Going bald..

My hair is thinning terribly, so much so that there are visible bald patches and partings all through it.

The question is, do I keep trying ever more inventive ways to cover it up, or bite the bullet and have it cut short?
My head is actually sore and lumpy, so it's going to look awful, but my hair also gets greasy within an hour or two of washing it, and my head is itchy.

Shall I hold out a bit longer in the Hope it may grow back?

What would you do?

I know there are fibres you can buy on Amazon. Not sure if they have the colour match if you wanted tlo try MissA

MissAdventure Tue 26-Oct-21 23:02:09

I have the fibres.
They're not bad, actually.
They just get swamped in grease after a few hours, though.
The texture of my hair feels all wrong somehow.
So dry at the ends; all matted, but then I don't like to try and get the tangles out because of losing more hair.

As we all know when you are loosing your hair you look a lot at other women’s hair, particularly on tv.
What I have noticed is that there are an awful lot of young women who I can see have very thin hair. Think back to our mothers and grandmothers hair?
I think there’s something going on here but I’m nowhere near clever enough to know what it is.
I know this sounds bizarre but I remember Dr Miriam Stoppard stating many years ago that hair shampoo was harsher than carpet shampoo ?
Is it the pill? Is it something in the water? Who knows, but somethings going on.

Miss A, strangely enough, when I had Alopaecia Areata, I was jealous of the blonde haired women. I thought the bald patches wouldn’t be so noticeable..

MerylStreep Tue 26-Oct-21 23:11:29

MissAdventure
I have to say this is sounding alarming.
I don’t know if it’s something you would be interested in but my daughter went to an allergy clinic in Westcliff.
Just trying to think of anything ?

MissAdventure Tue 26-Oct-21 23:12:23

I have heard about tension alopecia, caused by having your hair tied up in a ponytail.
Also by wearing hair extensions.
I always assume that is the cause of younger womens problems.
In fact, I first thought my own loss was caused by wearing my hair up for work.

Kate1949 Tue 26-Oct-21 23:13:37

When I first went to my hair system clinic 13 years ago, it was mainly men clients. Now there are a lot of women.
Stress? I don't know.

If you can't bear the wig due to heat or soreness maybe you could try and get creative with scarves, turban-style.

I know you've had many blood tests for your health issues and are on Vitamin D, but could you find the strength to get a referral specifically for the hair loss. I'm sorry you're feeling so rough.

MissAdventure Tue 26-Oct-21 23:16:46

Meryl my health is quite alarming at the moment, so I am convinced that is the reason.
Don't panic! smile

Kate1949 Tue 26-Oct-21 23:16:56

I've never worm my hair up or had extensions. My sisters and brother have great hair. My mother however had hair loss. So I'm the lucky one then.

Sweetpeasue Tue 26-Oct-21 23:18:35

Strangely, I tuned into a programme at 10 pm called The Hair Loss Clinic. There was a British Dr treating various conditions and one lady had patches of hair loss and it started after she got Sepsis 6 months earlier. I believe there's every reason that the hair will come back. Yours could be related to your illness MissA.

Sweetpeasue Tue 26-Oct-21 23:19:47

Sorry, just seen your latest message MissA

MissAdventure Tue 26-Oct-21 23:22:27

I've always had fine hair, dead straight, and never use any heated things on it.
Don't even own a hairdryer and use nothing else.
Just wash and go.
Except now it's my hair that's going.

Sweetpeasue Tue 26-Oct-21 23:24:57

Kate1949 Have 2 sisters. One has hair loss like my own, the other only natural thinning. My father went bald at 30.. I have one son who has gone bald at front and has just gone 40. Ours is hereditary from my father's line. Mum was OK.

Sweetpeasue Tue 26-Oct-21 23:26:25

You have a lovely sense of humour MissA . ?

MissElly Tue 26-Oct-21 23:27:44

Have you considered going to a Trichologist at a dedicated hair loss clinic? I am sure that at the very least they could help with your sore scalp. I really do feel for you. Feeling ill is bad enough without the added stress of feeling that you don’t look good and hair is such a big part of our identity. I have ridiculously fine hair which is also getting worse with age. Really hope you get sorted ??

MissAdventure Tue 26-Oct-21 23:30:28

The longer bits of my hair are a pretty colour, like a whitish ash blonde, but it's so flossy.
I was very tempted to take the scissors to it the other day and chop the lot off.
Instead, I scurf it back; even what's left of my fringe, and tie it in a loose ponytail.
Then I can see lines of bald head shining through.

MissAdventure Tue 26-Oct-21 23:31:58

Sweetpeasue

You have a lovely sense of humour MissA . ?

It's being sorely tested these days!
Thank you though.
smile

Kate1949 Tue 26-Oct-21 23:39:16

There's no logic to it Sweetpeasue. I have seen trichologists, dermatologists, GPs, Regaine. On the recommendations of friends and the Dr Google I have massaged my scalp day and night, rubbed raw onion into my scalp, taken Vitamin D, Multi vitamins, Zinc, cherry juice, cider vinegar, trawled around hairdressers, hair loss clinics (until I found my present one) you name it I've tried it and yet here I am with no hair.

Sweetpeasue Tue 26-Oct-21 23:43:26

I know where you're coming from. There is so much rubbish out there. Whoever comes up with the solution will be a very wealthy person.
Seen the Lucinda Ellery systems and they're very natural looking. Believe Sarah Vine, Gove's wife has it.

MissAdventure Tue 26-Oct-21 23:43:30

Kate do you still feel that you have no hair, despite how good the hair system is?
Does that feeling remain?

Kate1949 Tue 26-Oct-21 23:46:45

Well MissA that's a good question. I know I look good. Please don't take that as conceited, I'm SO far from that. People tell me I look great, don't look my age etc which, on the one hand is lovely but on the other I feel like a fraud. Does that make sense?

MissAdventure Tue 26-Oct-21 23:48:59

Thank you "MissElly*.
I'm pretty sure that a hair referral would result in them saying that my hairloss is due to being under the weather.
It's a symptom, I think.

MissAdventure Tue 26-Oct-21 23:51:38

You do look great, Kate.
You posted a photo once to show the hair system, and it is amazingly natural and healthy looking.
But yes, I get what you're saying about the "fraud" thing.

Kate1949 Tue 26-Oct-21 23:53:36

Thank you MissA . It's all very difficult isn't it? confused
