Angela Bassett, Maura Tierney and Parminder Nagra (big ER fan here).

Not quite on topic but years ago a friend of my late father's was a jazz musician who, for many years, worked in the 'pit' at the London Palladium in the 60s and 70s and rehearsed with many showbiz big names before they appeared on stage in their particular show 'on the night'.
He said two of the most unpleasant and nasty people he ever met during his time working there was (1) Shirley Bassey and (2) Norman Wisdom.
A total surprise as so many others have said over the years how wonderful they were (esp Norman).
It is called 'Show' business for a reason I suppose. No one shows their true colours when the spotlight is on them.
Apologies to any Bassey/Wisdom fans of which there are many I'm sure but suddenly gaining a showbiz friend may not get you what you expected.

Brenda Blethyn is lovely smile have you ever watched saving grace?

Eloethan Wed 08-Sept-21 00:18:23

Brenda Blethyn. I saw her interviewed once and she was so funny and not afraid to laugh at herself either.

Paul O'Grady for me as well, he is such a caring man.
I think Pam Ferris would be a good friend and great fun.

Not so much friends but would love to have met some of these and had dinner with them and a good chat.

David Bowie, intelligent, interesting.
Freddie Mercury, sensitive but fun.
Stephen Fry, erudite, charming.
Joan Collins - down to earth and fun,
Jack Nicoloson......(my late husbands doppelgänger, ?).
Joanna Lumley, intelligent, funny.
Alexander Armstrong, charming, fun.

Loads more.....

Love to have know Victoria Wood.
And I agree Greyson Perry he's amazing.

M0nica Tue 07-Sept-21 16:43:17

No, but I have experience of other people like that and I can see the ressemblances.

BawBee2 Tue 07-Sept-21 16:12:20

Miriam Margolyes always strikes me as one of those people who hide a bullying and unpleasant nature under a cloak of outrageous eccentricity
I certainly never formed that impression of her M0nica - do you have a closer acquaintance or other experience of her personality?

JaneJudge Tue 07-Sept-21 16:01:56

I've met Paul O'Grady briefly and he was a nice bloke. I always think he must have been a great social worker and they must miss him

Hellogirl1 Tue 07-Sept-21 16:01:26

to, not ton!

Hellogirl1 Tue 07-Sept-21 16:00:37

Paul O`Grady and Julian Clary for laughs, and Susan Calman seems very down ton earth, I think I`d like her if we met.

Bluebellwould Tue 07-Sept-21 15:51:21

I knew someone who worked with Miriam M and he said she was as mad as a box of frogs and she was constantly looking to disrupt the other actors. (Apparently).
I would like to invite Prince Harry so I could work out the truth of the things reported and then to give him my much valued advice ?

nadateturbe Tue 07-Sept-21 15:45:15

Lorraine Kelly. I've read her autobiography and she seems a genuinely nice person.

Redhead56 Tue 07-Sept-21 15:40:58

Janet Street Porter I admire her no messing directness.

Nortsat Tue 07-Sept-21 15:33:35

Emma Thompson

Sandi Toksvig

Jane Hill (BBC newsreader)

Prue Leith

Barack Obama / Michelle Obama

Alice Walker

Sara Paretsky

Redhead56 Tue 07-Sept-21 15:25:23

Tom Hardy is far too gorgeous to be a friend. Bob Mortimer would be good friend to have he is so funny and natural.

Callistemon Tue 07-Sept-21 15:04:48

None of the above except perhaps for Paul O'Grady or Bob Mortimer.
But I'd be prepared to give them both up for LauraNorder and JaneJudge.
I'm very generous.

Paul would probably want a date at Battersea Dogs' Home and I'd end up bringing another dog home and Bob would want me to stand in the middle of a freezing river with a fishing rod in my hands.

Still thinking ?

Shelflife Tue 07-Sept-21 14:41:22

I agree, unnecessary unkind and unforgivable!

BawBee2 Tue 07-Sept-21 14:16:11

Susan Calman - she seems down to earth with a lovely SOH
But then again, , Joanna Lumley but I would be in awe of her glamorous willowyness!

Lucca Tue 07-Sept-21 14:02:14

JaneJudge

Just the one Lucca? I'd call that winning grin

?. I did say “at least one”!

What you see of celebrities on TV is not who they are in real life it’s their work persona

I am fortunate that I have very good friends, some are household names most aren’t, the most important attributes for a friend are loyalty along with the ability to laugh at our faults and frailties
