Having seen and commented on the thread where people are commenting on things they regret buying I couldn’t resist commenting on the things I’m glad I bought.

Mandolin (in use almost every day)
Bread maker (ditto)
Yoghurt maker (weekly)
Electric waffle maker (I have two for when family visit)
Stick blender
Zester
Ginger grater (makes the job so much easier)
Stand mixer
Steam mop
Carpet washer
Dishwasher (how did I manage without for so long?)
Popcorn maker (not just for the children)
Maslin pan, jam funnel and thermometer

I realise there are few things that I’ve bought and have regretted. ?

An electric citrus squeezer, gets out every last drop of juice and is so easy for my arthritic hands.

Halogen oven, so useful for one or two and no need to wait for the oven to heat up.
Battery lawn mower.
Small plastic circle for opening jars - can't manage any of the others.
Soup maker.
Greenhouse.
Juicer.
GTech Vacuum cleaner.

I thought the first item. Mandolin was a musical instrument. I envied you that you use it a lot!

A gadget-mad friend of ours sliced off the top of his finger with a mandolin. We arrived for a weekend visit to find blood all over the kitchen floor and friends absent.

Friend was not impressed when the following day, dh took the blasted gadget and dropped it in the dustbin. ‘I paid £40 for that!’
However, he didn’t attempt to get it out again!

Soup maker! It seems I am not alone- it appears on lots of other peoples' lists!

My Remoska - In this age of energy prices going into the stratosphere it is so much cheaper to use than my oven. I love the results from it too.
My Kindle Fire
My Audible subscription
My Bamix stick blender and mini food processor
My digital piano - I can play with my headphones in and no-one else can hear me. Good for them and me.
My bluetooth ear buds. I can move around my flat and listen , uninterrupted to my e-books and my music at the sound level that suits my hearing without worrying about the neighbours.
My laptop. I use it many times a day and wonder how I lived without it.
Steam cleaner. So versatile for the cleaning requirements.
Last, but certainly not least - my washing machine.

Kenwood mixer, soup maker, Dyson stick vacuum, electric toothbrush, cordless mower and more recently a Kenwood electric can opener (arthritic hands). Don't know why I didn't buy the last item a lot sooner its great. The mower was because now divorced my ex gave away our mower as he doesn't have a need for it. I decided that I would treat myself to a cordless one and love it.

Le Creuset saucepans, casseroles and pottery
wooden lemon squeezer and long-handled wooden spoons
Jamie Oliver round deep chopping board
potato ricer
mouli cheesegrater
mandolin
Kenwood Chef, (apart from the useless large liquidiser )
my laptop
Dyson hoover
dishwasher and washing machine
upright freezer after years of disappearing into the chest freezer
microwave, plus fish steamer, bacon griller and vegetable steamers for use within;
garlic press
all the little hooks screwed into the shelves in the pantry (understairs cupboard) for hanging keys, shopping bags, tape measures, plastic bag collection, BBQ tools, brushes, torch;
long-handled upright dustpan and brush
I could go on.....

BlueBelleWould:

"An upright plastic wheelbarrow for dirty washing and moving heavy things about house."

I'd like that for the Tesco deliveries as it would be easier than my shopping trolleys for the driver to load , and useful otherwise too. Can possibly post a photo please?

Blossoming

I didn’t buy Mr. B but I’m very glad to have him. He is the most precious thing in my life.

I love your answer Blossoming. It’s just what I would have said! Cherish him, you are so lucky to have him. I lost my husband after 53 years together and I miss him every day.

My jar opener and tin lid ring puller gadget (see photo).

I bought one £160 from Aldi along with two batteries. A fault developed after two uses. No problem getting it replaced but same fault on the replacement. Took it back for refund. No problems. Bought a Bosch at twice the price as had given my electric one away. The Bosch is fantastic, Totally different beast. Easier to start, manoeuvre and the battery recharges in 15 mins. Definitely you get what you pay for.

This is a wonderful thread; there is so much gratitude flowing through these posts. I know they all mention items, but they note tools we have that help us make our homes, relationships, lives nicer.

Water softener, definitely the best thing we’ve bought since moving into our current house 8 years ago
Built in eye level oven, previous one was under a unit and difficult to clean as we got older
Halogen hob, heats up almost instantly and very easy to clean
Bissell floor cleaner, vacuums and cleans hard floors and rugs
Cordless vacuum cleaner
Chest freezer
Electric tin opener
Gadget that makes opening tops on jam, pickles etc easy
Slow cooker
Kindle
IPad
I didn’t buy them but my two apps for Internet banking are things I couldn’t do without
Again not something I bought but FaceBook messenger is something I use to send messages or phone friends and family

I didn’t realise that you could do a voice or FaceTime thing on messenger and nearly died one night when a voice in the bedroom said ‘hi, how are you’. Thankfully if was just the voice bit and I was fully dressed but ever since I make sure it’s clicked onto my daughter and not an internet chum just in case I press something by mistake….could have been very embarrassing….

Our new Miele vacuum cleaner which clears up cat hair!
My icecream machine - a separate entity not one with the bucket thing kept in the freezer. It wasn’t cheap but we love ice-cream ,so use it a lot.
I use my old Kenwood food processor all the time - it is left out on the worktop, on the advice of a friend.
iPad - my son gave it to me for looking after my granddaughter.
iPhone - how ever would I do without it?
Dishwasher
Washing machine
I do a lot of cake baking but was getting rather bored with round tins. I now have an assortment of square sandwich tins and square deep tins. A square Victoria sandwich is very elegant!

Small Slo cooker to make a small stew just for me. Vileda super mop. Have raved over them ever since I bought my first one years ago. Also keep one just for cleaning cobwebs from difficult to reach places. And very old ones kept for unblocking loos so they can then be ditched (thankfully haven’t had to do that often). Expandable hose. Nutribullet. Use it for smoothies and soups, especially useful now my teeth are crumbly and it’s a way of eating apples and nuts without losing yet another filling. My iPad. As others have said it’s practically glued to me and I fall asleep listening to it. Small plastic screw top beakers. Have just bought loads of them. Use them for so many things. Much as I hate them, cleaning wipes. I try to use them as little as possible but they get dirt off things that I thought I’d cleaned properly. Spin dryer. Use it to dry small items and saves me using the washing machine so often.

My best ever purchase has to be my Pressure King Pro (electric pressure cooker).

I bought my original one for £100 about 7yrs ago and used it that much (daily) that I wrote it or and replaced it about 3yrs ago (£70).

Far far better than a slow cooker, does exactly the same job in week under an hour instead of 8 or 9hrs.

I came in from the supermarket 45mins ago, threw meat, veggies, garlic, pulses, stock pot/cubes and water in the pot and my gorgeous beef ate is already waiting for me to dive in.

Harmonypuss Mon 27-Sept-21 16:49:20

Not 'wrote it or'..... should have said 'wore it out'

hicaz46 Mon 27-Sept-21 17:01:57

Glad I bought
Ice cream machine ‘cos I love ice cream
Slow cooker
A filleting knife
A sandwich maker
A new greenhouse.
A cordless Vax
Waste of time buys:
An air fryer
A rice cooker

My shopping trolley! I couldn't carry that much so couldn't live without it.

My computer. Has enabled me to research my family history to such an amazing degree and connect with other lovely researchers.

My smartphone allows unlimited texts and phone calls for £5 a month, who would have ever thought it possible. And I can make video calls all over the world on the phone or computer, who would have ever thought that possible 20 or more years ago.

Bazza Mon 27-Sept-21 17:12:26

Water softener
Cordless dyson
Global kitchen knives
Electric blanket
Induction hob, really surprised no one has mentioned this!
Dishwasher
Cordless lawn mower
Slow cooker
Ancient Miele washing machine
And many more things that would have made my mother’s life so very much easier.

foxie48 Mon 27-Sept-21 19:27:14

Bread maker, we haven't bought any bread for four years. OH has the job of keeping us supplied and he generally has it working overnight so I get up to the smell of fresh bread.
Slo-cooker, only use in the summer when the aga is off
Pressure cooker, home made soup made in a jiffy
Border terrier dog, on my third one and they have made every day full of fun and happiness, help to keep me fit too.
