I’d love to have Miriam Margolyes ?

Amalegra if you haven't already heard it, do listen to the repeat of Desert Island Discs with Kathy Burke.( it's on BBC Sounds) She came across as such an honest and likeable person. She didn't have the best start in life but is totally without self-pity.
At one point in the programme she mentioned baby sitting for a friend and I actually felt a bit jealous of her friend!
So, definitely I would like her to be my best friend.

I would say Nigella. My admiration for this lady, cooking and constantly informing the viewer the whys and where for of what she is doing, knows no bounds.

Tom Bradby (ITV newsreader)
Adam Henson
Monty Don

I find Miriam Margoles funny and entertaining but wouldnt want her as a friend because she likes to eat a raw Spanish onion every day? and is an enthusiastic farter!
I would like James Nesbitt, Bob Warman (Central News) Ashley Roberts or the late Des O’Connor.

David Attenborough - amazing man who has led an amazing life

polnan Wed 08-Sept-21 11:26:58

Glad that I am the only one to want Alan Titchmarsh as my friend

I like him

sazz1 Wed 08-Sept-21 11:26:33

Paul O'Grady as he loves animals and is genuinely interested in the dogs at Battersea. He seems a very nice kind person.

I've met Lorraine Kelly and she was very nice. My daughter met Joanna Lumley once and she was extremely pleasant and kind.

Can I choose Jesus?

Dee1012 Wed 08-Sept-21 11:20:53

Billy Connolly -I adore him.

I'd also quite enjoy being friends with Idris Elba....blush

I have met quite a lot of celebs through the film and television industry and quite frankly was not impressed with most. The interesting people in that industry are the producers, directors and journalists. None of whom need to be famous to be good and interesting company. Two well known names were/are my friends (sadly one is deceased) and I mention no names here because they are my friends and not celebs to me.

One great friend is a relative of Claudia Winkelmann and the family hate her!! she is an absolute b---h.

If I had to chose from celebs I don't know, then the ones who appeal are

Anthony Hopkins and Jonathan Pryce, that wonderful film
'The Two Popes,
Grayson Perry
Monty Dom
Graham Norton
Judy Dench
Maggie Smith
David Hockney

Kathy Burke! I love her take on the world and how she shoots straight from the hip. She is also very funny! I really hope that she is like that in real life!

jennymolly Wed 08-Sept-21 11:13:58

Sandi Toksvig, Fern Britten, Grayson Perry and the late and much loved Robin Williams.

inishowen Wed 08-Sept-21 11:13:38

Sarah Moore, the presenter of Money for Nothing. I'd like to hang out with her because she's so creative.

timetogo2016 Wed 08-Sept-21 11:09:34

Ricky Gervais/Peter Kay/James Cordon but sadly i can`t have Sean Lock.
I like fun down to earth people who aren`t up them selves.

Buttercup1954 Wed 08-Sept-21 11:09:29

Susan Calman and Paul O'Grady. Need people with a sense of humour and a caring disposition.

LisaP Wed 08-Sept-21 11:08:16

Zoejory

Those two would be on my need to avoid!

We have no idea what these people are like in the real world. We think we know them but we don't. I actually know a TV name who is nothing like her TV persona so it's hard to say.

Bit if I had to say, I met Pete Burns many years ago and adored him. He would have been my choice. Had he still been alive/

My Sister in Law lived accross the street from Pete Burns in Nottinghill

gillyknits Wed 08-Sept-21 11:04:16

Judy Dench because she looks like she would be a good giggle. Paul O Grady because he’s so compassionate about people and animals.

Kimski44 Wed 08-Sept-21 11:01:23

Ha! I’ve met Shirley Bassey and I have to say she was fine with me but wouldn’t speak to anyone else. Not horrible as such but definitely a diva haha! And Norman Wisdom - my old friend and colleague married his son; she said he was alright but I did notice he hogged her limelight on her wedding day - jumping inanely into all her wedding photos (an early adopter of “photo bombing”!!)

Alioop Wed 08-Sept-21 11:01:04

I think it would have to be Tom Hanks. He comes across as such a nice guy, so funny and down to earth. If he doesn't want to be my friend then I'll join a couple of you other ladies fighting over a friendship with Paul O'Grady.

Missiseff Wed 08-Sept-21 10:59:59

Joanna Lumley!

allsortsofbags Wed 08-Sept-21 10:57:54

M0nica when I read your post out to DH he said "your description of MM was better than he could have put it".

He had the unfortunate experience of her as a passenger on a long haul flight, the cabin crew had a very difficult time with her. So may be your sense of MM isn't so far off.

Kimski44 Wed 08-Sept-21 10:57:50

Well, mine would definitely be Celia Morgan (Waldren) who is not exactly a celebrity but is married to Piers Morgan. Apart from that obvious slip-up, she is a superb writer and journalist, quite gossipy, grew up in France and is highly educated. From what I’ve seen of her, I think she would be a brilliant best friend as she seems quite discreet about a lot of things but always has something interesting to say and write about.
In my old job before retiring, I met a lot of celebrities. One of the nicest who stands out for best friend material is Cameron Diaz, the actress, who was very friendly and down-to-earth. Another was (many years ago) the singer Suzi Quattro who was really good fun and another down-to-earth person, who was a very nervous flyer.

Nigella, to show me how to cook properly and make lovely puds. She is already a sort of Twitter friend and usually replies to my inane tweets.

lightallan Wed 08-Sept-21 10:49:56

Do you mean Famous, Infamous or so called "Celebrity" of whom I now know so few. Keep on prattling though.
With all good wishes to you all.
