Callistemon Thank you for the recipe. I shall pass it on to our pal who collects interesting recipes.

Afternoon All. Finally five minutes to sit down. I have read all the posts, honestly I have, just too much to comment, always afraid of missing someone out.

Trying to get on top of a long list of things that would be better done than undone in case the TKR does happen early September. You never know, it might or I might have a reprieve. Not sure which I am hoping for hmm.

Mr C fell asleep over the car handbook, he was trying to work out what a switch does that we’ve never seen the like of before. Now awake he’s made a cuppa and returned to the handbook. My guess is five minutes and he’ll be sleeping again. grin. Why is everything oh so complex these days?

Hope you are now spider-free soop, devious little things creep in far too silently for my liking. Off to do some dead heading, it always lifts my spirits. Hmm, now what does that say about me?

soop Sat 28-Aug-21 16:41:50

corner It says that you are an uncomplicated person. Someone who appreciates the benefits of being outdoors and attending to every day tasks in a world that can so often seem chaotic. sunshine

Away for today. It has been a leisurely day. I wish with all my heart that those who are living with famine, fear and terrible loss could share in my good fortune. We have so much to be grateful for.

Thank you for your company. The sun is shining. I wish you all a pleasant evening.

Here is last night's Kintyre sun setting.

TillyTrotter Sat 28-Aug-21 16:56:17

Hello ?. I feel exactly like you soop and count my blessings when I see the News on TV.
The setting sun photo is beautiful - possibly one of your best.
We have had sunshine all day and we’ve walked by the coast.
Enough steps taken that I can have a couple of G&T’s tonight without worrying about calories ?
BladeAnnie Duncan could sleep in my washing basket anytime. He adds a touch of glamour to wherever he lays his pretty head.
I would like to wish a Happy weekend to you all.

I have received my new Blue Badge in the post, for which I am very grateful. There are some places it would simply be impossible for me to go without it. I do hate filling in the form though. I understand they can’t just hand them out willy nilly but it makes me dwell on my difficulties and I prefer to concentrate on what I can do rather than what I can’t. Anyway, it’s done for another 3 years.

Mr. B is cooking pasta later, there is a bottle of Asti Spumante in the fridge, a retirement present from one of my lovely nephews. I was saving it until I recovered from Stevens Johnson Syndrome in 2020. However I never got round to opening it as we were then hit by the first lockdown! Today feels like the right time for some sparkles, I hope you will all join me in a glass. The pasta will probably be gone but I’m sure we can find some nibbles. We have oatcakes in the cupboard and a nice Red Leicester cheese in the pantry. Life’s too short to hoard wine grin

SueDonim Sat 28-Aug-21 18:34:40

Just checking into wave at everyone! Wave ? I’ve been run off my feet but things should calm down again from Monday for a few days. Take care, y’all! X

Nannytopsy Sat 28-Aug-21 18:49:17

It’s always good to drink sparkles Blossoming!
You do have some marvellous evening light soop, whether fine or stormy.
We are trying to choose the right colour for our rather dark hall, landing and stairs. The received wisdom is that light colours won’t create light, so go for a strong colour. Hmmm.
Suggestions on a postcard please!

GrannyGravy13 Sat 28-Aug-21 19:06:16

Nite Nite folks

GrandpaGravy is cooking (duck breasts with orange sauce) I am sipping a chilled white whilst sitting at the kitchen island (what a silly name) watching him.

‘Evening All’.

Another gorgeous day here in Malaga. I sat in the gardens (I took a photo at noon to share with you all but it won’t attach). Read and finished a Hilary Mantel autobiography that I bought on my Kindle. It was poignant but a bit too fey for me to stay engaged. Her Irish ancestry, Catholic catchecisms and ghostly wisps became somewhat tedious. Yet I loved her trilogy of novels Wolf Hall etc. She writes so brilliantly. This however left me underwhelmed. Ah well, I shall buy another book tomorrow.

I love your sunsets soop. I could sit at your window and just drink in that view. There’s definitely something holistic about living near water.

We are one hour ahead. Time for a G&T. Perhaps the Spanish ‘Gin Mare’ with Fevertree Mediterranean tonic, ice and a slice of orange? Cooking (I use the term loosely) at home tonight. It’s still very warm. I’m melting & we don’t have sun on our tiny balcony at this time of day either! A warm Spanish evening.

Till tomorrow lovely people. x

Grandmabatty Sat 28-Aug-21 19:22:06

Good evening Kitcheners. Urmstongran, I'm a big fan of Hilary Mantel but I agree with you about her autobiography. A bit too spooky for me. Grannygravy duck a l'orange is so tasty. Blossoming sparkly wine with cheese and crackers sounds perfect. There's no calories in bubbles either. Another beautiful sunset Soop
Today has been very warm and sunny. I had an unexpected visit from dd and dgs which was so nice. Some housework done and spaghetti Bolognese with homemade garlic bread for dinner. I'm too hot at the moment. It isn't often I can say that in Scotland at nearly September. Take care all.

brook2704 Sat 28-Aug-21 19:28:55

Just popping into the kitchen to wish everyone a lovely Saturday and rest of the weekend. For those lucky enough to have a bank holiday weekend I hope you enjoy it - up here Monday is just a normal day!
We’ve been busy again today, little madam DGD and I had a difference of opinion this morning as to whether or not she was going dancing. She loves going but because DH was taking her brother out then of course she wanted to go too. Anyhow after eventually getting her there she had a lovely time and came out full of giggles and laughter!
Meanwhile her brother was having a great time beating his grandad at the crazy golf .. ?
So tonight will be a quiet evening with a glass of chilled wine and a quick and easy pizza

Jaxjacky Sat 28-Aug-21 20:15:49

Hi all, I’m going to be brief as the GC’s are, DD at victorious festival Portsmouth. MrJ, aga Grabdad putting Fin to bed now, I’ve pulled pork for 10 to sort, people round tomorrow pm.
Duncan stolen the show, a view to never tire of soop, GC’s playing quoits…
Love you and leave you, sleep tight x

Jaxjacky Sat 28-Aug-21 20:16:32

Blimey, more haste……..?

Dogsmakemesmile Sun 29-Aug-21 10:13:06

Good morning kitcheners. Cool here which ddog prefers to heat. Have made dough for rye loaves and will make pizza dough later. Perhaps date and apple scones too. Love baking but have lost interest in cooking otherwise! Archers omnibus on as I do physio. Have listened to the Archers for over thirty years and it's a definite date every Sunday morning. Wishing everyone a restful and pleasant day.

fatgran57 Sun 29-Aug-21 11:11:51

Good evening from Tasmania.

Wet old day here, managed to go for a walk then did some cooking. Made some scones with a new brand of self raising flour and they were dreadful. I usually make very good scones but these will be fed to the birds over the next couple of days. I only hope the birds will be able to become airborne after eating them grin

The chocolate brownies and the raspberry coconut slices turned out nicely however.

Thank you to the gransnetters who messaged me re my problem PM - much appreciated and you were very astute regarding the identity of the sender.

It's nice to be on a thread where there is fun and kindness and I am glad to be posting again after a very long break.

Very kind regards to all.

Grandmabatty Sun 29-Aug-21 11:18:52

Hi kitcheners. It's damp here in Polmont. Not that cold though at 16°. I've had a walk to Aldi to buy rubber gloves. I hadn't realised that there was a hole in my last pair until my hands were in water. Shudder. I'm about to make a slow cooker stew with rump steak and sausages. Later I will drive to Stirling to pick up ds and his girlfriend to take them to Edinburgh airport for a few days away. The casserole will be ready on my return. In between I will potter about the house and do a bit of cross stitch. Enjoy your day all.

Jaxjacky Sun 29-Aug-21 11:39:58

Hi all, just dropped GC’s back to their Mum.
Callistemon I wonder if that cake recipe would work in a loaf tin? It sounds yum. cornergran I’m embarrassed to say my car is nearly a year old and I still don’t know half of the functions, not going very far it hasn’t seemed necessary. A project before we go away in a couple of weeks. brook MrJ took the GC’s to the driving range yesterday, they had great fun, maybe 9 holes next time, Imogen wants to drive a buggy!
Glad you’re reassured fatgran sounded very unnecessary.
Well my son, GF and her daughter made it to Cornwall, on the train. He sent me this picture late last night, rather lovely.
I have 10 for pulled pork in about two and a half hours, we’ll be in the garden, it’s dry and fair outside, enjoy your day whatever your plans x

Blossoming Sun 29-Aug-21 11:43:25

Good morning lovely Kitcheners, it’s a beautiful morning here so I emptied the laundry basket, filled the washer and it’s now all out on the line. That’s enough work for me!

I love rye bread dogs and nothing better than freshly baked, mmm.

There are are few streaks of fluffy cloud about but the forecast is good for this afternoon so we’ll probably have a walk around and see what’s happening at the Marina and the railway museum. They are running steam trains today.

annsixty Sun 29-Aug-21 11:45:59

Good morning all.
I do love to read about all your doings but have to say it makes me tired.
I feel I have done it all myself.
I am very under the weather just now, my meal out on Friday started it off, I feel that socialising is tiring after so long in the house and not mixing.
I have to buck up by Tuesday as I am going away for two nights with the neighbour I was out with on Friday.
We are both looking forward to it and I really don’t want to let her down.
She is almost 5 years younger than me and frankly lockdown hasn’t seen been a huge consideration with her social life!
I hope you are all experiencing nice weather for the bank holiday ,it was lovely here yesterday , not quite as warm today but ok.
Have the best day you can everyone, I am still resting in bed to hopefully improve.
No Sunday roast today though.

cornergran Sun 29-Aug-21 13:55:10

Hope the rest helps ann. Go gently on your break. I’m certain your friend would understand. It’s what friends do smile.

It looks as if we didn’t scare our prospective cleaner away and she’ll do some short term cleaning for us if needed. Nice woman, full of energy, it’s a huge relief to have it sorted. Mr C will have enough on his plate without worrying about a mucky bathroom.

We’re off to the garage with a list on Tuesday jax, a very kind woman there will explain all. The challenge will be remembering her patient explanations.

A couple of hours spent tidying the garden was enough activity for today. Roast beef later, Mr C’s favourite. I’ll enjoy the veg grin.

Be good everyone, take care.

Baggs Sun 29-Aug-21 14:19:08

Delivering left over cake (Victoria sponge with some cardamom thrown in and a friend's home-made jam in the middle). Good with cream. Also some oaty biscuits.

We had a bunch of people round to do some archery in the garden, which we weren't able to do last year cos covid. We usually have a few such events during the spring and autumn. It was pleasantly cooler than it has been here and autumnal enough to keep midges and clegs at bay.

I haven't shot for a while so did allright all things considered. I shoot barebow, i.e. for the uninitiated, without all the sights and other bow paraphernalia that some people like to use. Finding my inner Maid Marian ?

Charleygirl5 Sun 29-Aug-21 15:24:40

*cornergran8 would it be possible to record your conversation re the car so that you will have a better understanding?
I have returned having had lunch with an old friend. We had had two mouthfuls of the starter when the main course arrived and I had just placed my cutlery when the waitress was there to ask if we wanted dessert and/or coffee. Coffee for both of us and the bill arrived shortly after the coffee. No time for a leisurely chat. The parking there is superb, hence we keep returning. I am not at work, I need a tad longer than an hour for lunch.
TOYA

soop Sun 29-Aug-21 15:34:17

Baggs You have style. What's more, you cook 'licious cake.

Our computer refused to cooperate until a short time ago. More rude expletives. Far too grim to share with you lovely lot.

Sweetie Pie (feral cat) arrived for breakfast and lunch. Anyone would think that royalty had paid us a visit. Talk about bowing and scraping...

Yiayia4 Sun 29-Aug-21 16:03:18

Very impressed with the archery Baggs a real Maid Marion?
Rest up and get better soon Anne.?
