Why I like Retirement

Being able to do absolutely nothing all day!

Personally enjoyed setting the alarm so when it goes off I can switch it off, smile and turn over.
Enjoy bike rides and walks along country lanes and paths during the week when they are peaceful and quiet.

Not having to rush the dog walk first thing.
First thing being much later.
No sitting in traffic to/from work.
Not having to get washing/cleaning done at weekend ready for working week.
Being able to get on with jobs round the house(or not ?).
Deciding to do a job then find reading a book a better idea.
Actually not feeling guilty about spending a day doing nothing.
Having time to look after me?
I'm living retirement wish I could have done it years ago?

Pure freedom from stress and worries.This is what I was born for!

Similar thing here albertina but in my case it was following the party line in telling students how much better it was for them to go to Uni and be in debt for years and years, maybe the rest of their lives. It certainly was NOT true for all of them. Now I don't keep up with the latest dictats on education, how to raise children, or obey the health police. I'm even happy to not know what's in the news! I've become my DM!

I longed for retirement until my last job. Wonderful boss, lovely colleagues, great environment for nearly five years. I worked past retirement and ended on a high after years of being with bullies and backstabbers in the workplace.

Being a proper granny and helping my children. Time to try new crafts.

Not having the sick feeling on Sunday nights.
Being in charge of my own timetable.
Not having to rush to get out in the morning (and my lower digestive system is SO grateful and improved!).
Seeing my house and garden in daylight.
Not having to shoehorn all of my own life into 2 days (surely the work/life proportion is so wrong and one-sided?).
Having time for my 'real' life and all it holds.
Not having to do the jigsaw of having to fit in holiday dates around colleagues' time off.
Shedding the malicious behaviour of a particularly manager who made my last working tears a misery.
In short, I think I have spent all of my working life waiting for my retirement!

I retired this year. Didn't think I would like it, but turns out I think it's wonderful.
I have a small dog which was treated very badly by the people who had him before, so getting him back to normality and getting him to feel safer has been taking up some of my time.
I had not taught for 15 years since leaving teaching ( I took shop work after I left) but even now I am grateful on a Sunday night at 11pm that I am not still sitting at the kitchen table trying to work out what I would be doing over the next week following a National Curriculum I did not believe in.

No OFSTED.

No more pretending to be enthusiastic about work changes I know are a bad idea and will cause me /my team more hassle! Being my own boss at long last! No more is my life ruled by the clock- with not enough time for anything-work/home/family. A glorious vista of my own choices and enough time to do them properly!

Been retired 3 months now.
Can’t stand it any longer so taken on a new job

I know the feeling. I loved my job and was very sorry to leave it. Fortunately I have loads to do getting ready to move house once OH retires but once we've moved and settled I'll be looking for something to do.

I do like not having the long drive round the M25 every day and being able to get up when I feel like it. And I like that I have the time to do all the things I used to want to do but never had time for.

The shops are different places when everyone else is back at work. They're less crowded and people are friendlier. No rushing about after work to get the shopping then facing the rush hour traffic.
I had one if life's special moments just after I retired. I missed the traffic lights and was fuming. Suddenly I realised that there was no rush at all and the lights could stay red for ages and I would still be fine as I had all the time in the world.

Not having to squeeze all my appointments (haircut, massage, pedicure etc) in on a Saturday.

Love retirement to many things to love about it.But cold winter mornings, no scrapping ice of the car, dark cold mornings.Pad down make a cuppa and snuggle up in bed with the doh.Bliss!

Being able to wait for the frost on the windscreen to thaw with the winter sun. If not its too cold to go out

Getting up to feed the dogs and taking myself a cup of tea back to bed.

Often forgetting which day of the week it is. Can have friends around for lunch on a weekday. Getting up late, after having woken at 7.30 to give my dog her jab and then gone back to bed to read and fall asleep again.

Not having to get up at 05.00 to get the early train, to be at work for 7.30.

Not being answerable to anyone.
Saving money on petrol.
Read the news on-line with a cuppa in bed until i feel like.
Happy days.

Swimming 3x a week and never marking!
Lunching or coffeeing with friends.
Spending time with the GC.
Window shopping!
Gardening for pleasure.
Extended lunch breaks.
Afternoon nap if I fancy.
Afternoon delight if DH is lucky!!!
Lol.

Staying up late at night without worrying about having to get up early for work! I have turned into a night owl since I retired and regularly read in bed until 2am, then not waking up until 10ish.

Sitting in my pj's, drinking coffee, watching people go to work out of my window in the morning. As I'm watching breakfast tv thinking, I don't have to do that anymore.

No time constraints. Can do what I want when I want.
