Going bald..

My hair is thinning terribly, so much so that there are visible bald patches and partings all through it.

The question is, do I keep trying ever more inventive ways to cover it up, or bite the bullet and have it cut short?
My head is actually sore and lumpy, so it's going to look awful, but my hair also gets greasy within an hour or two of washing it, and my head is itchy.

Shall I hold out a bit longer in the Hope it may grow back?

What would you do?

Yes, it is.
There really isn't any substitute for your own hair, I think, at least in our minds.

I can really recommend this closed Facebook group: Hair Loss Support & Advice Group.

They are very friendly and helpful.

Thank you.
I don't use Facebook, but it may help others.

Thankyou Sparklefizz and everyone for sharing this very difficult problem. It does help I think. It's still a very much taboo subject I feel.

You're right Sweetpeasue, it is a taboo subject and it shouldn't be! Why should we be ashamed of thinning hair..... but somehow we are. It helps to know we're not alone.

Well you've got a lot more hair than me MissA

MissAdventure Wed 27-Oct-21 11:43:42

And I've "pouffed" it up a bit to hide the baldness.
I think it's safe to say it didnt work. wink

That was a while back, Kate.
I have less now.
That one was taken when I first thought..... "hang on, I think there's a problem".
I do still have hair though, not enough to do much with, not so little that I want to shave the last bits.

I’ve always tied my hair up. At one time I used those scrunchie things. Then covered elastic bands. That got smaller and smaller. I’m now on the size that people use on toddlers hair! When I had my passport photo done I found a spray of something called Bouffe that I used years ago. It really thickened my hair and I resolved to buy some more and continue to use it. You can guess what happened next. No longer available.

Dry shampoo is pretty good, I would say, and one of the cheapest options.
Baby powder too, at a push.
