The image of the royal family

Surely those in the 'last chapter' have as much right to live it to the full as anyone else. This is an incredibly ageist thread.
You obviously misunderstood my post M0nica if you thought that I was in any way saying that women in the "final chapter" (reference to book) have less right to live life to the full. They can actually make the most of these years in a way that younger women find more difficult.
I was talking about how the RF is statistically speaking top heavy in terms of age because The Queen herself is undeniably very old.

I agree MOnica she'll step down if she wants too or she'll carry on until her death.

After a lifetime of service she deserves the right to make that decision for herself.

How old, how effective, how active you are depends entirely on yourself. We have neighbours the same age as us (late 70s), they were older, more ineffective, and inactive than we are now, when we moved here 25 years ago.

I think the Queen is aware that her natural successor and his spouse will not necessarily go down well with the general public and is simply trying to defer the evil day.

I don't think the Queen will ever abdicate but I've thought for years she could sit back and give Charles more responsibility, it could be that she is quite possessive of her position.
I've never understood people who want to by-pass Charles and hand the throne to William, the monarchy isn't like the
X-Factor where the public can vote for their favourite.

Judi Dench doesn't change her style at all either - shopping with a friend in Bath many years ago we saw clothes in a rather expensive shop and she said 'they're Judi Dench clothes, ok if you're at least 5'7" and slim".

Neither HM nor Dame Judi are tall and slim. However, I do like the way JD dresses for best.

But a figurehead, which is what the queen mostly is, does not really have an opportunity to 'contribute' anything, wise or otherwise.
And when the queen could have 'contributed' last year by challenging the proroguing of parliament she did not do so. I lost respect for her in the role then.

I see what you mean about those at the top being aged Bluebellwould and the image that exudes. The TV doctor Rosemary Leonard has written a book about The Seven Stages of Woman, and both The Queen and Camilla are in the final 75+ chapter group!

Angela Kelly is the Queen's resident dressmaker. She has written a book called "The Other Side of the Coin" if anyone is interested. I got it for a £1 on a kindle daily deal. Don't pay a lot for this book - very lightweight and we learn nothing new about the Queen but nice to read if you like textiles and tailoring.

I think she'd look faintly ridiculous in the latest fashions, showing a bare midriff.

It might jazz up her image if she had tattoo slugs instead of eyebrows and a few piercings! Ripped jeans that show her knickers when she leans forward to cut ribbons or a micro mini skirt!

I think it is her royal duties that keep her going.

No I didn’t mean in a fashion sense as I think that they all dress wonderfully and appropriately. I meant image as in they are all aged. I’m obviously not including Catherine and William in this. With Harry and Andrew gone the balance of the RF is leaning towards the elderly members, there is a deficit of younger members. I was wondering if that would alienate the younger in society.

I feel I can cope with all sorts of things but know in reality I shouldn’t I don’t care what they do in other countries or what they think of us she is holding onto control that should have been handed over long long ago That doesn’t make me anti royalty it’s just an obvious comment
