Kimski44 When I worked in the West End, I saw Shirley Bassey arriving in style at Tiffany's on Bond Street. Chauffeur opened the car door and she glided, very regally, into the shop. It made me laugh a bit. Still, I admire her for her talent and she has done very well coming from what I believe was a quite deprived background.

I also saw Dr Miriam Stoppard on Bond Street but for a second couldn't think who she was and assumed she was someone I knew. I said a cheery hello. She looked a bit perplexed, and then mumbled hello back. After she'd walked by, I realised who she was.

Also Terrence Stamp on Old Burlington Street. I exclaimed to two young women colleagues in my office that I had seen him and they looked at me blankly. Too young to know who he was.

Louise Minchin from BBC news. She seems a really fun normal person. So sorry to hear she’s leaving next week. Hope her shifts aren’t taken by Nagga!

Dolly Parton and Julie Walters I love their sense of humour.

In answer to JdotJ - I had the unpleasant experience of Norman Wisdom on a cruise ship. Very poor behaviour - 'don't you know who I am?'!!
Can't think of anything worse than most of the people mentioned - would prefer someone genuine like Nelson Mandela or the Dalai Larma.

Ferne Britton . I think she’s been great on 5 go fishing , very down to earth . She didn’t get all those presenting shows for nothing !!

Susan Calman - she seems down to earth with a lovely SOH
But then again, , Joanna Lumley but I would be in awe of her glamorous willowyness!

Susan Calman for me too, though I know she can be very straightforward so I'm sure she'd be a good sweary friend - someone you could let your hair down with...

I think most celebrities are just ordinary people like us but whose jobs put them in the public eye. I would probably like loads of them off camera particularly Alan Titchmarsh, who might even help me with my garden. I'm such a user! grin

I have been watching Emma Thompson on the late show and love her style. She’s my kind of person,

songstress60 Wed 08-Sept-21 13:13:28

Can't stand most celebrities as I think many of them are a bunch of egomaniacs. They spend all their time courting the limelight then when they make it they treat their fans like crap. I don't care how talented they are I don't want ANY of them as a friend.

Purplepoppies Wed 08-Sept-21 13:10:59

I love Miriam Margoyles too.
But my choice would be Kathy Burke. Very funny, very honest.
Im drawn to acerbic people I think. I don't have time for namby pamby lovey dovey. I like to know where I stand. If people don't like me I'm fine with that but don't pretend.

Michael Ball with the added bonus of singing for me just wonderful.

Dolly Parton , I just love her vibrancy & enthusiasm for life smile

Judge Judy Sheindlin. Seems very grounded and sensible. Saw her in interview recently with Ellen DeGeneres and she has a really nice personality.

Don’t know if this would be technically possible given that he’s not really into attachments, but I would love the Dalai Llama as my best friend. He just exudes love and kindness.

missdeke Wed 08-Sept-21 12:41:31

Stacey Solomon, so she could clean, tidy and organise for me. And although she comes across as a bit ditzy sometimes she actually is a bright, intelligent caring person.

fluttERBY123 Wed 08-Sept-21 12:40:46

Julian Clary and Nina Stibbe.

janipans Wed 08-Sept-21 12:39:22
