowers

Callistemon Sat 28-Aug-21 16:26:06

soop there are several recipes varying slightly. Here's one I've used

allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/33416/courgette-and-lime-cake.aspx

I admit to buying a jar of Tesco Finest lime curd for the filling, but you could make your own (it's very simple when it's a virtual recipe grin)

Callistemon Sat 28-Aug-21 16:28:14

We first tried it at a café near here which was in lovely gardens but sadly now closed down and the gardens aren't open to the public either. Their cakes were different and delicious.
