I love to read all the "good morning" mssgs and I'm usually up about same time but don't log on until about 9 ISH. It's funny isn't it that most of us I suspect spent upto 45 years working day in day out year in year out at jobs/careers and didn't think twice about what we were doing , we just did it , and that's what was done. Nowadays there seems to be almost a reluctance of the working gen. To actually stick at it no matter what. I know jobs are different now and certainly not for life anymore for the majority but all the Young's uns go on about is retiring early and how jealous they are of pensioners who they think for some reason have asset stripped everything and are living a life of luxury on massive pensions!!! We earned what we have , some not getting what they put in either, so I can't understand why we are all so maligned? Is it simply jealously or something deeper? Fear maybe that they will not be able to retire at all the way today's politicians are ruining everything? Worrying.

Good Morning Monday 23rd August 2021
(63 Posts)Good Morning Everyone,
Its a cloudy start here in brackley this morning.
Today , will see me have a quire day in with housework and laundry .
Back into my usual routine tomorrow as usual ,as to going out to places .
Take Care,
Mick
Sounds a lovely day ?leaf.
Nortsat and Greyduster, no plums last year but a glut this year, no rhyme nor reason. Good crop of damsons too, lots of jam this year, yum.
Good afternoon, everyone.
I'm very late joining in today as I've had quite a busy morning.
It's a beautiful day, pleasantly warm and sunny, so got some washing out on the line and another load is nearly ready, and did some garden jobs. Then my stomach told me it was lunchtime ?.
Thank you for all the congratulations yesterday - we had a nice day, pottering around, then a visit to a garden centre we haven't been to for some time to find that it's been smartened up with a nice new cafe area. We treated ourselves to a coffee and whilst drinking it there was a young woman singing. She had a lovely voice, so we lingered a bit longer just listening to her. Then we meandered around a bit more, buying bits for the garden (as you do ?), then we thought we'd better come home before we spent too much!
When we got home we opened a bottle of prosecco to celebrate our day and I made a nice meal for dinner, so it was a very relaxed enjoyable anniversary day.
Oh, that's such good news, Ashcombe - you must be getting very excited about seeing your DH very soon.
Welcome to the new posters.
Take care folks.
Thank you Maw for the tip about changing printer ink - I have downloaded the printer manual, so if that doesn't work I shall look on Utube.
Sorry a bit of a late Hello this morning, dull and a bit drizzly here in Oxfordshire so far.
Nothing much going on here today so pleased that some of you are out and about, I bet you are so excited Ash to see your DH. Wishing all those of you who aren’t feeling so chipper today hugs and good wishes.
I did have some good news from DD1, ‘mum I wasn’t arrested yesterday’ well that’s good to hear then.
Labyrinthitis is not funAshcombe but good that you've got a diagnosis and , hopefully , treatment.
Madeleine45I suffered from migraines from the age of 18 but they have been totally cured in the last ten years after being prescribed a blood pressure medication. The disappearance of the headaches was a bonus as they were completely unrelated to the rise in blood pressure ! Apparently this particular drug can cure migraines but obviously only prescribed for high blood pressure so I got a great bonus !
Bon voyage Ash ❤️
At last!
Susan56: so sorry to hear about your brother but his previous levels of fitness should help his recovery. So soon after the family bereavement too.
Just dropping in again to say I have a diagnosis and reassurance that I can still go to France later this week! I have labyrinthitis (I blame the Minotaur!), which is aggravated by loud noise, so no wonder I had to leave the performance early on Saturday night! My children (and DH) know I'm unwell if I pass up the chance to socialise in The Little Theatre bar!
With DH's bad back, we will be a good pair but being reunited will be wonderful after nearly 11months apart! ?
Reading through, I am moved by the warmth of messages from you lovely people. DH and I do appreciate the interest shown, especially when many of you are in worse positions.
? Thank you. ?
Good morning to everyone from north yorkshire. It is a changeable morning, quite grey and windy but every so often the sun shines through for a few minutes so hope it increases for the rest of the day. Woke up with migraine style headache and so have been creeping around with no radio or anything, but have improved a bit and so it will be a quiet day trying to clear up with the aid of the pick up grabber to be able to reach things on the floor as if I bend down not good. So anything improved will be a bonus. Should be going to a singing practise this evening but wont manage unless head improves. So will be satisfied if I can do a bit of tidying up and looking round to see what quiet jobs can be done. Hope everyone has a good day,
Good morning all. Still a bit of grey sky here in Glasgow but we have been promised sunny days this week with a high of 23 deg. Summer may not be over after all. ?
Hope you are on the mend soon Ash. You have both waited so long to be reunited. Fingers crossed you quickly get over the last hurdle for you to make your long awaited trip.
Being so fit will be in your brother’s favour for a good recovery Susan
I finished reading The Third Wife and having read a sample of The Missing Sister, I am intrigued to find out now if she is found. Trouble is, it won’t download to my kindle! No idea why it isn’t happening but I will give it another try today.
Welcome fatgran and Gymstagran.
Hope you are feeling a bit better today Marydoll and feel well enough to enjoy your planned trip.
Have a good day all and hopefully a better day for all with worries to cope with.
Good morning from a sunny north of Sclotland.
I am potting up strawberry runners today and will share them on the village Facebook page.
ashcombe. Take care. You don’t want to be “?late for a very important date?“.
Take care out and about everyone and have the best day you can.
Good morning, Mick and everyone from warm sunny Carlisle. So used to typing the words cool, grey, drizzly!
I did finally get out in the garden yesterday, more turf lifting. I wish I'd thought of asking the developer not to lay turf though I doubt they would have agreed. You can't have any alterations usually in case the sale falls through.
It's a day of housework and laundry plus I need to start re-organising stuff in the house so the men can get the new furniture in place. As they are putting things in 5 different rooms, it's not going to be easy. Much of my stuff is in boxes, unpacked or serving as shelving etc and I'm going to have to get them out of the way somewhere.
fatgran57 you sound as though you have even more things to sort than me. I have sorted and got rid of so much stuff already. I've forgotten what's in the unopened boxes which have been unopened for nearly a year now. They are mostly marked ornaments by the removal men but I know I never had that many ornaments. Can't wait to see what I actually do have!
Welcome to Gymstagran, I hope we hear more from you. And Ashcombe , hoping you have a speedy recovery so you can get away as planned. All the best to all of you poorly people and wishing you a better day.
Good morning from an overcast Durham. I have a little of most GNs going on today. House guest went yesterday, so a lot of cleaning/washing to do. Had a touch of Harri problem last week, but much better now. Some shopping is essential and might find something to relax my body and mind!
DGS is 10 weeks old and I’ve had a bank appointment for a month now to open him an account. Supposed to be 10.00 and I can’t find his birth certificate! (have cancelled) I’m furious with myself and searched absolutely everywhere but there’s no sign of it! DD has asked me to hang onto it after the appointment as I’m usually so careful with documents that they’ll feel happier if I keep a copy!! I’ll have to come clean - but I’m going for one more attempt to find it. So annoyed!
May your day be less fraught than mine. X
Good Morning Mick and All.
Do hope your virus can be sorted out Ashcombe ?
You’ve got your hands full this week Kitty.
I’ve got a sore throat so am gargling and sucking a cough sweet, there is no end to the excitement in my life. ?
PS my lovely friend in her late 90s has had her broken wrist set and a dynamic screw, whatever that is, put into her broken hip. They are getting her up and moving today. She is an absolute star ⭐️
Good morning all. It’s bright and sunny here in Lancashire. Mr. B and I had a very late night, so am just enjoying the morning cuppa.
Not much planned for today other than laundry and a walk around the marina.
Wishing you all the best day possible and some ease from any pain and worries.
Thanks everyone for your kind welcome remarks but should say that I am not new to gransnet just haven't posted for a longtime - read everyone's posts each day and enjoy them very much. some of you may remember the seaweed queen
Good Morning all from a chilly but dry Scottish Borders. I tried to have a sleep in because I was up very late last night and suddenly remembered it's bucket day so had to race out to the street and of course it was the wrong bucket. The recycle bin is always full but the general one rarely these days.
Welcome fargran or fatgran in Tasmania.
I read about the auction in Launceston and wish I could do a similar thinning out from our/my book collection.
DH was the collector and oh my! We have a library and walls of books. I doubt many are collectible.
Welcome to Gymstagran too.
The good morning thread full of joys and sorrows with a dollop of whimsy.
Hoping you all have a nice day.
Greyduster our plum tree is dripping with fruit this year. But it seems to do alternate years. I think ours is Czar.
Welcome newbies !
Hope your brother makes a good recoverySusan Always a shock when someone who seems fit and well has a heart attack.
Thinking of all the others on our thread who have pain and worries - hope your DIL is getting a treatment plan goingLauranorder My daughter had to have chemo before surgery too as the tumour was stuck to her chest wall. The team did move fast but , of course , that was pre Covid.
Sorry to read upthread of those in pain and of Susan56’s brother’s heart attack. May today bring relief and recovery for all.
Welcome Hill910 enjoy your bar meal and if your recovering from covid take things slowly regarding the chores.
Good morning from an overcast Durham. After recovering from covid (double jabbed too) I feel I need to get on top of my chores this week. So the Domestic Goddess routine will start very shortly whilst the first load of washing wizzes round. On a brighter note we’ve booked for a bar meal at teatime so looking forward to that later.
Grey but dry start to the day. Bed changing and laundering the highlight of today but not a lot else in view. Trying not to comment individually so as not to hurt anyone’s feeling but sending hope that Ash feels better soon.
Good morning Mick and his followers from sunny Sefton.
Had a laughter-filled, highly lively, fun-packed afternoon with the DGC yesterday. My goodness, Mr Busy likes his grub!
If you’re interested, The Coroner is filmed at Hope Cove, Devon, which is directly overlooked by The Cottage Hotel. It’s a marmite place: if you like it you’ll be hooked as I am.
My fingers are crossed for your speedy recovery Ashcombe. Thinking of you all (yes, the many I now ‘know’) and sending a cyber hug to warm your hearts.
