In my case, Benidorm?

Corsica - unless you are fluent in French and even then you can have problems

Pisa - total rip off, the tower is surrounded by stalls selling cheap tourist rubbish at sky high prices and you have to pay to go into the church (not a donation - an entry fee)

Rhyl. My mum and I dubbed it ‘Rotten Rhyl’ after a weekend there - admittedly years ago. It might be nicer now of course but I don’t plan to check!

I’ve enjoyed most places we’ve been to, and quite a few are on this list. But there are loads that only warranted one visit.

If it comes down to one place, I’d say Los Angeles. We spent three days there and it was two too many.

Dubai - nothing to see, just high rise buildings and huge 8 lane motorways.
Luxor, Egypt - a hovel, and constantly harassed by shop keepers (though absolutely loved the Nile Cruise we went on and can thoroughly recommend it).
Benidorm - just the pits.
New York in summer - searing heat and it smelt dreadful (all those industrial size bins at the back of food outlets stunk to high heaven) and the local people were so abrupt and unfriendly.
Miami - it felt quite threatening and on the taxi journey to our hotel saw some really deprived areas.
In defence of some other places mentioned on this thread - love Turkey (try Kalkan or Kas, gorgeous places), never been pick-pocketed on our numerous visits to Rome and have had lovely holidays in Portugal (Lisbon and Lagos). Just goes to show, we are all very different!

We had a family Christmas in Malta a few years ago.(2013).
It was overwhelmingly packed with millions of tourists (including us!), cars, traffic everywhere. I found it unbearable. Is it always that busy? The hotel was perfect though.

Nothing has changed Urmstongran, I drove through there at the weekend and it's awful!

Cap de Formentor. Goodness me! The drive there was petrifying! I think I would have been much better in our own car but it was in a hire car. Husband loved the drive grin.

Another vote for Rhyl. Grim

Casdon Tue 14-Sept-21 10:55:19

Another vote for Weston- super-Mare for me. There’s nothing super about it at all, and when I last went the shopping centre was the grottiest ever. The donkeys were nice though, to be fair.

Callistemon Tue 14-Sept-21 10:58:01

Barry Island

There's a good fish and chip shop! smile
And it is far superior to Barry Island but then neither of them are what I call seaside.

I didn't understand what heavy petting in the pool was until I went to the Tropicana in Weston super mare

GranEd Tue 14-Sept-21 11:09:36

Mogsmaw and Whatdayisit I had the misfortune to live and work in Northallerton for six months (the longest , and dreariest six months of my life!)
A very boring nothing sort of town with lots of unfriendly people - of course my view could have been coloured by having the landlady from hell. ?
Admittedly it was over sixty years ago and things might have changed but no way am I ever going back to find out even though I only live about 30 miles away from the place.
Very sorry ? to all the lovely people I’ve now offended.

The Amalfi Coast is stunningly beautiful. You can visit some gorgeous and fascinating places - Capri, Pompeii, Vesuvius, Ravello lots more. However the mountain roads are terrifying. I wouldn't go back because of that.

Josianne Tue 14-Sept-21 11:15:09

Talking of roads, our teenage daughter insisted we went to the Lord of the Rings site in NZ. It wasn't a proper road, it was just a track with sheer drops, with us in a hired vehicle. Never again, it's a wonder we're still alive!

Kate1949 Tue 14-Sept-21 11:19:06

Yes sheer drops in Amalfi too. We got the bus one day and it encountered another bus coming around the cliff. Neither would budge and there wasn't enough room to pass each other. Ours started to back up and we were sure we'd go over the edge. Obviously the drivers knew what they were doing but it was definitely white knuckle time!

Yes I would vote for Rhyl although it was 30 years ago I went there. Mcdonald's was the best restaurant in town.

LauraNorder Tue 14-Sept-21 11:28:54

No one should ever be sent to Rhyl even as punishment for the most heinous of crimes

Humbertbear Tue 14-Sept-21 11:38:42

Riga - It was soul-less, the restaurants closed at 9.00pm and the Xmas market was a few stalls on a street corner. The most excitement we had was spending the evening in the police station because my passport had been stolen.

LauraNorder Tue 14-Sept-21 11:39:57

Dafydd and Blodwen were making out in the back of the car. ‘Ooh Dafydd’ she groaned ‘kiss me where it smells’.
‘I’m not driving to Rhyl at this time of night’ he replied

Damdee Tue 14-Sept-21 11:43:20

Berry Pomeroy castle. It's haunted.

Beau1958 Tue 14-Sept-21 11:43:52

Goa. Lovely resort hotel but I just can’t get my head round all the filth and poverty around the hotel. We both got deli belly we ate in a restaurant outside the resort apparently the staff sleep on the floor of the restaurant and use the outside grounds as a toilet. Just couldn’t go back.

Any of the Canary Islands, Gibraltar, Egypt.
