Good Morning Friday 8th October 2021

Good evening from New Zealand where it has been a warm and sunny day. I am looking forward to the weekend too.

Good morning from a dark E Kent. It’s still chilly here – what “heatwave”?

Not a very good night as my mind was full of my precious boy.

May I thank the very many of you who sent us your love and support yesterday. It was very generous of you and was greatly appreciated by the family and me.

Philip got a lovely send-off full of laughter and tears. Just the sort of thing he would have liked, I think. He ended up leaving the church to the theme tune of “Star Wars” as he was a great fan, but more especially because he was born on May 4th! “May the Force be with you”. The tributes were full of affection and the church, of people who had known him and been touched by him – from primary school onwards. It was really amazing.

His boy carried his dad both in and out of the church; DGD1 did a lovely reading for her uncle, DD did the commendation and committal; DH read DS1’s tribute to his baby brother, his best friend and someone from his shift also had tributes to him…

The “after-party”, as DGS called it, went really well and was full of laughter and reminiscences. All in all, a much better day than I had expected especially as I loathe big gatherings.

The great load of sadness I have been carrying for the last month seems to have lifted somewhat.

Today we’re having a small late birthday lunch for Iris. DGS is coming too, with his mum – a lovely little family gathering; DS1 will be joining us on Skype.

Good morning, everyone: it’s a still morning after an unusually mild night here on the edge of Dartmoor, where I’m spending a couple of nights in my holiday home.

Yesterday, grandMattie and her family were never far from my thoughts. I hope and pray for her to be given the strength to face the days ahead.

Greetings from Worcestershire. Not sure what the weather is doing, its dark outside but rather warm for the time of year. Not much planned for the next few days apart from volunteering at our local museum on Saturday.

Good morning all -Grandmattie , I am so glad yesterday gave you and all his family and friends the opportunity to say that final farewell in an uplifting and memorable way. I know we are all different but for me it is important to round off a life with a fitting tribute especially for those who left behind who remember and mourn.
I am doing something similar today at a memorial service at the Brompton Oratory for a friend from our London days who died suddenly right at the beginning of the pandemic. She was one of the babysitting circle four of us young mums formed in 1976. It’s to be a full Requiem Mass with a choir she supported singing Faure’s Requiem. I am dreading the emotions it will stir up, church music gets me every time at the best of times, but I have to be there and Paw would have wanted it too.
So it’s an early train to London and an emotional day ahead of me.

I’m off to another town to do my weekly shop. I shall go early so I can have a good browse and be back in time to have a catch on FaceTime with my friend later this morning. Afterwards I really must find something to do as I’ve been lazy the last few days. Too many days like that make me feel down.

Good morning from Essex by the sea.
I'm so pleased your day went well Grandmattie, a fitting send off for your Philip.
DH and I spent the morning watching the preparations for Stage 4 of the Women's Cycle Race and then watched the start. 60 seconds and they were gone !! We did see ourselves on the local news last night.
DH will be spending the day on his boat and I will be pottering indoors and probably doing some cross stitch.

Yesterday was not a good day, nurse did not come until late afternoon, as he was leaving I mentioned hospice care and he said " it is closed ". The GP surgery rang DH's phone and told him his DNR forms were ready if he would like to pop down and collect them, insensitive or what ?

Good morning all from an overcast, but not cold, S Hants. I thought of you and your family yesterday grandMattite, your Phillips final journey sounds entirely right, I’ll still be thinking of you today and the days ahead, take care of yourself.
I was going to pull out the cosmos yesterday, but it’s still glorious, with bees in attendance, so it can stay a while. I had my flu jab and feel fine. MrJ has a tough job on, big tiles, 800 x 800 and a sore back, so a fidgety night.
Imogen has her brain scan today, results will, I assume, go to the consultant for appointment on the 21st.

Good morning all. It’s dry,bright and very mild in East Yorkshire.

It sounds like Philip had a wonderful send off Grandmattie full of love and emotion.

I had a good day shopping in Leeds where my purse took a hit. As we don’t have M&S here I stocked up on winter tights and socks. I also bought a few bits in the L Occitane shop. They had some gift sets in with lovely packaging that I couldn’t resist buying for Christmas presents and I had to treat myself to a new shower gel which I will try this morning. When I arrived back on the train it was lovely to see DH and dgs sitting on the station waiting for me. Dgs had collected lots of conkers that he announced was going to share with his friends! Soft Gran that I am I’d bought him a top that had Spider Man on the front. He loved it and then said Could you get me one with Superman on it too ?
I have a lot of things to catch up with today housework,food shop, phone calls and dgs after school.

Harrigran I am appalled by the treatment you are receiving from health professionals etc over DH care. You deserve better.

Rather overcast at the moment in N. Bucks.
Busy day for me, I think I had better make some lists or I will forget something.
FaceTime with DGS2 yesterday was a request for a Christmas cushion and stocking for his baby brother , so materials for those will go on the list. He is itching to be back at school after being in quarantine. Still no signs of Covid in the rest of the family.
Thinking of all with troubles and cares. I hope you all find a smile in your day.

Good morning from foggy Colchester. It's warm though with 19° forecast.
I have washing to put out when the fog lifts.
We have made good progress on decorating the kitchen diner and will do a bit more today.

Good Morning from the Scottish Borders. 15 degrees but we will get some rain.

Philip's funeral sounds as though it was a fitting occasion grandMattie and you will have been buoyed by all that love. I watched a low flying heron over the Tyne in East Lothian yesterday and it made me think of flamingos and of you.

I'm taking a trolley load of apples to the carbon challenge centre for pressing this morning. The shop was started to help us be aware of the climate crisis so has all kinds of initiatives such as a tool library, a bike repair place and an upcycling room.The public have donated sewing machines and masses of fabric and the classes are fully booked. Donations of volunteer time are harder to come by!

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where its dry and the sun’s up too, which is nice.

The station across the road has had a wonderful tidy up - rubbish was bagged, weeds were pulled by a Scout troop & their Leaders wearing hi-viz jackets yesterday evening from 7 - 8:30pm. There we’re about 20 children and they worked so hard. It looks super this morning!

We are picking the Boy Wonder & L’il Miss up from school today and taking them to the climbing wall at the leisure centre at 4pm and it’s for an hour’s session. It’s called ‘Clip and Climb’ because the children are put into harnesses - they are SO excited to be going, thanks to mummy booking it for them! I Googled it last night. It’s the brainchild of two NZ guys and apparently these atriums are being set up all over this country now. Perhaps there’s one in your area?

Glad to hear your Philip’s funeral went better than you feared grandMattie. Look after yourself now with some TLC.

? for you Maw today will be a fitting tribute to your friend but it will be emotionally draining too.

harri I cannot believe the insensitive (non) treatment you are experiencing at the hands of these doctors from your surgery. It beggars belief how cavalier their attitude is. Do they think you and your husband have no feelings?Receptionists often come under fire but these doctors have taken hurtful comments to a whole new level.

DH is planning to go fishing today so I will have peace to get ON with some cooking and baking. We have nephew and his wife coming on Sunday for a golf lesson from DH. They will stay for lunch and we will be joined by my two brothers and one SIL. The two ladies don’t get on, so I will be piggy in the middle, keeping the day jolly and smiley. ?. ?.
