Please try not to worry misadventure I have had two. I was offered sedation but refused, and had it without, it was very quick, when they put the tube on my mouth, they asked me to swallow, I did, and had no problems. They also gave me a throat spray which helped, tasted vile though. Good luck, you will be fine. I drove home afterwards.
I had mine without sedation, just the throat spray, it was fine. It also meant I could understand and remember the results discussed straight afterwards.
Mine was quick and painless without sedation. A bit of a strange feeling when you swallow the tube, but no spasms or retching. I think the stomach is inflated because I let out a huge burp like a pig afterwards. Off the couch and ready to go straightaway. Good luck.
I had mine without sedation, just the throat spray. As others have said it’s a quick procedure.I found it uncomfortable rather than painful.Just as I thought this is getting a bit much it was over.Lots of burping afterwards!
I had my endoscopy without sedation as I had no one to bring me home and stay with me afterwards.
The nurses are very experienced. It was a quick procedure. I had the throat spray. I did gag a little but it was uncomfortable rather than painful. I kept reminding myself that it would quickly be over.
Afterwards I had a very husky sexy voice for a few hours, like that actress Fenella Fielding back in the day
If it is not until tomorrow, then you should be able to have sedation, unless medical implications as to why not. Throat spray to numb back of throat, friend had it done without sedation, was uncomfortable, not painful. Quite groggy after sedation, and need someone to take you home as can’t drive for 24 hrs after. Sure you’ll be ok , will have plenty of support from the staff I’m sure. Hope all goes well. If you can’t tolerate it they will give you some sedation.
I think I've been fitted in amongst the brave souls who have opted for no sedation. I'm not sure why, but my pleas have fallen on deaf ears, and it does need to be done, so...
Bluesky I have had a sedated one before, and it was fine. I just remember saying "oooh, this sedation seems strong!" and then I woke up and it was done. Much more civilised.
I have had one and am due another soon. I was beside myself but it wasn't nearly as bad as I have imagined. I was asked on the day whether I wanted the throat spray or sedation, so I would ask. Sedation is the choice for me. Good luck. I will be thinking of you.
I would not have it without sedation myself. The procedure was unable to be completed on the unsedated patient before me and she left having to arrange another appointment.
