Arachnophobia…

Just started a thread about this, could not post it and when I went back after refreshing it had just disappeared! So let’s try again.… A few months ago I moved my bedroom downstairs so that my son and his girlfriend could have my bedroom and use their bedroom as a lounge. I invested in some French doors and 1/2 is just a window with a skylight opening and the other half is an opening door, I am a bit concerned that the spiders might find it a bit easier to get to me now that I am downstairs so I have bought some peppermint oil That is mixed with water and liberally sprayed around the curtains, I have also put some oil on a piece of cotton wool and rub that round the frame of the window. I have had encounters with spiders in the past, once felt what I thought was a moth on my face, just nodding off and brushed it off and in the morning woke up to find a big spider about 3 inches from my face, also a blockage in my shower which I removed, being very shortsighted did not realise until I got out and looked in the sink where I had thrown it that it was again a big spider! Also I now never get into my bed since on getting into bed one night turning back the duvet there was a bloody great spider galloping up the bed and disappearing down the back of the headboard so now check pillows and duvet. As it is getting cooler I am sure they will be planning their route into my bedroom…??‍♀️??‍♀️?

By far the biggest spider I have ever found in my house was in the soap powder box. Whether it was just sheltering in there or was living in there and feeding on the enzymes in the powder and that's why it was no huge, who's to say? Soapy the Spider.

Just shows they can actually be anywhere…?‍♀️??‍♀️??‍♀️?‍♀️?

????? I do think that spraying peppermint oil mix with water around The curtains is doing some good also one of those electronic things plugged in my bedroom, so I still am not seeing many if any in the house at the moment but the garden is alive with them ??‍♀️

Shinamae It's started, I tell you. They're on their way. Be very afraid. Batten the hatches and plug the door gaps. ??

Shinamae Mon 04-Oct-21 14:13:44

Touchwood I am not seeing many at all…. Or is that sentence tempting Providence and spiders? ???????

Sweetpeasue Sun 03-Oct-21 14:18:46

Well it's happened! Fist of the year and it was a whopper. DH spotted it first and swiftly got a tissue while I trembled and went rigid at the same time whimpering oh no oh no I KNEW 'it' would start soon. Now fearing it's family will be coming out to look for it.

Large one trying to hide in a corner of the stairs yesterday, picked it up and escorted it from the premises.

I don’t mind spiders at all and make every effort to move them out of my way. Yesterday one crawled into my bathroom and started to make its way across the floor tiles. It got to one particular bit of pattern and stopped, then moved this way and that as if there was some invisible circular barrier stopping it going any further. This went on for a while before I got a piece of paper and moved it. Once out of its invisible circle, it scurried off under the vanity unit. Fascinating creatures!

I do when they're outside.
Once they come in though, it's a different story.
I cannot live with them inside the house; they have to go, and I've not found a different way to do it.

Hoover? Yes, they do come back out of the pipe.
Ultrasonic plug ins? Don't work.
Spider catcher from betterware? Chops their legs off as it slams shut.
Glass and paper? Tried that, broke the glass, wet my pants and cut my hand.

I take it you’re not a Buddhist ?

I don’t know why I put that!!!…..sorry..?

Or look at is another way SueDonim. If you have only one trundling around the bath, your arch enemy might have 5,999,999. smile

That’s a lot of stamping on them, Early! I need to get myself some bigger boots. ?

Don't read this if you are truly arachnophobic.

Some maths wizards calculated that there are some 26 quadrillion spiders in the world ... however many zeros that is.

Divide that by world population and apparently we have three million spiders each.

lemongrove Sat 02-Oct-21 23:28:04

After an initial rush of them, I haven’t seen one for a while now, it’s quiet....too quiet! As they say in the movies.

Shinamae Sat 02-Oct-21 23:21:02

No they will all have succumbed to trying to get in the house!! ???????

SueDonim Sat 02-Oct-21 22:50:44

Yikes! ? ? ?

The temps have dropped here - I hope they’ve all succumbed to hypothermia.

Shinamae Sat 02-Oct-21 22:25:22

Omg just saw a Brontosaurus of a spider out of the corner of my eye, then he ?????disappeared..?

SueDonim Wed 29-Sep-21 20:52:09

Nope, I couldn’t have that in my house.

There was a monster sitting next to the loo when I dashed in there the other evening. Luckily Dh was alert to my screams and came and disposed of it - down the loo! ? When are they going to STOP?

Shinamae Tue 28-Sep-21 22:06:30

Don’t laugh but my daughter in law has made a few of these to give to children at Halloween with sweets inside. I’ve asked her for one to keep in my lounge because hopefully if any real spiders see this big bugger they will think “wow I ain’t going in there”……???

SueDonim Sat 25-Sep-21 20:14:48

Electric or gas cooker - which works best? grin

MissAdventure Sat 25-Sep-21 17:12:09

grin
Oh, I've just seen that!
It's heavy work, heaving cookers around.

Millie22 Sat 25-Sep-21 17:11:00

I'm having to laugh that you put cookers ?

MissAdventure Sat 25-Sep-21 16:58:35

I haven't found that cookers work.
I just ended up with a flat full of conkers and spiders.

Millie22 Sat 25-Sep-21 16:17:50

Has anybody mentioned putting conkers in the corner of the room or spraying white vinegar. I use white vinegar for almost everything. Apologies if this has already been suggested. I have had to deal with 9 wasps today already so getting a bit fed up with them but no spiders ...yet.
