Kimski44 When I worked in the West End, I saw Shirley Bassey arriving in style at Tiffany's on Bond Street. Chauffeur opened the car door and she glided, very regally, into the shop. It made me laugh a bit. Still, I admire her for her talent and she has done very well coming from what I believe was a quite deprived background.
I also saw Dr Miriam Stoppard on Bond Street but for a second couldn't think who she was and assumed she was someone I knew. I said a cheery hello. She looked a bit perplexed, and then mumbled hello back. After she'd walked by, I realised who she was.
Also Terrence Stamp on Old Burlington Street. I exclaimed to two young women colleagues in my office that I had seen him and they looked at me blankly. Too young to know who he was.
