If I put my decorations up in Nov I'd be sick of the sight I'd them by Christmas.
When I was a child most people put them up in the week or so before Christmas. By Christmas day everyone had reached a nice level of excitement, and the days after Christmas were spent visiting relatives, going to the pantomime and/or cinema and spending your book vouchers once the shops opened up. Then, on 6th January, the decorations came down and life went settled back to normal.
Nowadays there seems to be months of hype and preparation, people exhausted by Christmas week and a terrible sense of anti climax afterwards.
Times change, but I preferred the older style Christmas.
