60th birthday party and 'modern' music

A lot of 60s music makes me cringe. Besides many of them being mysogenistic or downright sleazy. If you are 60 (lucky you!) you will have left school in the late 70s/early 80s. That is the time we look back to for Songs connected to happy memories.

Then there are the years when we were at home with small children, with the radio on all day - many great classics from that period.

If there are songs from recent years that you like, add them by all means, especially if you have younger guests. Have a lovely party!

I will soon be 60 as well! late 60's, 70's and early 80's music for me! Of course we were teens in the 70's, and out at clubs in early 80's. Disco is not dead at my house!

I was at a wedding a few years ago when Neil Diamond's Sweet Caroline came on. All of the younger generation knew all the words and started a circle dance holding hands. It was fun to see the 'kids' singing along to their parent's music.

Happy birthday and have fun.

60th birthday. It’s got to be 60s music. Beatles, Stones, Marvin Gaye, Bee Gees, Bowie, Kinks, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors.
It’s 1966 and I’m 16 and was so into soul music. One of my DGD loves it.
Have a great party Artaylar

Happy Birthday Artaylar. I can just about remember my 60th - only a small party, as I had just moved into this house and things were pretty chaotic, not that 21 years have made much difference! I'm sure you will resolve the issue of the music - to your own liking!

I’m over 70 and whilst I wouldn’t be playing rap, techno or hip hop I would most certainly be playing upbeat favourites from the last 5 years or so.

Very happy birthday Artaylar.
Don’t get down with the kids… you might struggle to get up again, knees, back, etc.
Good dance music with a great beat crosses the generations.
Bop the night away, have fun ?

As someone shortly to turn 60 I would not welcome modern music on the play list. Anymore than I would have expected my parents, at that age, to have been playing the BeeGees, or David Essex or Fleetwood Mac at their parties.

Happy birthday (which big one?) ???

As for the play list - choose your favourites, it's your celebration.
Or you could go through the decades since you were born, a favourite couple of songs from each decade, then your favourites.

I went to an 18th Birthday party on Saturday and they were playing ABBA!

I hit the big one this weekend and am having a little get together to celebrate.

I've put a play list together and a younger relative asked me if there was any modern music on it. 'Oh Yes' says I - Happy Mondays and Stone Roses. She looked a tad puzzled at this and it was only when I checked when I got back home that both tracks are from the late 80's......errrr blush
