I’m glad to see Mastermind back on tv. Clive Myrie should be good as a quizmaster. He must be used to reading all sorts of things clearly. He grew up in Bolton. My next door neighbour said he was at school with her children till they moved here.

I am too smile

3 quizes in a row. Brilliant. I try to keep my brain active but am faar to slow at answering, especially Unichall.

I sometimes get a correct answer on Only Connect and I’m over the moon about it. I love Monday nights!

I sometimes don’t even understand the questions in Uni Chall, but it’s feels so good when I get something right. My favourite is the missing vowels round in OC.

MayBee70 Mon 23-Aug-21 20:15:18

No, I don’t understand the questions most of the time. Those map ones seem to be quite new. I find them a bit boring and also impossible to answer.

I like Clive Myrie, I thought he was good tonight. The contestants not so much.

I don't watch UC - Jeremy Paxman's delivery sounds so forced, strained.

Give me the soothing, mellifluous tones of Clive Myrie any day. smile

Three quizzes in a row - bliss. And I actually named all the plants in the picture round on University Challenge ?

NanKate Mon 23-Aug-21 22:00:50

I believe Clive Marie intended to be a barrister.

Yes, quizzes all the way on Monday evenings! Love it!

JackyB Tue 24-Aug-21 06:53:52

Yes, the plants question in UC was great, although I found the questions much harder this week. It was fun to see the contestants struggling with the embroidery stitches the other week!

I shall look out for Mastermind. There are some really wonderful people who upload University Challenge and Only Connect on to YouTube within minutes after transmission. Only way I can watch them here in Germany.

I only recently discovered that my sister hates quizzes. How can you not like quizzes?

Grandma70s Tue 24-Aug-21 07:16:18

A perfect Monday evening!

I have a friend who says she just can’t see the point of quizzes. She would be very good at them, too. I suppose the point is to test your own knowledge, and I always learn something from the answers I don’t know.

The Trinity team were excellent until faced with a picture of mistletoe. She thought it might be holly. The gaps in clever people’s knowledge can be astonishing. Perhaps she just had a blank moment on camera. I can’t believe anyone doesn’t know what holly looks like.

We love Monday evenings too!I think Richard Osman’s House of Games is back soon too?

Can't believe I forgot to watch Mastermind as I was looking forward to seeing it. Will have to watch on iplayer later. Love Only Connect, especially the missing vowels round! Also managed a few of the connections too. If I get 2 or 3 right in UC I'm quite pleased with myself. Managed 3 last night - identified all the plants!

Mollygo Tue 24-Aug-21 09:26:26

Granfromafar I got the plants too. It made me laugh when they said “Holly?” for the mistletoe.

winterwhite Tue 24-Aug-21 09:43:44

Extraordinary that they didn't recognise mistletoe or foxgloves!
Was that the Trinity team? They were extremely good anyway. Sometimes the questions are so long-winded and delivered so fast that I can't keep up with what is being asked.

He has Parkinson's which could be why he sounds a bit forced.

Dinahmo Tue 24-Aug-21 09:51:39

Do you think that it's just us oldies who like quizzes?

Welshwife Tue 24-Aug-21 10:19:23

I did quite well last night on UC - OC often leaves us amazed at how people see the connections and have such wide knowledge. Was Mastermind slightly shorter last night? I seem to remember the contestants elaborating a bit on themselves before answering the general knowledge round.

henetha Tue 24-Aug-21 10:20:22

I've recorded it to watch this evening. I love Mastermind no matter who the question master is, and also think Clive will be brilliant.

MayBee70 Tue 24-Aug-21 13:21:42

Does anyone one else really hope that, when someone loses five points they then come back and do well later on. I really feel for them.

fevertree Tue 24-Aug-21 13:24:58

Dinahmo I'm sorry he has Parkinsons. I've always found him to be strident though.

JackyB Tue 24-Aug-21 15:26:54

Actually Dinamho I think it is more a mentality thing than a generational thing. My DS1 and DiL love quizzes. I don't stand a chance against them. They both have PhDs.

I got 4 right last night - one which neither team could answer ?
But I've forgotten which one it was ???
