In my case, Benidorm?

Singapore - where we were virtually kidnapped by a taxi driver who decided to drive us round and round for miles while his metre was running. Either he did not know where our destination was or he did but wanted to spin out the journey for as long as he could. Eventually he stopped at a traffic light and we got out.

It is sad that one rogue taxi driver can blight one's experience of a place.

Bakersfield, California.

Yes, Edinburgh is so grey...

Shelbel Mon 13-Sept-21 18:23:03

Orange free state in South Africa. It was many years ago but we were travelling through to Durban. Its a flat, scorched red earth place.

Gibraltar- because if I want Marks and Spencer’s and red post boxes I can get them at home in the UK.

Luckygirl I’m with you 100% about Edinburgh it’s grey, grey, cold and grey. Give me Glasgow any day.

Accident and Emergency departments, any of them anywhere.

Lagos closely followed by Entebbe. However, I agree with Skegness and Blackpool.

Billybob4491 Mon 13-Sept-21 17:47:25

Jaywick - no need to explain

I so agree that the Dominican Republic is a dreadful place, awful in every way, couldn’t wait to leave. I didn’t like Singapore at all, it was hot, humid and there only seemed to be noodles to eat in every restaurant, we actually ended up at a KFC because there was nothing else. Wouldn’t choose to return unless I was in a luxury hotel miles away from the middle.

I do feel I should defend Blackpool and Morecambe as I live quite near them and there are nice places away from the grotty bits. I also loved Barbados!

We had one of our best days ever in Istanbul. I'd booked a local guide and she took the six of us on a walking tour of the sights. Truly spectacular.

After lunch she offered to "read" my coffee cup grounds.
She foretold something that made absolutely no sense at all, but six months later, completely out of the blue, it all came true.

Unfortunately my husband and friend were making rather rude comments along the "Gypsy Rose Lee" lines and she cut the "reading" short.
I'd love to meet her again!

Blackpool, Mablethorpe and maybe surprisingly Corfu. Had a disastrous holiday there about 20 years ago.

Artaylar Mon 13-Sept-21 17:17:22

In the UK - Barrow in Furness. I found it to be utterly depressing.

Abroad - Kissimmee in Florida. It was a load of old tat, and you couldnt walk anywhere.

Now, the Gulf Coast in Florida - another matter and I would go back there in a heartbeat.

I went to Bridlington this summer and it was lovely. The beach was clean and huge. It was great for the grandchildren . Also we visited very nice gardens nearby .

Luckygirl Mon 13-Sept-21 17:13:40

Edinburgh - ducks below parapet!

Grey, grey, grey - the streets, the houses, the sky - just plain grey.

MissAdventure Mon 13-Sept-21 17:11:19

Marmaris for me, too, although it was years ago.

Oh, the men were an absolute pain in the neck.

I thought Bulgaria was a lovely country. Luxurious hotels, beautiful beaches and SO cheap. However, the people were quite scary.

theworriedwell Mon 13-Sept-21 16:55:46

Chewbacca

Bulgaria. It's the only place I've offered to pay double for a flight to get out of early.

That does sound bad.

What if you inadvertently say this to someone who lives in one of these places? How do you worm your way out of it?

We live in Southend. We’ve heard it all ?

On the subject of Tunisia we were on a table with 2 single girls.
They asked if they could come out with us. They were having a terrible time.

theworriedwell Mon 13-Sept-21 16:54:42

I've only been to Skegness once. We stayed in a hotel right at the end of the beach, it had a golf course. The beach by the hotel was very quiet, the hotel was nice and the food was good. I actually had a very relaxing time but maybe different if you are in the middle of the town. I can't remember what the hotel was called.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 13-Sept-21 16:54:16

Pattaya Thailand, full of dirty old European men fawning over young Thai girls, disgusting.

Other places in Thailand are beautiful as are the people.

Neen Mon 13-Sept-21 16:50:57

I don't really have a bad place but wouldn't go again unless for a loved one to Skegness.

DiscoDancer1975 Mon 13-Sept-21 16:47:58

Another one for the Isle of Wight. Not so much the place, although I find it oppressive, but bad things have always happened there, so now it’s by association.

Nannarose Mon 13-Sept-21 16:43:06

I am hoping that I am not violating any guidelines by posting this. I have only been to Morocco once and stayed in a lovely guest house run by CECU ecotours, who promote responsible tourism. As we went round the town there was no hassle, but kindness from people. Their welcome just made me want to put another point of view.

Before lockdown I used to like driving to IKEA, an hour or so away from here, and having lunch in their restaurant. It is all shut now. Always used to get serviettes there .

I enjoy IKEA, had a nice meal in their restaurant a month ago, Sheffield, and their serviettes are the best, large, soft. The ones from Tesco feel like your wiping your mouth on a piece of cardboard ?
