We've just heard, to our great relief, that GS1 has been safely evacuated from Kabul and is now in the UAE. We've been so worried but can now relax. He's only been in post for 6 months and had a year's full time tuition to learn the, language.

Marydoll Sun 15-Aug-21 19:53:57

So sorry to hear your news Susan. Please accept my condolences.

Grandmafrench Sun 15-Aug-21 19:48:06

Susan that’s heartbreaking. I so hoped things might start to improve after his move. Your poor DH and all of his family - my sympathy and condolences to you all. xx

Susan56 Sun 15-Aug-21 19:43:06

Just to let you know my lovely, gentle, dear father in law has died?

As you know we had an appointment to visit him tomorrow so sadly my husband did not get to see him to say goodbye.

We are heartbroken as you can imagine.

Jaxjacky Sun 15-Aug-21 19:08:59

corner thank you for the roses, life is so cruel.
Have a gentle evening all xx

TillyTrotter Sun 15-Aug-21 18:14:48

Doodle you are such a caring lady and you say just what a lot of us want to say but can’t put into words. ?

SueDonim Sun 15-Aug-21 18:11:37

Thank you for the welcome! It’s nice and cosy in here, isn’t it? Just as well, because where I live, the heavens have just opened and it’s teeming down, when it was sunny five minutes ago. The Great British Summer. grin

I’m looking forward to having a lie down, too. My very pregnant dd has been here with her 3yo this weekend and I’m now ‘zorsted’! My Dh and I have been taking part in monthly Covid testing research and today was the day for August. But he came at an ungodly early hour for us (we’re not early risers) so between that and the wee one, who we had sole charge of this afternoon, I feel like it’s bedtime already. Is it really only ten past six? confused

I was very shocked by Phoenix’s thread. When someone is so full of zest and cheerfulness it’s hard to understand how or why a vile disease can stopped. So cruel.

brook2704 Sun 15-Aug-21 17:46:52

A lovely post Doodle I can’t add anything more just to say I too have been thinking about phoenix a lot today, like many others have said she’s a beautiful inspirational lady with a lovely sense of humour

Doodle Sun 15-Aug-21 17:16:52

You are right corner. I’ve been thinking of Phoenix all day.
I’ve been on GN quite a while now and have loved all Phoenix’s tales and stories although I wasn’t here in the earlier years and therefore missed a lot of the story. I realise life has not been easy for Phoenix but her posts always radiated a wonderful humour and way of looking at the world that could always bring a smile.
I think we all feel a little quiet tonight. Beautiful roses. Thank you for sharing them.

cornergran Sun 15-Aug-21 17:09:53

I imagine Phoenix has been in everyone’s thoughts today. Inspirational is exactly the right word soop.

Scrumping round the garden I brought these roses indoors. The perfume is sublime. I find them restful. Just hope the image stays the right way up.

Look after yourselves everyone.

soop Sun 15-Aug-21 16:53:06

Yes, good friends are priceless.

Having read the post in which Phoenix has opened up her heart to Gransnetters, I feel unable to add anything more today. What a wonderful, inspirational lady she is. moon

TillyTrotter Sun 15-Aug-21 16:05:29

Your welcome meal for Baggs was marvellous soop - as was the cake she brought for you.
I bet you had a lot of fun. Friends are the best aren’t they?
A happy Sunday to all.

gillgran Sun 15-Aug-21 15:18:41

Great, another lovely, new kitchen.

Soop & Baggs, that spread yesterday sounds & looks delicious.

Warm wishes to you all.

soop Sun 15-Aug-21 14:28:48

A huge, warm welcome to SueDomin, we love having new friends join us in the kitchen. flowers

I now know what is happening in the life of Phoenix and am truly saddened and shocked to learn that she is extremely ill. I do not pray. I do however send my loving thoughts to her family and friends.

Today, I was meant to catching up with you lovely lot. We have had phone calls and visited the art show and blethered rather too long it seems. I'm well behind. We now need to return to the art show, being held in a nearby village as our own village hall is no longer fit for purpose.

Possibly, before the end of the afternoon, I shall have the time and space to read through the many messages that I've missed. smile

Blossoming Sun 15-Aug-21 11:41:21

Good morning Kitcheners, what’s cooking? I have had a lazy morning, tea in bed while reading and answering emails and messages. So sorry to see Phoenix has had to cancel her party. I will think of her every time I make a cheat’s chicken and ham (or turkey and gammon!) pie.

I’m up, showered and dressed now. Time to put away the summer frocks, unless that promised August heatwave finally arrives. I put on an old favourite Gudrun Sjoden dress this morning and I think I’ve shrunk in the shower! It seems longer than I remember and the sleeves cover my hands. It’s soft, comfortable and easy to put on as it has no zips or fastener so I shall pull the sleeves up and carry on. I sympathise Cornergran, one particular form has taxed me for day. Not just filling it in, but the amount of paperwork they wanted as supporting evidence. Passport, proof of address, etc. Anyway I finished it and sent it off yesterday, as you say a relief to have a task out of the way.

Bacon rolls and coffee for brunch in the Blossoming household. Enjoy your Sunday all, healing thoughts to those with troubles.

Kalu Sun 15-Aug-21 09:45:54

So sad to read Phoenix is terminally ill and won’t make her party today. Something she was so looking forward to. ?

cornergran Sun 15-Aug-21 08:10:08

Very sad for phoenix on what should have been the happiest of days.

Hello sued, pleased to see you here, always space for one more.

Last day of ping-isolation for me, been quite relaxed as PCR and lateral flow tests all negative. Today’s challenge will be completing the long and tedious form I’ve been ignoring for several weeks. Unreasonably pleased at the number of not urgent but better to be done tasks that are now history.

Take care everyone.

Susan56 Sun 15-Aug-21 07:51:23

Doodle thank you for letting us know about the thread Phoenix started on Friday.
Phoenix???

Susan56 Sun 15-Aug-21 07:48:43

Hellogirl, yes, I love the smell of homegrown tomatoes too.I am looking forward to DH’s garden soup?
Hope you are feeling better this morning.

Doodle Sun 15-Aug-21 00:38:24

Sorry that should read Friday 6th August. I was on holiday and missed it.

Doodle Sun 15-Aug-21 00:35:26

I have only just realised that Phoenix started a thread on Friday. Somehow I missed it completely.
It is titled What a surprise. Typical of Phoenix , she presents her sad news with her usual style of warmth and humour.
Praying for you as always and much love Phoenix

Grandmafrench Sat 14-Aug-21 23:32:06

Back again - or Rebonsoir, as we say here! Just wanted to say how thrilling to hear of your garden extension plan, Mattsmum, what a relief about your Son, so glad you're lovely friend left you something of meaning, pleased you are just letting the deposit scheme sort our the large sum owed to. you. (People are real rogues, aren't they?) Don't worry, you'll get it. Happier times ahead for you and lastly, are you aware that you have a beautiful fox rummaging through your belongings on that beach?! ?
Be happy.
GrandmaB you are probably lying down quite pooped after that wonderful food. Maybe you'll have to lie still - like a snake until you've digested it. Baggs what a banquet, hope you don't have to lie down as well. Hellogirl hopefully you've pulled something in your side, or been sitting awkwardly - or it could be indigestion. Hopefully lots better by morning.
Welcome SueDonim Hope you're mad enough for this thread. ?‍? I shall probably refer to you as "Sood" since we already have a Susan here. Hope that's o.k. I'm off to Google 'Dondi' and GO TO BED

Now, again, nighty night all you lovely folks and sweet dreams. x

Grandmabatty Sat 14-Aug-21 23:08:41

The food looks lovely Bags. Always room in the kitchen Suedonim. I'm lying down after paté and oatcakes, leek and potato soup, grilled sirloin steak and a toffee crunch cake. The meal was lovely. Mum enjoyed herself and my brother paid so a win all round! Hellogirl could it be indigestion? Take care. See you all in the kitchen tomorrow.

cornergran Sat 14-Aug-21 22:57:17
