We leave Italy with a car full of oil, Parmesan and pasta
France with wine, wood floor polish and mustard.

Just returned from Ireland with potatoes, beef and Ballymaloo relish.

What do you bring back from holiday?

Fridge Magnets , look for different ones .
Even on day trips to shows etc do same .
But if in Harrogate , buy tins of Harrogate toffee .

Enjoying reading all these. I am extremely materialistic blush and always brought nice things home from overseas.

My items ranged from chocolate biscuits to large pieces of china with everything else in between!

Will try to post a picture of a very large and heavy china cockatoo which accompanied us back to Tasmania from San Francisco in a backpack wrapped in OH's pyjamas.

Also a large and quite solid cat cushion from the Hermitage museum shop in St Petersburg. I love them both and I am looking at them now in my sitting room.

Perhaps some of you can post photos of your souvenirs I like seeing your pics!

Probably shouldn’t admit it but my husband is of the same mindset as your mum Mattsmum2 ?
He’s quite knowledgeable about plants and if something takes his fancy, out comes the penknife and after a quick look around him, takes a small cutting.

I of course then have to put it, suitably wrapped, in my bag!

I guess it’s nice to know my mums not the only one!

JenniferEccles Mon 23-Aug-21 11:21:16

The trouble is Mattsmum2 as he wants me to put it in my bag I am complicit ?

I can wander off and pretend he’s not with me but then I’ve got the evidence nestling in my bag!

Elspeth45 I buy key rings too sometimes - all our different keys for the house, garage, shed and cars have a different keyring attached so we always know which one we are taking off the key rack. We also know which of the spares we have lost! Some of them are beautifully enamelled.

Fridge magnets for me. When I had my kitchen done and the fridge disappeared behind a door so no longer magnetic, I painted a wall with magnetic paint as I missed the magnets. I used to collect mugs too but ran out of space. I am reminded of lovely places when I look at them.

I bought some lovely rings in Corfu a few years ago. Three Euros each. They are very pretty and often get admired. They haven't gone black either!

Fridge magnets, and I see that I'm not the only one! ?

Nannan2 Mon 23-Aug-21 12:35:07

Yes always a fridge magnet- we have them from loads of places now, inc. New York. Oh and often a tea towel too, if there's a particularly nice one.And always a small gift for people, mainly for GC.

An owl ornament to add to my collection.

Hand made textiles are my thing - scarves and small towels mainly - generally woven. Sometimes, of course, these are are out of my budget because of the time involved in the making. I do, however, bring home the memory of some stunning work.

I have twice brought home some rare dried beans of unusual varieties from small growers in the south and now I always bring home a kilo or so of hand-prepared capers from a particular farm.

Once, in Gozo, I bought some beautiful artisan made glass and I did buy leather from a tiny place in the outskirts of Florence. I do however bring treats back for the family but (probably like everyone grin) I feel that I'm particularly discerning!

Nannan2 Mon 23-Aug-21 12:39:46

Kate1949- i bought myself a lovely real gold ring in corfu- like a 'greek pattern'- its 14 carat and i wear it all the time, i never take it off. I think its been lucky for me.I think it was about 50 euros, maybe a bit less.

Sheilasue Mon 23-Aug-21 12:40:43

Suffolk honey, print of 3 pigs from a shop in framlinham.
We bought out daughter a little silver chain and what looks like a silver coffee bean for looking after our home and cat.

essjay Mon 23-Aug-21 12:42:45

keyrings and honey

Aepgirl Mon 23-Aug-21 12:43:39

If I bring anything home it’s usually food or drink. I’ve got enough junk and don’t want any more!

Nannan2 Mon 23-Aug-21 12:46:23

I thought we're not allowed to bring foodstuffs back from abroad after the big rule changes of what you can/can't bring in a few years ago.?Especially cheeses etc?...?

Blondiescot Mon 23-Aug-21 12:48:24

There are many things we're not 'supposed' to bring back into the UK, Nannan2, but that doesn't stop people doing it. Depends if they are willing to take the risk of being stopped...

Deedaa Mon 23-Aug-21 12:51:02

Big hunk of Parmigiano from a market, a whole salami, wine, Strega, Grappa, Tris coffee beans which I've never found outside Italy and Vialone Nano rice from the local mill. I don't know if we will be allowed to bring this stuff home post Brexit. I know that since Brexit Vialone Nano has been either unobtainable or astronomically expensive in this country so it would be nice to just go and get some.
