Good morning all from an Algarve with a lovely blue sky this morning. It’s been fairly warm but cloudy for the last week or so.
Hello ? to Absent, you crept in very quietly there.? I hope you are well.

grandMattie, Philip’s funeral sounds all that a funeral should be. Full of happy memories as well as the sad ones, I’m glad that you are also seeing your family today.
Harrigran your surgery’s attitude is dreadful.

I haven’t read page two yet but I will catch up with you all later.

Forestflame Fri 08-Oct-21 11:38:30

Harrigran
I am shocked by what the Nurse said about the Hospice being closed
A friend of mine had a similar issue when her DF was terminally ill and in great pain. When my friend spoke to a Doctor, he got him admitted to a hospice very quickly. It turned out that the Nurse (who was from a well known cancer charity). Didn't want him going into a hospice as it would mean he would no longer be 'on their books'. Please speak to your Dr or even your local hospice directly.

Greyduster I dreamt I was filling those long donuts with the yellow custard stuff to take to a prison…goodness knows, but better than polar bears ?

Beechnut Fri 08-Oct-21 10:41:50

No I haven’t Greyduster ??

Jaxjacky Fri 08-Oct-21 10:37:53

harrigran I too am disgusted at the crass and thoughtless way you are both being treated, I imagine you are exhausted and despairing with little time or energy to complain.
Is there a family member who can raise merry hell with the Practice Manager/local health authority/MP or whoever? If I could, I would, it’s infuriating me. xx

aggie Fri 08-Oct-21 10:37:14

Good morning everyone,
Hugs and prayers to all especially those with such sadness this week

hollysteers Fri 08-Oct-21 10:36:41

Good morning Mick and all from a mild and patches of blue sky Lancashire coast.
I’m glad yesterday went as well as it could grandMattie and it sounds as if it was perfectly done, you must be relieved and hope you can now have a rest and some peace.
Oh harrigran at a time when you need so much consideration, I’m so sorry you have these difficult days.

Mapleleaf Fri 08-Oct-21 10:27:10

Good morning all,

Another lovely day, warm with sunshine - a bit of an Indian summer, I think, before the cold comes back with a vengeance. It’s a pleasure to watch the bees being busy around the flowers which seem to glow at this time of year.

GrandMattie it sounds as if you were all able to draw a great deal of comfort from Philip’s funeral yesterday. These occasions are never easy, but I am pleased that it went as well as it possibly could for you all. ?

Harrigran the treatment and the insensitivity shown by the health professionals you are dealing with is appalling. You are going through so much, but could you or someone within your family lodge an official complaint? They have shown a complete lack of compassion in the way they have treated you. It’s a shame that you can’t change practices.

Take care one and all.

Dogsmakemesmile Fri 08-Oct-21 10:22:18

grandMattie thank you for sharing some of your son's funeral with us. My thoughts are with you.
Harri what a dreadful day you had on top of what must be the hardest of times. You and your husband deserve far , far better.
It seems frivolous to write anything else. But I remember grandMattie urging us to carpe diem so I will carpe diem. Love to all.

EkwaNimitee Fri 08-Oct-21 10:20:23

Good morning Mick and all from a bright Carlisle where we may or may not have a shower or two.
I've pottered about doing small housework jobs but now I must face up to some boring admin and more, probably fruitless, chasing of a potential gardener/landscaper.
Yesterday I got an email delaying to January a piece of furniture due next week.! I was on the point of cancelling as I'm not waiting more months for necessary pieces but in the end ordered from another range and that will come next week. It's not the firms fault but probably due to the problems with shipping from abroad.
I'm glad your sons funeral went so well grandMattie and it must have been consoling to you all.
harrigran is there no end to the insensitivity you and your DH are suffering? In my thoughts every day.

Susan56 Fri 08-Oct-21 10:15:36

Good morning from North Wales. We were up at the crack of dawn to look after the hurricane and take Miss M to school.

grandmattie, it sounds like yesterday was the perfect celebration of Philip’s life. How lovely that your DGS felt able to carry his dear dad’s coffin. You must be so proud of him and also of your DGD,DH and DD.

Wishing Iris a happy belated birthday lunch.

A sad day for you maw?

harri, I am another appalled at the treatment you and your DH are receiving/not receiving. So glad you have family support?

Well, today is going to be a challenge. We got here and Miss M was still in her pyjamas as she was waiting for me to get her ready. It’s forest school today and at five years old she was like a teenager going out with friends deciding what to wear!We skidded into the playground just in time.

Got home from the school run and went to get clothes for H only to find he had been very sick all over his parents bed, bedroom floor and iPads??Bedding stripped and in the washing machine when we realised their machine was not straightforward.Downloaded the manual, the bedding is washing, the mattress is cleaned and drying and I am ready for a nap!!

H is now ‘playing’ the piano for us?

Wishing everyone the best day possible???

Gwenisgreat1 Fri 08-Oct-21 10:10:33

Good Morning all from bright Harrogate
My DD has just been to take DH and dog for a walk, so for this moment - peace!!
I have friends coming round this afternoon, one who is wheat intolerant so I shall have to make some flapjacks! I have been aghast at how difficult it is to get dried fruit around here!!nI suppose I shall have to do my Christmas baking a bit later when the urge has died down
It does sound like the perfect funeral - if there can be such a thing, GrandMattie a fine way to remember your son.
The Brompton Oratory brings back memories for me, outside it is such a fine building, never been in. In the 60's I live in South Ken and often walked past it - sad to have to go there for a funeral, though.
Is there an alternative surgery you can go to Harrigran? One where they employ people who care? You are treated atrociously, which cannot help what you are going through!
Didn't realise you were leaving us LauraNorder sorry to see you go - are you my last connection with North Wales?
Have the best day you can, folks.

Nannytopsy Fri 08-Oct-21 09:59:48

Good morning Mick and all his followers. I hope you enjoy your weekend Mick.
It’s very misty here in Suffolk but not at all cold. Some gardening and a Click & Collect are all we have planned today.
It sounds as if Phillip’s was a good funeral, if you know what I mean, leaving good memories.
I have sung the Faure Requiem twice too, Blue and I think it is my favourite. Chin up Maw - it’s going to be a sad day.
I hope the day is kind to everyone.

Kim19 Fri 08-Oct-21 09:47:47

Morning all! I read all these previous entries of mixed sadness and gladness and I empathise hugely. What a warm and lovely thread this is. Particular thanks to Urm at this junction for mention of clip and climb. Had never heard of it but am always on the lookout for new and exciting outings for the GC. I'm going to the 'big city' on Monday to check out a centre I've just found five minutes ago. Yessss! I think the love!y pair are coming to stay with me sometime during half term so that could be a real treat. Today I've promised myself a vigorous riverside walk. Been slacking lately. Very happy yesterday, when I opened the mansion front door, to be physically bombarded by really warm air. My idea of bliss (and surprise). Being the total miser, I quickly opened the back door and let the free warmth quickly invade the whole house. Oh yes. I look forward to more of the same today and will discard the extra lair I donned recently. I wish you all at least one highspot in your days.

glammagran Fri 08-Oct-21 09:05:39

I meant to the not tube. And we are babysitting DGS not DGD.

glammagran Fri 08-Oct-21 09:04:20

I haven't been on for a few days so missed that GrandMattie’s son Philip’s funeral was yesterday. It must have been an incredibly difficult day but his sendoff sounds like it couldn’t have gone better given the circumstances. All the very best to tube family.

We are off to babysit my DGD aged 5 months shortly for a couple of hours so DD and DGD can spend some time together on their own. I’m dreading it slightly as he has proved to be quite a difficult baby. He’s been wearing 6-12 month clothes for a while and was solely breastfed - until yesterday - when he saw a paediatrician and allergist as it’s very apparent there has been some improvement since his mum cut out dairy but he was still waking 12 times a night (they bought a very pricey sleep monitor). She took one look and said he needed extra food straight away which may explain why he wakes so often. He’d been trying to grab food out of people’s hands but DD was adamant no food until 6 months. He’s very strong and can walk in a baby walker and sat up at 4 months but is quite cranky.

Flu jabs this afternoon.

brook2704 Fri 08-Oct-21 08:54:33

I didn’t realise LauraNorder had decided to leave Gransnet. I’ll miss her and all our other missing posters
Sounds like you’ll have a lovely afternoon Urms there’s a Clip and Climb in Cambridge and my two DGS love it too!

Gelisajams Fri 08-Oct-21 08:52:05

Good morning a warm cloudy Morecambe Bay.
Glad the funeral went better than you feared gMattie be gentle with yourself these coming days.
Harrigan I’m another appalled at the insensitivity of your ‘caring’ health professionals. You definitely deserve better.
I was saddened to to read Laura’s goodbye post last night. So many old regulars no longer posting.
I’m off up the motorway to meet a friend leaving DH to clean and tidy the house ahead of 5 year old DGD coming to stay for the weekend. I don’t know why we clean up before she comes as the place will be a bomb site within half an hour. I’m hoping she doesn’t play her parents up too much as they have a spa weekend planned for DiLs birthday.
DH’s appointment with the physio went quite well other than he’s been told his problem is wear and tear and there’s nothing to be done. It transpired he was seen so quickly as they wanted to check his cancer hadn’t spread. Thankfully that’s not the case!
Take care everyone and stay safe ?

Greyduster Fri 08-Oct-21 08:48:45

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from a sunny South Yorkshire. Where has this week gone? I had a night of bad dreams. Have you ever tried to poke a polar bear’s eye out while it was trying to eat you, and then forgotten where you live? We have a quiet day today. DH has his covid booster jab this morning and then later we will go shopping if he’s ok. Fish and chips for tea.
grandmattie you all did Philip proud! Be kind to yourself today?.
Harri {{hugs}}.
Have the best day you can folks.

NannyJan53 Fri 08-Oct-21 08:47:27

Good morning from a very warm but cloudy Black Country,

Had a lovely walk yesterday along our local canal. A lady on our towns FB page had suggested a bi-weekly walk. 6 of us turn up and it was good to chat to new people.

The Roofer turned to up to fix the garage roof, as it leaked as soon as it rained when he had renewed it. Fingers crossed it works when we have the next lot of rain.

grandMattie such a fitting tribute for your dear Philip. I wish you strength for the coming days. flowers

harrigran I am totally appalled at the insensitive way you are being treated.

Sad to read yesterday that LauraNorder has left GN. I really enjoyed her contribution here sad

Oh dear Gingster sounds like you will have a strained day on Sunday flowers

Thinking of our missing posters. Wishing you all a good Friday.

Good morning everyone from an overcast ☁ Northampton, but we are due sunshine from lunchtime onwards.

Yesterday I returned to my weekly ballet classes for the first time since March last year, the first lockdown. It felt good to be back and see familiar and new faces. I love the discipline of barre work, but am still at sea and just as lost as I always was when putting a sequence of steps together to make a complete dance! Still, no-one minds, as everyone else is concentrating so hard on their own steps. It felt like a really good workout. I went for coffee afterwards and sat outside the cafe watching the world go by.

This morning I p!an on swapping my summer and winter wardrobes; time to put the sundresses and shorts away!

This afternoon I shall go to the post office to return a gilet that was too big for me, then shall catch the bus to go and have a mooch around M&S food, Sainsbury's etc. A curry to make for dinner tonight, then watch some catch-up tv.

Glad to hear that things went well yesterday, grandMattie, and hope you have a lovely lunch today for Iris's birthday.

And a sad day for you Maw, hope you can lose yourself in the glorious music of the Faure Requiem; happy memories of singing in it twice, at school then at college.

Take care and stay safe everyone.

Good morning Auntyflo and all x

Stilllearning Fri 08-Oct-21 08:37:49

Morning everyone, no time to read posts yet except grandMattie’S so glad it was such an uplifting day for her.

Will get back later and meanwhile wish all a good day ???

Gingster Fri 08-Oct-21 08:33:13

Good morning all and it’s a grey day here in Essex.

The send off for your precious boy sounds perfect, GrandMattie ?

DH is planning to go fishing today so I will have peace to get ON with some cooking and baking. We have nephew and his wife coming on Sunday for a golf lesson from DH. They will stay for lunch and we will be joined by my two brothers and one SIL. The two ladies don’t get on, so I will be piggy in the middle, keeping the day jolly and smiley. ?. ?.

Keep on, keeping on! ????

Urmstongran Fri 08-Oct-21 08:31:27

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where its dry and the sun’s up too, which is nice.

The station across the road has had a wonderful tidy up - rubbish was bagged, weeds were pulled by a Scout troop & their Leaders wearing hi-viz jackets yesterday evening from 7 - 8:30pm. There we’re about 20 children and they worked so hard. It looks super this morning!

We are picking the Boy Wonder & L’il Miss up from school today and taking them to the climbing wall at the leisure centre at 4pm and it’s for an hour’s session. It’s called ‘Clip and Climb’ because the children are put into harnesses - they are SO excited to be going, thanks to mummy booking it for them! I Googled it last night. It’s the brainchild of two NZ guys and apparently these atriums are being set up all over this country now. Perhaps there’s one in your area?
?‍♀️

Glad to hear your Philip’s funeral went better than you feared grandMattie. Look after yourself now with some TLC.

? for you Maw today will be a fitting tribute to your friend but it will be emotionally draining too.

harri I cannot believe the insensitive (non) treatment you are experiencing at the hands of these doctors from your surgery. It beggars belief how cavalier their attitude is. Do they think you and your husband have no feelings?Receptionists often come under fire but these doctors have taken hurtful comments to a whole new level.

Enjoy Friday all who can. x
Missing LauraNorder already. ?
